Welcome to my third Doubles RMT! This is a team I really like but has been letting me down a little recently. The name is not a reference to anything; I just thought it sounded cool and described the team well. On to the RMT!
Tyranitar @ Tyranitarite
Ability: Sand Stream
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Crunch
- Rock Slide
- Low Kick
- Protect
I wanted to build a strong team showcasing this Pokémon. In my eyes, it's a Pokémon with a lot of potential in the metagame with the right support. I run speed over HP because it can outspeed 252 speed neutral Bisharp and KO it with Low Kick before taking big damage from an Iron Head or Low Kick of its own. Tyranitar is still bulky enough to live random Draco Meteors and Earthquakes. It's my first counter to Talonflame and most Flying-Types in general. With the right support, it can Rock Slide its way through an unprepared team since most lack a strong Rock-type resistance. STAB Crunch will deal large damage to Cresselia which is always a pain no matter what set it's running, especially since a lot of my team is weak to either Psyshock or Ice Beam. Even though my team doesn't really abuse Sand Stream, it helps to have it up so I can get past teams that abuse other teams that use weather.
Latios (M) @ Life Orb
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Psyshock
- Protect
- Tailwind
- Draco Meteor
With Tyranitar being able to pressure a lot of different Steel-types, Latios seemed like a solid choice to help out with Fighting-types such as Hitmontop, Keldeo, and Terrakion and break through the annoying Grass/Poison types in the tier (Amoonguss and Mega Venusaur). I like to run Life Orb because it will help me OHKO 4/0 Landorus-T 100% of the time with Draco Meteor and will put nearly anything that doesn't resist it into range of a Rock Slide KO. I thought Tyranitar could use some Tailwind support for outrunning things like Mega Kangaskhan and Shaymin-Sky to name a couple in order to abuse its powerful Rock Slide to the fullest.
Keldeo @ Life Orb
Ability: Justified
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Quick Guard
- Scald
- Secret Sword
- Protect
I don't know why Keldeo is in Doubles UU. While it's true that Keldeo's coverage is slightly mediocre, being walled to hell and back by common threats like Latios and Amoonguss, the ability to easily take care of other threats like Scrafty and Heatran is really hard to pass up. I chose Quick Guard over coverage like Icy Wind because my other two Pokémon are a bit weak to priority. While Tyranitar has no problems taking Sucker Punch or Espeed, it dies to Mach Punch and Bullet Punch, and Latios just isn't very bulky in general, so my team really appreciates the support. I opted for Scald over Hydro Pump because I like the accuracy, Secret Sword for a second strong STAB move and Life Orb for extra power. This is set could be considered standard in Doubles.
Amoonguss @ Black Sludge
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 252 HP / 184 Def / 72 SpD
Sassy Nature
IVs: null Spe
- Spore
- Sludge Bomb
- Rage Powder
- Protect
This is the glorified "Doubles Mushroom". Amoonguss is probably the most important Pokémon on the whole team because it can draw away fighting-type attacks and electric-types attacks with ease and Spore threats I don't want to deal with. If something manages to get a Trick Room up, Amoonguss is extremely likely to be slower than everything and can put most of their team to sleep without much effort. Rotom-Wash and Keldeo can literally do nothing to it which is extremely good for me. This spread is able to live a Psyshock from Life Orb Latios with the rest put into special bulk. Some people prefer to EV Amoonguss for Charizard-Y's Heat Wave, but I'm not concerned about Charizard at all. Finally, I run Sludge Bomb over Giga Drain in order to be able to actually touch Grass-types like Breloom and since I have a bit of a fairy problem.
Thundurus (M) @ Sitrus Berry
Ability: Prankster
EVs: 252 HP / 32 Def / 8 SpA / 188 SpD / 28 Spe
Calm Nature
- Thunderbolt
- Thunder Wave
- Hidden Power [Ice]
- Taunt
If anyone has a suggestion for a spread, I'm all ears. However, this has been working for me. Speed control and an Earthquake immunity were looking important for me, so Thundurus was the natural choice. I really like Thundurus' ability to cripple a lot of the metagame with a quick Thunder Wave in conjunction with the ability to Taunt Spore or Trick Room users that I dislike. Heavy investment into Special Defense means that I can handle Rain teams a lot easier by being able to take constant Muddy Waters and Ice Beams while keeping Swift Swim users in check for when I don't have the Sand up. Thunderbolt is my reliable STAB attack to help take out bulky Water-types my team struggles with and Hidden Power Ice can potentially catch a Landorus-Therian non-scarfed or on the switch.
Heatran @ Shuca Berry
Ability: Flash Fire
EVs: 56 HP / 252 SpA / 200 Spe
Modest Nature
- Substitute
- Heat Wave
- Earth Power
- Protect
I desperately needed a second Fairy Resistance and I realized that Heatran would be a good member of my team. I realize that I run a lot of speed and a defensive berry, but I'm still able to live an Earth Power if I need to. Other than that, Amoonguss supports this set really well by drawing away super effective Fighting-, Electric- and Water-type attacks that would easily break Heatran's sub or KO it. Shuca Berry and Earth Power with this amount of speed let Heatran beat most other Heatran 1v1. Earth Power can also hit a lot of things pretty hard, including things that like to Wide Guard such as Hitmontop and Aegislash, clearing the way for it to spam Heat Waves. This set is used a lot and it's good at what it does. With Heatran's great defensive typing and offensive pressure from its teammates, it can get a sub up nearly every game and sweep alongside its teammates.
In general, I'd say this team's defensive synergy leaves a lot to be desired. I often have trouble taking down Scrafty and Sylveon without the right Pokémon out since the majority of my team isn't very bulky. Even though there's room for improvement, it's really fun to play with and I'm excited to see what other people have to say about it.
AND NOW FOR SHOUTOUTS!
Shoutout to KyleCole for working hard on Doubles YouTube videos! Seriously guys, go check out his channel! :) (hopefully maybe he's going to rate this team live, we'll see or something)
Shoutout to Shaian for being someone I can go to. If I need a quick opinion, shaian always provides it seriously, which I really appreciate. He's also really fun to be around.
Shoutout to Pinoy Pwnage for being another great Doubles user that I've always wanted to recognize. I've talked with him a lot at PS and he's super willing to help people out wherever he can.
Shoutout to Audiosurfer for encouraging me to make this RMT and being a level-headed person able to make just the right jokes to keep me on my toes. A conversation with him is never boring.
Shoutout to Fangame10 for not getting mods yet. XD Seriously though, you're the go-to Trick Room expert and always willing to test, which I appreciate. Furthermore, you're always willing to share your knowledge.
Shoutout to my favorite room owner Electrolyte for having the most amusing quotes. I know you're getting tired of Pokémon, but remember to come back. Ladder hax is no excuse to leave a community you've been with so long, lol
And hey, shoutout to the rest of the Doubles community for recognizing which tier is truly the best and bringing a smile to my face. I'd also like to apologize in advance for my sucking at shoutouts. With that, let's hear what you guys have to say!
