First UU Bulky Offense RMT

Hi UU RMT, this is my first time joining such an esteemed group of people and I’m anxious and excited about the opportunity. This was my first UU team and while it was nowhere near top 100 it did do consistently for me, about 7 or so wins per loss. I peaked at a slightly below average 1710 Glicko with a 105-60 ratio before I switched over to my much more risky dare I even say gimmicky Venomoth team which lost easily to critical hits or accuracy misses. I did pretty poorly in the beginning, losing 2 matches at the start and ending with a 6-5 win and loss for the day but I eventually grabbed on to the unique aspects of the tier. Anyways I’ll describe my team.

Meloetta

This Pokemon was my first choice. There are a few reasons why I picked her, the premier being that she was my main reason for playing UU lol. The current event and her role in the anime and as the Showdown’s mascot really gained my love and as a musician so did her musical themes. I had used a Latias before that amazed me in OU and so using her as a calm mind tank also appealed to me. I hated to see that she was used so little in UU.

CM Sweeper/Tank

Melody (Meloetta) @ Leftovers
Trait: Serene Grace
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Calm Mind
- Psyshock
- Shadow Ball
- Thunderbolt
Pretty standard Calm Mind set, Psyshock to beat fellow calm minders like Raikou or Snorlax. This beauty is great at setting up on common pokes like Cofagrigus, Chandelure, Slowbro, and water types like Blastoise who usually attempt to scald rather than phaze before eating a thunderbolt. Our little stick Miku also outspeeds Sharpedo and Yanmega without a speed boost which gets some surprise thunderbolt kills. Leftovers to get some longetivity. She can take a bunch of special attacks, the most important of which is Chandelure and Rotom-H that 3 of my pokes are afraid of.

Offensive SR/Killer

Comcast (Cobalion) @ Lum Berry
Trait: Justified
EVs: 252 Atk / 252 Spd / 4 HP
Jolly Nature
- Swords Dance
- Stone Edge
- Close Combat
- Stealth Rock
A fighting type was an obvious choice in the UU metagame and I needed something that can take Dark and Bug attacks aimed at Melody. Cobalion thus was a great choice for a 4X resistance to BOTH of them along with getting a Justified Boost from Dark. It was naturally pretty speedy too and can revenge kill stuff that aren’t choice scarfed. He was also an underrated Poke and Swords Dance was a nice boosting attack. I’ve swept a few teams with this but he’s mainly there to threaten bulky normals and to kill flying types. I sometimes use him as a lead as he can directly threaten the taunters. Unfortunately he has a fighting type and ground type weakness which are the biggest problems for my team.
Ironically I originally started with a Verizion for my justified fighting type but he shared the same a gaping ice and flying weakness with Roserade and even died to boosted dark attacks. I switched to a hidden power ice Cobalion but that move was useless so I decided that it could support the team with Stealth Rock. Also nice when Froslass tries to Destiny Bond me. Lum Berry cures burns from Sableye so I can get a X2 Stone Edge in and also cures Paralysis from Togekiss (an annoying threat) getting the 2hko with either stone edge or close combat

Hazard Setter/SpD Support

Rachel (Roserade) (F) @ Black Sludge
Trait: Natural Cure
EVs: 252 HP / 240 SDef / 16 Spd
Calm Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Toxic Spikes
- Giga Drain
- Sludge Bomb
- Leech Seed Sleep Powder
She was my original entry hazard setter, setting up layers of Spikes. She was a Specially Defensive Roserade that takes many special attacks easily, even ones that were super effective from stuff like Froslass. She takes the water and electric attacks aimed at Rover and Mimi like a queen and Toxic too. However after putting Stealth Rock on Cobalion and switching Zapdos with Milotic I thought Toxic Spikes fit the team more even though it was easily removed. It has helped me more times than not though. Also Leech Seed was originally Rest but that move was just never useful and Leech Seed helped almost “mini-scout” by weakening any nongrass type sent in and pretty much wins the game when its on their last Pokemon. Pondering about Stun Spore because I have 3 set up users though.

Fire Physical Tank
059.gif

Rover (Arcanine) (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Intimidate
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Def / 8 SDef
Impish Nature
- Flare Blitz
- ExtremeSpeed
- Morning Sun
- Crunch
I needed a fire type and a defensively based one (though that is a little counterproductive as I have no rapid spinner) so this big dog is my physical tank. With intimidate he can actually take a lot of attacks with ease even Earthquake from Heracross and koing back with Flare Blitz. Extremespeed also 2hkos Sharpedo while it fails to ohko unless I’m severely weakened. Extremespeed picks off a lot of dangerous mons like Darmanitan too. This guy is surprisingly very bulky yet able to hit very had. It actually wins 1v1 against offensive arcanines (and dittos) because of Morning Sun! I originally had Will-o-Wisp as the site suggested but with Roserade using Toxic Spikes and with that set unable to touch Chandelure at all I switched to… (close combat at first rofl) before I switched to Crunch (which 2hkos Chandelure which I usually nab on the switch) Crunch also does good in lowering Defense which has helped me many times, most memorably on a 70% scarfgon where I managed to then kill it with extremespeed. Was my only fire resist in the beginning which was a bad idea.

