Hey everybody. This is the first team that I’ve posted on the RMT forums, and it’s one that I’ve been using for quite some time now. Back before Thunderus was voted to Ubers, I was using a rain team that I really liked, and I had this team made as well just to be a kind of for fun team. However, the more I used it, the more I started to really like it. Now with Thunderus being Uber, I lost my main sweeper for the rain team, so I’ve started to use this team more. The more I use it, the more I really like it. However, I know that there is room for improvement, so I want to see what you guys have to offer as far as improvements for the team.
Newest changes are in bold!
Scizor (M) @ Choice Band
Trait: Technician
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 SDef
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Bullet Punch
- U-turn
- Superpower
- Pursuit
Scizor usually ends up being the lead for my team, unless I see that my opponent’s team has a strong Fire type that could be a possible lead. The EV spread is fairly self explanatory. I gave it 252 in HP to try to increase its survivability. Bullet Punch is the main attack I use, especially for clean up sweeping. U – turn is for scouting out the opponents team, Superpower for Tyranitar and other steel types that give me problems, and Pursuit is for things like Gengar’s or other Psychic or Ghost types that don’t want to stay in against me.
Espeon (M) @ Life Orb
Trait: Magic Bounce
EVs: 252 SAtk / 4 SDef / 252 Spd
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Psyshock
- Grass Knot
- Shadow Ball
- Hidden Power [Fighting]
Ever since Espeon got a useful ability, I was so happy that I could finally have an excuse to use my favorite pokemon from when I was younger. The EV spread again is fairly self explanatory. Esepon has good natural speed and special bulk, so I invested the EVs into hitting harder and faster. The one move that may throw people off is Grass Knot. Not having a Grass move on this team had become a bit of an issue, especially with Pokemon such as Gastrodon floating around. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve switched into a Gastrodon’s Toxic, Magic Bounced it back, and then OHKed it with the unpredicted Grass Knot. HP Fighting is for the Dark types such as Tyranitar that come in thinking they can take the incoming Psychic type move. Only new change here is I have changed the Choice Specs to Life Orb. The ability to change moves has become more and more glaring, so I went with this change. Still lets me hit hard, and also increases longevity since it's easier to get it a wish when I can change moves.
Heatran (M) @ Expert Belt
Trait: Flash Fire
EVs: 24 HP / 252 SpA / 232 Spd
Timid (+Spe, -Atk)
- Fire Blast
- Earth Power
- Hidden Power [Grass]
- Stealth Rock
After being suggested to me, and quite a bit of testing, I have decided to give Jirachi the axe and welcome a new member to this team. Heatran gives me answers to so many things that have gave me trouble in the past. The Expert Belt gives me the bit of an edge that I need to get the kill when I otherwise wouldn't, I still have the ability to set up rocks at anytime if need be, and HP Grass is something that a lot of people don't see coming. The only thing I am still considering is maybe switching the Expert Belt for an Air Balloon, and maybe switch Fire Blast for Lava Plume so that I can get a more often burn. Suggestions?
Vaporeon (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Water Absorb
EVs: 252 HP / 224 Def / 32 SDef
Bold Nature (+Def, -Atk)
- Scald
- Wish
- Protect
- Roar
If I had to pick a MVP for this team, Vaporeon would have to be it. Able to tank hits for days, switch in on incoming water attacks and heal itself, burn threats with Scald, Roar away big threats that set up, and my favorite thing that it does for this team is it’s Wish support. This gives my two Choiced Pokemon, Scizor and Espeon, a much high chance of sticking around for a longer time and doing what they do best. Also, if my opponent tries to go for some early game setups, I get Vaporeon in there and Roar them away as soon as I can.
Latias (F) @ Life Orb
Trait: Levitate
EVs: 152 HP / 176 SpA / 180 Spd
Modest Nature (+SpA, -Atk)
- Draco Meteor
- Surf
- Hidden Power [Fire]
- Recover
Latias has recently got a make over and it's been benefiting me for the most part, though causing me to change the way I play with her. This set was suggested to me as more of a Life Orb Tank rather than just a special wall. While Latias already has awesome Special Defense, I always had the problem of not hitting everything as hard as I would like to, usually leaving things in the low red and forcing me to take a hit. With this new set, I can hit things with more power, still have reliable recovery, and still have enough bulk to tank hits. My only problem with this is since I'm so used to having a more bulky Latias, I'm having to get used to the fact that I can't take as many hits as I used to. However, I am liking have Draco Meteor and usually have a guaranteed kill as long as my opponents special walls are out of the way. Open to suggestions as far as this change goes, just like always.
Porygon2 @ Eviolite
Trait: Download
EVs: 252 HP / 112 Def / 144 SDef
Bold Nature (+Def, -Atk)
- Thunderbolt
- Ice Beam
- Toxic
- Recover
The last, but most certainly not least member of my team is Porygon2. When I first read about the Eviolite stone when Black and White were coming out, I thought that it was going to be a joke item with no real use. After I saw what it was doing to the meta-game, I felt like slapping myself. Porygon2 becomes an amazing physical wall thanks to it, being able to also take special attacks thanks to the EV spread I have on it. Toxic and Recover are for stalling out if needed. Thunderbolt and Ice Beam are great coverage for just about everything. Download for the ability lets it come in and get a needed Special Attack boost, though it can still hold its own fairly well without it.
Past Team Members
Donphan (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Sturdy
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SDef
Careful Nature (+SDef, -SAtk)
- Earthquake
- Ice Shard
- Rapid Spin
- Stealth Rock
After some more testing, along with the advice of a few people, Donphan was the Poke that had to go. It didn't serve too much of a role on my team rather than a spinner, which usually Espeon took care of thanks it Magic Bounce keeping hazards away from me. It did hurt to see my Earthquake user go, along with a decent Physical wall, but what Donphan did for my team, the combination of Espeon and Jirachi do it much better and then some.
Jirachi @ Leftovers
Trait: Serene Grace
EVs: 252 HP / 80 Atk / 176 Spd
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Iron Head
- Body Slam
- Fire Punch
- Stealth Rock
Not a whole lot I can say here. Jirachi just didn't seem to do much for my team while I was testing it out. Though it seems wrong of me to say this, it never seemed to get the burn or paralyze when it was really needed. Heatran just seems to be doing so much more for my team than Jirachi had to offer, especially with the additional changed I have made. Though I may go back and test it some more at a later point, and I'm always open for suggestions, Jirachi is going to be sitting the bench as far as this team goes for now.
So that’s the team. Any thoughts and improvements would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!
