Introduction:

Hey Smogon, I'm Widdly_Scuds, and I'd like to welcome you to my first RMT here. I've been lurking here quite a lot and only now starting to post. I would very much like to become a part of the community here, and what better way to start than with an RMT! I have been battling competitvely since Gen IV, and after taking a break during BW2, I've decided to come back and give X and Y a go. After playing for a healthy amount of time, I decided to make a serious team centred around Mega Mawile. While I've never been the best competitive player in terms of laddering, this team allowed me to win with much more ease than I ever have before.

Without further ado:

196-Espeon-GS.png

Espeon @ Light Clay
Ability: Magic Bounce
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Timid Nature
- Reflect
- Light Screen
- Psyshock
- Hidden Power [Fire]

I usually lead with Espeon. Magic bounce is an incredible ability, such that if I play my cards right, I don't need to worry about the opponent setting up hazards. Dual screens provide amazing support for this team, allowing my sweepers to switch in and set up with much more ease. The other two moves I'm not completely certain about, but they provide decent coverage for the most part. I've considered running Baton Pass to avoid pursuit trappers, but they haven't been too much of a threat so far, and HP Fire has certainly helped out more.

Dragonite @ Lum Berry
Ability: Multiscale
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd
Adamant Nature
- Dragon Dance
- Extreme Speed
- Dragon Claw
- Earthquake

Dragonite functions as the second half of my offensive core. He and Mawile almost perfectly cover each other's weaknesses, so depending on my opponent's team I'll switch into one of the two. After screens are set up, the boosts plus multiscale give Dragonite usually one to two turns to set up Dragon Dances. Lum Berry protects me from incoming burns or paralysis, and I can generally hit back really hard at +2. The moves are pretty straightforward: Dragon Claw for STAB, Extreme Speed to keep up with with so much priority everywhere, and EQ for needed coverage.

303-Mawile-Mega.png

Mawile-Mega @ Mawilite
Ability: Huge Power
EVs: 132 HP / 252 Atk / 124 Spd
Adamant Nature
- Play Rough
- Sucker Punch
- Fire Fang
- Substitute

Mawile is incredible in its Mega form. Great typing, the equivalent of 259 base attack, and sucker punch for priority makes Mega Mawile a huge threat. As the other half of my offensive core, Mawile likes to come in later in the game and pick off Pokémon not already KO'd by Dragonite and Aegislash. I opted out of Swords Dance primarily because I wanted the extra coverage. Substitute is always a great move, especially when paired with Sucker Punch. Sweeping behind a sub and screens if I'm lucky is one of my favourite things to do, and Mawile does it
479-Rotom-Wash.png

Rotom-Wash @ Chesto Berry
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 SDef / 252 HP / 4 SAtk
Calm Nature
- Will-O-Wisp
- Rest
- Hydro Pump
- Volt Switch

Rotom-Wash does an excellent job fitting into almost any team this metagame, and this team is no exception. With an incredible typing, ability, and movepool, I can make it fit almost any role I need. I chose a specially defensive spread, as my team otherwise lacks special bulk. Will-o-miss wisp is always great support. Otherwise Chesto-Resto and the rest of this set is pretty straight forward. Rotom may only do one job but it does it better than anything else in the game.

642-Thundurus.png

Thundurus @ Leftovers
Ability: Prankster
EVs: 4 Atk / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Naive Nature
- Thunder Wave
- Thunderbolt
- Hidden Power [Ice]
- U-turn

I chose to use Thundurus as more of a supporting role on this team. My team members, especially Mega-Mawile, appreciate the paralysis on opponent's faster threats. Thunderbolt and HP Ice provide excellent coverage, as Thundurus can still be a threatening special attacker. U-Turn gives me the chance to scout and gain momentum where I need it, plus makes a great volt-turning partner with Rotom-W. While Thundurus is excellent and does its job well on this team, I'm not 100% sure about using it. If you see anything that I missed that could go in this place, let me know.

681-Aegislash.png

Aegislash @ Weakness Policy
Ability: Stance Change
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 SAtk
Quiet Nature
- King's Shield
- Shadow Ball
- Sacred Sword
- Shadow Sneak

While Mawile can be a great wallbreaker, I've found that Aegislash does the job with much more expertise. Weakness Policy is one of my favourite items to run on mixed Aegislash, giving it +2 to both offenses. When in shield form, Aegislash can tank almost any super-effective hit, and hit back even harder with either Shadow Ball or Sacred Sword. The two moves provide amazing coverage, and Shadow Sneak is there for the times I don't OHKO. Aegislash is great on its own, but for this team, there are a lot of threats it's able to take care of, and walls it's able to break. Its purpose here is to help ensure a late-game sweep for Mawile.

Conclusion:

Thank you everybody for reading, and I hope we can all work together to make this team reach its highest potential. As I've said before, I'm not the absolute best at laddering, and I'd like to do what I can here to play with the big boys for once.

I'm skeptical about pain split on Rotom. I find that ChestoResto is more reliable, plus the added bonus of being able to absorb status when I need it in a pinch.

Man, I thought I was the only one that ran sub-M-Mawile. i did it first i'm much cooler

I'd consider Fire Punch over EQ, perhaps. It can hit potential Ice types or Grass types that want to deal with Rotom-W.

While it is more effective at healing once, I find that Leftovers recovery helps greatly to sponge attacks over time, and Pain Split can be used multiple times.

May I ask why you run your wallbreaker as a gimmicky predictable pokemon

Try a Gyrados:

252 ATK 252 SPEED 4 SP.DEF

Focus Sash or Life Orb

Dragon Dance
Waterfall
Ice Fang
Earthquake

DD up and the proceed to sweep or wallbreak

Really simple, Focus sash allows you not to be threatened as you steamroll through any electric types (even thundurus), Or you can run Life Orb if your using it to wallbreak then switch into your bigger guns.
