Floatzel and Friends, a Rain Dance Double Battle Team

Hello everyone. This is a Rain Dance team that I have recently been working on. I know there is probably a lot to fix, but please don't flame me for making mistakes. Please rate my team. Thank you.

Jolteon @ Damp Rock
Ability: Volt Absorb
EVs: 4 HP/252 Spd/252 SAtk
Timid nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Rain Dance
- Thunder
- Light Screen
- Shadow Ball

My lead Rain Dancer. He's fast and can get it up very quickly. Plus, with Damp Rock, the rain will be around longer. After that it can either being to attack with Thunder/Shadow Ball, or set up Light Screen and then attack.

Ludicolo @ Life Orb
Ability: Swift Swim
EVs: 40 HP/216 Spd/252 SAtk
Modest nature (+SAtk, -Atk)
- Fake Out
- Surf
- Energy Ball
- Ice Beam

My second lead. Fake Out whatever you see as a threat and then proceed to pound on them with one of the 3 moves, Surf, Energy Ball and Focus Blast. With 216 Spd EVs, it hits 230 speed, which translates to 460 speed in the Rain, so it should be faster then a lot of things.

Empoleon @ Liechi Berry
Ability: Torrent
EVs: 252 HP/252 Atk/4 Def
Adamant nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Agility
- Waterfall
- Brick Break
- Substitute

A Physical Sweeper. After using Substitute and Agility and activating Liechi Berry, a STAB Waterfall plus Liechi plus Rain will do tons of damage.

Kingdra @ Life Orb
Ability: Swift Swim
EVs: 160 HP/96 Spd/252 SAtk
Modest nature (+SAtk, -Atk)
- Rain Dance
- Surf
- HP Electric
- Ice Beam

Another Rain Dancer and Sweeper. This guy's speed also hits 460 speed in rain. it it's not setting up Rain Dance, it's pounding away at the enemy with Surf, HP Electric, or Ice Beam.

Vaporeon @ Leftovers
Ability: Water Absorb
EVs: 252 HP/228 Def/28 SDef
Bold nature (+Def, -Atk)
- Rain Dance
- Surf
- Ice Beam
- Helping Hand

Yet another Rain Dancer (don't worry it's the last one). Rain Dance if need be or else Surf/Ice Beam the enemy. Helping Hand is just for giving a faster friend a little boost in its assault.

Floatzel @ Life Orb
Ability: Swift Swim
EVs: 76 HP/252 Atk/64 Def/12 Spd/104 SDef
Adamant nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Brick Break
- Taunt
- Ice Fang
- Waterfall

The Physical Sweeper of the bunch (I know Kabutops is physical, but I like Floatzel better). Just pick a move that seems appropriate and fight your heart out. The 12 Spd EVs so it hits 538 speed in rain. It should always end up being in the rain, so there really isn't any fear of it being slow. Taunt is for anyone that wants to ruin the fun of my other pokemon.

Well there you have it. Please feel free to make any comments you like. I'd really appreciate suggestions on items, natures, EVs, and/or movesets. I am kind of going for Item Clause, but if thats not achived it's ok.

Thank you for reading. Pleas rate.

Very quickly it's obvious that you have way too many Rain Dancers, no matter what way you look at it. Two pokemon setting it up is good enough. If you have four pokemon with it, it's just a waste of moveslots.

Go through your team and see which pokemon you want sweeping, and those would be the ones whom you can take Rain Dance off. Let your bulkier pokemon like Vaporeon set it up. For example, Kingdra could always have Hidden Power Electric or another attack over it.

Sorry, but I don't agree with you. All I can say is that you'll have to trust me when I say that 4 Rain Dancers are ok to have.

a few questions / comments....

- why does Ludicolo have that horrible nature? please don't say for Fake Out.

- 460 Speed is your magic number if you want to outpace Choice Scarf / +Speed Nature / 252 EV Moltres, Lucario, Pory-Z, and Zangoose. 461 to outpace +Speed Nature / 252 Spe EV Ninjask. Are those high on your threat list? those aren't too common. make sure your EV spreads are optimized and not wasted. 28 EVs somewhere else can help take a hit better in tight games.

- 252 Speed EVs on Floatzel is a complete waste. 538 speed is the number to outpace Choice Scarf / Neutral Nature / 252 Spe EV Aerodactyl. 658 Speed is overboard and is just not making good use of your EVs (once again). Adamant Swift Swim Floatzel should run a bulkier spread. with 4 Rain Dancers, rain better be up so don't worry about being caught outside the rain.

wow, I didn't even notice that, its suppose to be modest sorry, and i guess 460 it is, i actually wasn't sure what the number was. and thanks for floatzels spd as well

the swords dance think i'll look into

No, Winto is right: as someone who has not only made a doubles team that uses Rain Dance but others that employ different field effects, I can tell you without a doubt that four rain dancers is excessive. I'd honestly leave it at just Jolteon for the lead and Vaporeon for the back up.

With so many water resistances, I have to wonder why you aren't abusing the hell out of Surf more. It's more accurate than Hydro Pump, hits both opponents, is boosted by rain to counteract the BP drop, Vaporeon heals from it, and even for the more fragile pokes like Floatzel you've already got Jolteon's Light Screen to halve the damage. If you're worried about other Rain Dance teams abusing this, Kingdra's already got Signal Beam to kill opposing Ludicolos and Starmies and you could always give it HP Electric for other Swift Swimmers, Ludicolo's Energy Ball will help with Vaporeon, and Jolteon can just drop Thunders on the jerks.

I would replace Empoleon with Kabutops, since it does the same thing except that it's faster, gets Swift Swim, has higher attack, and doesn't need to set up. While it doesn't resist Water, it still resists Explosion.

On the whole, the team looks pretty solid; a few changes and it looks like it could be beast. Watch out for Discharge Porygon-Z and Zapdos, though.

I changed Empoleon to kabutops. though the evs might need a little work on. these team is starting to have no other moves except attacking ones. is that good?

Hey again. I'm going to have to agree with the others and say that you don't really need four rain dancers, mostly because there isn't any reason to have four. If your in a double battle of course you're sending out two pokemon at a time and even if you had three, which isn't really neccessary either, there would be one per pair. If I were you I would drop rain dance on Empoleon and go for something like:

Empoleon@Liechi Berry
Adamant

Agility
Waterfall
Brickbreak
Substitute

A Torrent STAB Waterfall is definetely nothing to sneeze at, but I guess that's your decision.

I'm not really sure why Ludicolo has focus blast, but since there's only one other Pokemon on this team that has Ice Beam, you might want to go for that instead. That can be said for Kingdra and Signal Beam as well. You also might consider giving Floatzel Taunt since it's one of the fastest taunters in the game and can ruin your opponent's strategy.

thank you for the empoleon set, I put empoleon back on the team and changed alot of moves to surf, let me know if some of them should have hydro pump instead. in the end I still have 3 Rain dancers and I think thats a good number, u nless anyone has a really good reason not to have it. thank you all for reading and rating and commenting, please continue to do so

I really believe that Fake Out is simply wasting a turn of rain, and won't be hitting massive damage anytime soon. The "free damage" comes at the pricey cost of rain, and when that last moveslot can be used for something such as Focus Blast, Fake out just becomes deadweight. Consider it, I am not saying Fake Out isn't useless, but when you have Focus Blast to take out Ice, Normal and Steel Threats, it just provides much better coverage. That's my two cents here, hope I helped. One last thing, 2 Rain Dancers is fine, take it out on Vaporeon or Kingdra.