Revenge/Set Up Sweeper
430.gif

Honchkrow (M) @ Life Orb
Trait: Moxie
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SDef / 252 Spd
Adamant Nature
- Sucker Punch
- Brave Bird
- Superpower
- Pursuit

Langley (Bisharp) (F) @ Leftovers
Trait: Defiant
EVs: 52 HP / 252 Atk / 204 Spd
Adamant Nature
- Substitute
- Swords Dance
- Sucker Punch
- Low Kick
Don’t know why I choose her much, just furthered my Heracross weakness but I eventually found she was an AMAZING revenge killer and could even sweep! Maybe because I play her well but I’ve had many a comeback because of her strangely enough. I’ve koed things like Machamp with this gal. She can kill a Stealth rocked Darmanitan, a weakened Flygon, and scarflure with Sucker Punch easily. I usually come in on something that would switch or a choice locked stone edge from heracross and Snorlax without Earthquake and then set up swords dance. I can set up a few Swords Dances because I usually play around with her well when the opponent uses something like Porygon2. However, she shares many weaknesses with my team. She does share a small synergy with Meloetta though and I usually rely on her for a comeback.

Overall Wall/Utility

Mimi (Milotic) (F) @ Leftovers
Trait: Marvel Scale
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Def / 8 Spd
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Surf
- Ice Beam
- Recover
- Haze
And this was the final addition to my first UU team. She replaced a Life Orb offensive Zapdos who really didn’t work out for me as though Zapdos did provide a great ground immunity it died to every fire type and choice scarfer ever and just wasn’t a good fit with my team. I needed a Special Attack tank that wasn’t weak to Heracross and Darmanitan/Chandelure so I went with Milotic who is underrated (and Blastoise is overrated lol I didn’t need a spinner anyways, only one sr weak poke). This thing easily tanks Fire attacks from the likes of all the common choice scarfs fires (I usually win against Victini if it doesn’t bolt strike on the switch) and actually takes physical attacks pretty well from the likes of heracross and Mienshao. Surf helps break substitutes easier and I didn’t really need the burn chance (or maybe I do) because of Toxic Spikes and Haze 100% removes boosts which has fared me well as it occasionally even moves first.
So this was my team. The main goal is basically what a normal bulky balanced team does. Attempt to set up hazards, use my tanks well and then send in my set-up boosters into a resisted attack or after someone dies when they’re ready. I find I have a HUGE ground weakness though and I lose often to unexpected special flying type moves too. I actually haven’t used this team for about 2 weeks and was using my Venomoth quiverpass team but I wanted to get some thoughts on this as this was still very reliable

Edit: Can someone also help me with inserting images?

You can add pictures by editing your post and clicking that little picture icon with the mountains. Then you need to add the link to the picture and its as good as done.

I also recommend that you replace leech seed with rest on your roserade. With rest, you are able to fully heal up and recover from status conditions because of roserades handy ability, Natural Cure.

I think the real problem with this team is that it relies heavily on set up sweeping. All 3 of your offensive pokemon need set up of some sort to sweep, an most of the time that isn't easy to get. Without Swords Dances or Calm Minds your sweepers are all pretty weak.

Your attackers are also easily revenge killed by anything with a Choice Scarf. I think the best way to remedy this would be to get a Scarf user of your own. Flygon, Mienshao, and Victini are all good fast choices. I would recommend replacing Cobalion with one of these guys.

Bisharp is very easily played around, especially by the higher ranked players of the tier. I think a good replacement for it would be the excellent wall breaker Nidoqueen. It has excellent coverage moves boosted by Sheer Force and good bulk as well.

I think Leech Seed should be replaced, by either Synthesis or Sleep Powder. Rest is too risky in my opinon, as you give the other player basically a free turn to do anything while you are forced to switch out to cure sleep.

Your team has a pretty bad weakness to Zapdos and Raikou, both of them can seriously mess up your team. I think replacing Milotic with Swampert would be a good idea. It helps remedy your weakness to Sub CM Raikou, can set up Rocks, and can phaze with Roar.

Thanks guys, I'll try those out, though Bisharp does ok with most of the Scarfers, only afraid of Heracross and Mienshao which Arcanine and Milotic check.

Sleep Powder is illegal with Spikes/Toxic Spikes I hear.

My biggest problem is still with the images lol. Does anyone have the URL link to the sprites? I did it with my downloaded 5th gen animated sprites but all that come out is this:
C:\Users\Daniel\AppData\Local\Temp\Temp1_5th Gen Animated Sprites.zip\5th Gen Animated Sprites\648.gif

Sleep Powder + T-Spikes is legal, Sleep Powder + Spikes is illegal. And you can find all the animated sprites here: http://sprites.pokecheck.org/ Right click one and click Copy Image URL, then click the Insert Image button and paste the URL in the bar.

Thanks for the tip! I changed Leech Seed to Sleep Powder and tried out Nidoqueen but she didn't really work. She still had the same Ground Weakness and still wasn't bulky enough on the physical side. I was even more owned by Flygon as I couldn't priority with Nidoqueen to pick it off. Any other suggestions? Maybe Honchkrow? Bisharp's Sucker Punch had been very helpful in the past

Fair enough about Nidoqueen. I would say Honchkrow could work, I personally love it and find it much more threatening than Bisharp.
Set:

Honchkrow @ Life Orb
Trait: Moxie
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SDef / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Brave Bird
- Sucker Punch
- Superpower
- Pursuit/Roost

I like Pursuit over Roost, but it comes down to personal preference.

Ok I did all the changes. Honchkrow did synergize well with this team indeed, I already have 3 ice resists and it gave me a ground immunity. My SR weakness grew with this guy though. Anything else I should improve? Does my overall team look ok?
