[SET]
Offensive Tank (Goodra-Hisui) @ Leftovers
Ability: Sap Sipper
EVs: 156 HP / 176 SpA / 176 Spe
Modest Nature
- Draco Meteor
- Flash Cannon
- Flamethrower / Earthquake
- Knock Off
[SET COMMENTS]
Thanks to its vast movepool, impressive special bulk, and solid defensive typing, Hisuian Goodra is a notable tank on offensive teams for its ability to help check Iron Moth, Hydrapple, Enamorus, and specially offensive Aegislash, leveraging its plethora of opportunities against these Pokemon to fire off its disruptive attacks. Flash Cannon is preferred over Heavy Slam due to its greater effectiveness against common Pokemon that are weak to it, such as Tyranitar and Clefable. Flamethrower hits opposing Steel-type Pokemon such as Swords Dance Aegislash and Scizor, preventing them from potentially taking advantage of it. However, Earthquake trades the ability to hit some of these Pokemon for the ability to OHKO Iron Moth from full HP, preventing it from overwhelming Hisuian Goodra with repeated uses of Fiery Dance long-term. Lastly, Knock Off adds vital utility to Hisuian Goodra's toolkit by allowing it to remove Leftovers from common defensive Pokemon such as Hippowdon and Swampert as well as Heavy-Duty Boots from Amoonguss and Blissey. In particular, thanks to Sap Sipper, Hisuian Goodra is an excellent absorber of Celesteela's Leech Seed and Amoonguss's Spore, which would otherwise be especially irritating for its teammates to handle; in addition, it blocks the former’s recovery in conjunction with Knock Off’s removal of Leftovers. 176 Speed EVs allow Hisuian Goodra to outpace Ursaluna and Azumarill, while 176 Special Attack EVs ensure an OHKO on Hydrapple with Draco Meteor. Due to how well its unique defensive properties complement its offensive potential, Hisuian Goodra partners particularly well with other special attacking teammates such as Aegislash, Enamorus, and Alakazam, which appreciate its ability to sponge hits from checks such as Celesteela and Scizor, making it easier for these Pokemon to get past them long-term. In return, these Pokemon also assist with patching up Hisuian Goodra's weakness to common physical threats such as Mega Aerodactyl, Life Orb Mienshao, and Swords Dance Rillaboom. Additionally, dedicated physical walls such as Rotom-W, Mega Venusaur, and Buzzwole also appreciate Hisuian Goodra's ability to check problematic special attackers such as Hydrapple and Enamorus that would otherwise take advantage of them. Lastly, due to the value Hisuian Goodra's Knock Off provides, entry hazards from the likes of Skarmory and Swampert synergize especially well with it to help overload opposing defensive staples such as Amoonguss, Hippowdon, and Blissey while benefitting from Hisuian Goodra deterring common Knock Off absorbers such as Clefable and Scizor.
