Flav-Or-Ice

Hello, this is my first try at making a team. Ice is my favorite type, and Glaceon is my favorite pokemon so I decided I'd try to make a hail team. I am definitely open to all kinds of suggestions, but I'm pretty set on using Glaceon. Thanks :)

Froslass @ Focus Sash
Trait: Cursed Body
EVs: 252 Spd / 252 HP / 4 SAtk
Timid Nature
- Spikes
- Destiny Bond
- Taunt
- Blizzard

Froslass is my lead. She is pretty fast so she can usually taunt the opponent right off the bat. Then she proceeds to set up spikes. Destiny bond is great, especially when the opponent leads with something that would give the rest of the team trouble. The focus sash helps with her fragility. Ghost typing provides spinblocking. Blizzard is there so she can do damage if she's lasted long enough to be switched out.

Abomasnow @ Expert Belt
Trait: Snow Warning
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 252 Atk / 252 HP / 4 SAtk
Lonely Nature
- Blizzard
- Wood Hammer
- Earthquake
- Hidden Power [Fire]

I basically just use this guy for permanent auto-hail. Sometimes his wood hammer is helpful since I don't have any other grass moves on the team. He's pretty slow but occasionally earthquake helps him out of a jam with fire types. TBH I would like to get rid of him but that seems to defeat the purpose of the team.

Kingdra @ Chesto Berry
Trait: Sniper
EVs: 252 Spd / 252 Atk / 4 SDef
Adamant Nature
- Outrage
- Dragon Dance
- Rest
- Waterfall

I've played around with this slot alot and I just took PTJon7's advice and switched it to a Kingdra from Milotic. Things have gone better with Kingdra. Water type is great on this team to take care of fire. In most cases ChestoRest lets me heal him if he needs it after setting up before spamming Outrage. All in all I think that a water type sweeper is really advantageous for a team of vulnerable ice pokemon.

Meloetta @ Leftovers
Trait: Serene Grace
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 252 SAtk / 252 HP / 4 Atk
Mild Nature
- Close Combat
- Psychic
- Relic Song
- Thunderbolt

I love Meloetta. The psychic/fighting switch is really fun for me. Thunderbolt has saved me more than once from water pokemon. Her niche on the team is not as obvious as some of the others, but she is useful in a variety of situations and can take hits from some threats that would decimate the others on the team.

Glaceon @ Choice Specs
Trait: Ice Body
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 252 SAtk / 76 HP / 180 Spd
Modest Nature
- Blizzard
- Shadow Ball
- Hidden Power [Ground]
- Signal Beam

Glaceon, how I adore you. Choice Specs+SpAtk EVs+100% accurate Blizzard is just ridiculous. Glaceon tends to hang back in the wings and wait for the right opportunity to switch out and sweep hard. Obviously she has a fair amount of weaknesses and is rather one sided with her single ice typing but she is a force to be reckoned with, no doubt. I have played with the EVs alot and as you can see they are sort of a mess right now.

Chandelure @ ???
Trait: Flash Fire
EVs: 252 HP / 252 SAtk / 4 SDef
Modest Nature
- Fire Blast
- Shadow Ball
- Energy Ball
- Hidden Power [Fighting]

Chandelure is another heavy hitting special sweeper. He's also another glass cannon, however. His flash fire ability is really nice for switching in on an opponent's fire blast. I'm up in the air about where to go with his item and I'm also ambivalent about HP Fighting.

Hey welcome to the forums. As a rule all RMT posts need atleast 3 lines of description for each pokemon. For people to give you as good advice as possible they need to know what sort of roles each pokemon plays in the team.

  • I don't think Signal Beam on Glaceon does anything for it, Blizzard hits Grass types and Shadow Ball hits Psychics. I don't think it is necessary to have a move just to hit Dark types super-effectively, Ice Beam in it's place would make sure Glaceon can still be effective even if the Hail gets removed somehow.

  • HP Fighting on Chandelure isn't really that great, it'll actually do less than a Fire Blast to Normal types and Snorlax won't even be hurt too badly by it. Energy Ball however would enable Chandelure to easily take out Water types like Swampert or Ground types like Rhyperior that would otherwise cause Chandelure trouble. Also give it atleast 128 Speed EVs though honestly I think full investment would be better.

