ORAS Ubers Flying = Offense

Recently in OU room they were discussing Mega Diancie. One person mentioned its lack of usable resistance, glossing over Flying like it's a garbage type. I, for one, is a big fan of Flying as an offensive type. However, I then realized that most abusers of Flying type offense are now in Ubers. Which inspired me to make a team centered on Mega Salamence (Aerilate FTW) and Ho-Oh (spam Brave Bird all day).
Team Details

Salamence @ Salamencite
Happiness: 0
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Dragon Dance
- Frustration
- Earthquake
- Roost

Abuser no. 1. Mega Salamence is the win condition sweeper here. It is a perfect mixture of offense and bulk, with Aerilate boosting its 103 BP STAB off of fully invested base 145 Atk + EQ to round out the coverage. After a Dragon Dance it outspeeds the entire unboosted tier and all relevant Scarf users. Finally Roost is there for longevity, allowing Salamence to have additional utility in checking certani threats. Adamant + Frustration is chosen as a compromise between Jolly (not enough power) and Double Edge (reduces sweeping longevity).

Ho-Oh @ Choice Band
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 248 HP / 208 Atk / 52 SpD
Adamant Nature
- Brave Bird
- Sacred Fire
- Earthquake
- Sleep Talk

Abuser no 2. Choice Band Ho-Oh is another offensive core and it is the perfect definition of hit and run. It can use its great special bulk to come in on a lot of threats, unleash a powerful attack backed by Choice Band, and switch out -- regaining a large portion of any health lost through Regenerator. The spread is standard in checking GeoXern (surviving +2 Thunder at full health). Brave Bird is highly spammable as recoil is mitigated by Regenerator; Sacred Fire's burn chance helps with Ho-Oh's lack luster physical bulk, but it's a less safe move to be locked into with the Primals running around; Earthquake hits Rock types, notably, it OHKOs Mega Diancie the turn it Mega Evolves; Sleep Talk allows Ho-Oh to counter Darkrai, as all of its moves can KO Darkrai and Ho-Oh itself takes very little damage thanks to its great Special bulk.

383.png

Groudon-Primal @ Red Orb
Ability: Desolate Land
EVs: 248 HP / 156 Atk / 88 SpD / 16 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Precipice Blades
- Stone Edge
- Roar

The most meta breaking Pokemon ever (wsup MRay?), it combines a lot of roles. This set is a fairly standard offensive Stealth Rock setter, hence Stealth Rock. Precipice Blades is the STAB, and Stone Edge has notable targets including Yveltal and Ho-Oh. Roar is chosen over Dragon Tail to reliably solve GeoXern. The spread here: a little bit of Speed creep, 156 Atk and Adamant to always OHKO 0/0 Primal Kyogre, max HP for the best mixed bulk, and the rest dumped into Sp. Def.

381.png

Latios @ Soul Dew
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Draco Meteor
- Psyshock
- Defog
- Memento

After the offensive SR setter, meet the offensive Defogger! Defog support is critical for Flying type Pokemon, and the Eon twins are some of the best in this tier to use it. Latios with max offensive investment is used here to generate free turns for Defog. Draco Meteor is the main STAB, and its main targets are Adamant Mega Salamence and offensive Primal Groudon. Psyshock's main targets are Blissey and Primal Kyogre. Finally, Memento generates huge amounts of momentum. It synergizes well with our win condition, creating golden opportunities to set up. It also prevents Latios from being set up bait for things like EKiller Arceus, especially after a Sp. Atk drop after Draco Meteor.

707.png

Klefki @ Leftovers
Ability: Prankster
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpD
Careful Nature
- Thunder Wave
- Toxic
- Play Rough
- Reflect

This is the check to X and Y version mascots. As Primal Groudon has no recovery and has many important uses, Klefki is a safer Xerneas switch in when the opposing set is yet unknown. Yveltal is walled by this, and risks getting crippled by Parlysis while taking decent damage from super effective Play Rough. Toxic makes Klefki a good Lugia switch in, able to absorb its Toxic (doesn't care about T-wave), and threaten it with Prankster Toxic. Toxic is also there to hit Primal Groudon on a predicted switch in, making it much easier to deal with. The last move usually goes to Spikes, but I've chosen Reflect here to not conflict with Defog. Prankster Reflect also helps against physical attackers, as this spread is pure specially defensive. It also prevents Klefki from being set up bait to Ekiller Arceus, as Arceus doesn't care THAT much about being Paralyzed or Badly Poisoned.

493.png

Arceus @ Dread Plate
Ability: Multitype
EVs: 248 HP / 84 Def / 176 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Judgment
- Will-O-Wisp
- Recover
- Defog

Arceus-Dark has risen in popularity, as the Eon twins and Giratina-O got better in this meta. This is a fairly standard support Arceus set. Recover is fairly mandatory. 176 Spe and Timid to outspeed Eon twins and nail them with super effective Judgment, the rest is dumped into physical bulk. Dark is also a pretty good mono attacking type to spam, as it has no immunities and hits Primal Groudon neutrally. Will-O-Wisp to check physical attackers like SD Rayquaza and Ekiller Arceus (especially with Reflect support). Finally a second Defog. This allows me to use Latios, an offensive Pokemon by nature, a lot more liberally on a team with two SR weaknesses.

Threats:

493.png

Refresh / Lum Berry Ekiller Arceus: this team relies heavily on status to check this monster. With Refresh / Lum Berry, it is guaranteed to trade well with my teams (if not downright sweeping it).

249.png

Fast Sub Toxic Lugia: Klefki is currently the only safe switch in to Lugia. If it uses Substitute on the switch, Klefki is powerless against it.

250.png

Ho-Oh: just because I'm using Ho-Oh myself doesn't mean I'm not weak to it. It can be defeated depending on its set, but there is no safe switch in to it right now.

719-mega.png

Mega Diancie: once it safely Mega Evolves, its very tough to stop, especially if it carries Diamond Storm (otherwise Ho-Oh can defeat it).

Hey CallMeSerious,

I do think this is a pretty solid team (though kinda standardish). You have mentioned a few threats which you are concerned with; I agree with them to some extent. I don't have that many comments but I do have a few which could help this team out a bit.

First of all I think running a bulkier Salamence would greatly benefit this team. A spread of 200 HP / 100 Atk / 32 Def / 176 Spe should suffice, allowing you to take on Ekiller much better. Additionally, running Refresh over Earthquake can help you by letting you check Ho-Oh effectively, without worrying about the burn. Your Groudon should be able to punish Steel- and Rock-types, though the former is mostly relevant. Since you are running a more offensive support Groudon, I would recommend running Latias over Latios, because you have more longevity, while Salamence's natural physical bulk tends to give it a fair amount of setup opportunities. It is also more reliable against Groudon, and since you really need Defog for Ho-Oh, having Roost/Recover to prevent being overwhelmed is super important.

Latias @ Soul Dew
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 212 HP / 120 SpA / 176 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Defog
- Roost
- Draco Meteor
- Psyshock
Also, you might consider hitting certain odd HP values, but that is rather minor.

Good luck!
