Set Details
========
- Ditto is uniquely able to punish teams using the Calyrex-S plus Zamazenta restricted pairing.
- This is due to Calyrex-S checking itself with Astral Barrage, and Zamazenta checking itself with Body Press. Additionally, Ditto gets a second boost from Zamazenta's Dauntless Shield, since it copies its stat changes, then activates the ability, allowing it to hit Zamazenta harder.
- It is also generally good against the broader format, with other restricted such as Miraidon and Lunala hitting themselves with moves that check themselves, such as Draco Meteor and Moongeist Beam, respectively.
- Ditto can have unique case-by-case applications when transforming into support Pokemon such as Incineroar and Amoonguss, but Ditto is often best used to copy the opponent's Restricted Pokemon and allow your team to essentially wield 3 Restricteds.
- Focus Sash helps avoid the speed tie that comes with copying the opponent's Speed, especially when Ditto wants to hit the opponent with its own supereffective moves, as well as providing defensive utility against the powerful attacks of Regulation I.
- 0 Speed IVs are recommended for the somewhat rare scenario where Ditto is faced with another Ditto and they are both forced to Struggle. Minimum speed Ditto helps ensure that you Struggle last, so that the opponent Ditto uses Struggle first, hopefully knocking itself out.
- Ghost is generally useful to keep Ditto's Focus Sash intact against Fake Out, and helps immensely against Zamazenta, allowing you to avoid Body Press altogether if you Transform into it.
- Tera Ghost can also provide a boost to your Astral Barrage if you Transform into Calyrex-S, but if the goal is to punish Shadow Rider, tera Normal helps avoid its main attack altogether, and avoiding the mandatory speed tie.
Teambuilding
=========
- Ditto can generally checked with good positioning. Being mindful of which slots it can come in on, and switching accordingly is key, as it only transforms into the Pokemon directly across from it. Forcing Ditto to Transform into a disadvantageous (usually support-oriented) Pokemon is a great way to deal with the threat.
- Breaking Focus Sash early can be important to later punish Ditto's low HP stat, so moves such as Fake Out and Sucker Punch are good tools to have to play around Ditto. These are also great moves to use to pick off weakened or 1 HP Ditto.
- Pokemon that resist their own moves, such as Landorus-I, Chien-Pao (without Sacred Sword), and Calyrex-I, can somewhat comfortably allow Ditto to transform into them and hamper Ditto's effectiveness.
- Rillaboom can tank its own hits besides super effective U-Turn, and can threaten Ditto's sash with both Fake Out and Grassy Glide. Grassy Surge is also very useful against Miraidon, which is a common Ditto partner.
- Urshifu-R can cut through Focus Sash with Surging Strikes, depending somewhat on what it transformed into, and pick off weakened Ditto with Aqua Jet. Choice Scarf Urshifu-R is also an excellent check to Ditto as Calyrex-S, who could otherwise sweep entire teams with stolen boosts.
- Weezing-G turns off Imposter completely, which effectively forces Ditto out of the match. Toxic Spikes and Poison Gas can also easily break its sash and bring it into KO range, especially if it is forced to remain as Ditto.
- Ditto cannot transform into Stellar Terapagos, nor Terastalized Ogerpon. This uniquely helps Terapagos and Ogerpon-H leverage their boosts against Ditto teams that would otherwise try to turn them against them.
- Partners who can help Ditto avoid speed tying with whatever it transforms into, and partners who can help it switch into favorable transformations are the best Ditto partners.
- Thunder Wave Grimmsnarl and Tailwind Whimsicott are standout speed control Pokemon who can help Ditto avoid speed ties, which are important in the case of Calyrex-S and Zamazenta. They can also apply Reflect and/or Light Screen to help Transformed Ditto survive attacks from Restricted Pokemon, which is especially helpful given its low HP.
- Incineroar and Miradon can help pivot Ditto into advantageous transformations with U-turn/Parting Shot and Volt Switch.
- Calyrex-I in particular has a hard time against Calyrex-S and Zamazenta, especially if they are paired together, so it appreciates Ditto being able to check one or both of them.
- Universally good support moves such as Fake Out, Wide Guard, and Follow Me/Rage Powder are appreciated against restricteds and other attackers that can threaten themselves as Ditto.