  • You should really run full Speed over HP on Meloetta, the team is quite slow as it is and just running HP EVs on sweepers isn't necessarily a good thing (it can often be the opposite).

  • On a Hail team I've been using recently I've dealt with Fire types by using a RestChesto DD Kingdra. Thanks to it's 4x resistance to Fire it can easily come it on any Fire attack and proceed to start setting up. I'd recommend you try it over Milotic.

Thank you for your feedback! I edited the post to fit the rules and I also figured out how to do the cool animated sprites. Yay!

Now that this thread is fixed, I'd be happy to take a look at the team and give it a rate. I only have a couple things to say about this team though, it's pretty good as it is. I'm not that experienced with hail teams but I'll try to give my 2 cents as best as I can.

Now that you have switched from Milotic to Kingdra, you've got yourself a pretty offensive team. That's not always a bad thing, but in the case of hail, it seems odd that you're leaving the residual damage it causes mostly unabused by any Pokemon on this team. I believe that it's important to have options to stall out threats on a team, and hail can really give you the upper hand in the right cases. This is why I recommend you give Walrein a shot.

Walrein @ Leftovers
Trait: Ice Body
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def. / 4 Sp. Def
Calm Nature
- Subsitute
- Protect
- Toxic
- Blizzard/Super Fang

It's unbelievable how well Stallrein can stay alive under hail. It's definitely a staple that I strongly recommend for this team.

Along with Walrein, I definitely recommend Leech Seed Abomasnow over the Expert Belt set. Abomasnow isn't exceptionally bulky, but that doesn't mean it can't pass the ever-so useful leech seed to another Pokemon that could use the residual healing (AKA Walrein which combined with Ice Body, Leftovers and Leech seed would be absolutely unstoppable.)

Abomasnow @ Leftovers
Trait: Snow Warning
EVs: 248 HP / 8 Sp. Atk. / 252 Sp. Def
Calm Nature
- Protect
- Leech Seed
- Wood Hammer/Grass Knot
- Blizzard

That's all I have to say! Like I said, I'm not that experienced with using hail teams myself, but I can imagine these changes greatly benefiting you. I wish you the best of luck!

Howdy! I don't mean to try and change your team further, but I've got just a few ideas.

On Chandy, may I suggest Choice Scarf? This allows him to outrun lots of pokes he might normally lose to and smash them with a STAB. This would also entail changing his EVs to 4 HP/252 SpAtk/252 Speed. This would give your team some appreciated immediate speed, and would allow you to effectively run Trick over HP Fighting!

Also, since I personally am a big fan of Ebelt Abomasnow, may I suggest changing his EVs to 252 Atk/172 SpAtk/84 Speed? This allows Aboma to have higher offensive presence while actually outrunning some stuff!

Hope this helped!

By all means, if you have changes or advice please lemme know! I think choice scarf is a great idea. And abomasnow has been totally broken so hopefully these new evs will help him perform better. Thanks much!

I have a few suggestions
  • If froslass is your lead, give it ice beam over blizzard cuz it seems like hail won't be up most of the time you send it out
  • I agree meloetta needs speed. Also I'd change the nature to hasty or naive
  • I would run life orb over expert belt on Abomasnow. You could even replace hp fire with swords dance (in UU a weak hp fire is only very rarely useful on this set as there is nothing 4x weak to it bar other Abs) and blizzard with ice shard and make it an all out phsyical threat. IMO this is the most threatening Ab set out there but expert belt has its advantages.
  • I suggest giving chandelure specs and giving it trick over hp fighting.
  • Just as a general question for the team, do you really need hail? The only thing that truly benefits from it is glaceon, but is that really worth it? It seems to hurt chandy, kingdra and meloetta, a good half of your team.
  • You could try replacing signal beam with sleep talk on glaceon (I'm assuming it gets ST, not entirely sure) cuz, as said before, signal beam doesn't do much for it.
  • You have 4 stealth rock weak guys and no spinner. This could prove pretty problematic and you might want to consider something like blastoise or xatu
I like the team as a whole, especially the good synergy.
