1. Introduction
So after the release of swellow is stronk’s Sinistcha Stall, I mayhaps have stolen it. And before :gliscor: got banned it was doing very well. But then :gliscor: got banned, and the whole team basically fell apart. But since then I had been experimenting with some homemade stalls. I toggled between that and some offense teams until dlc2 dropped and I waited patiently for one whole day until it was available on showdown. Also before I get spammed by people screaming about how I’m an anti-smogon anti-showdown extremist, I will have you know that I respect all that they do and y’all need to give them 1000% more love. These guys (and gals) are taking time out of their day for a volunteer position where they get no thanks for keeping us Smogon/Showdown users alive. But anyways, basically when dlc2 dropped I was ecstatic for the release of :hydrapple:. Now before I get into how crippling it’s ice weakness is let me remind you that somehow :landorus-therian: is still in OU despite this same weakness. :hydrapple: has all-around pretty great stats. 104-110-80 bulk is nothing to scoff at, especially considering it gets regenerator and recover. And don’t forget about it‘s offensive stats either. :hydrapple: boasts an incredible 120 base special attack stat. That 10 points higher than :slowking: and :slowking-galar:! The idea of this stall team is to cause physical attackers to become useless, and force switches into hazards. So, without further ado, let’s get into it!

2. Teambuilding Process

:hydrapple:
Obviously :hydrapple: here is the first pick on the stall draft. He’s a vital member of our regenerator and defensive cores.

:hydrapple::toxapex::skeledirge:
Now I was looking through the teambuilder for Pokemon that accent :hydrapple: well. :toxapex: resists ice and fairy, the two hardest types for :hydrapple: to deal with defensively. I then chose :skeledirge: as my unaware wall based on its ability to snowball offensively, WoW setup sweepers, and has more reliable recovery than :dondozo:. With these three Pokémon I had rounded out my defensive, regenerator, and Fire-Water-Grass cores.

:hydrapple::toxapex::skeledirge::blissey::clodsire:
Next up I chose :clodsire: due to its ability to stop setup sweepers like :iron-crown:, :iron-valiant:, :archaludon:, :clefable:, :enamorus:, :gholdengo:, :greninja:, :iron-moth:, :volcarona:, :raging-bolt:, and :serperior: after just one Amnesia. That’s almost all of the relevant special meta! The level of defense this little guys pulls of is actually insane. So of course, to go with it is the most infamous of the pink blobs, :blissey:. Anything not walled by :clodsire: gets eaten by :blissey:. Not much else to say.

:hydrapple::toxapex::skeledirge::blissey::clodsire::mandibuzz:
Lastly, I wanted a defogger in case I got knocked off, so I chose :mandibuzz:. :mandibuzz: has great mixed bulk, and is a good blanket check to stored power mons, fsight, and most ground and psychic type attacks thrown at :clodsire:.

:hydrapple::alomomola::skeledirge::blissey::clodsire::mandibuzz:
So after playing some games with this team, I found :toxapex: to be very good at it‘s job, but I couldn’t find enough opportunities to click my recovery moves due to bad matchups on :mandibuzz:, especially when hazards were up. So I made the switch to :alomomola:. :alomomola: provides wish support, trapping support and sometimes burn support. A great all around cleric.

3. The Team

:sv/skeledirge:
Charles (Skeledirge) (M) @ Leftovers
Ability: Unaware
Tera Type: Water/Fairy
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Def / 8 SpA
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Will-O-Wisp
- Torch Song
- Slack Off
- Roar

Skeledirge plays a vital role, being able to tank most setup sweepers physical hits, especially after a burn. Will-O-Wisp provides those oh-so-crucial burns, allowing mons like :excadrill: to go from a 2HKO to a 4HKO. Torch Song is its strongest STAB move. And before you say anything about Fire Blast, Overheat, or Flamethrower, please understand that Torch Song is one of the biggest snowballs in the game. Thanks for understanding. Moving on we have Slack Off, it‘s most reliable recover by another mother. This allows it to tank hits like a boss, and somehow getting fatter makes it have more HP, GameFreak what are you doing. Roar is a controversial choice over Hex, Shadow Ball, or Yawn, however I find it very good. Pokemon like :garchomp:, :roaring-moon:, :gouging-fire:, and the like who think that you can set-up on me get rolled away by the luxurious baritone that is Skeledirge. Another controversial choice is Leftovers > Heavy-duty Boots. And to that I say I have defog in the back with :mandibuzz:, :clodsire: can deal with TSpikes, and :blissey: can do whatever she wants. I chose Tera Water because it flips the matchup against the :ogerpon: triplets, and is generally pretty helpful. Tera Fairy is another option if you want a better :roaring-moon: check, but be wary of a stray iron head. Nickname is because Charles Aznavour (if you don’t know who he is ( 。 •̀ ᴖ •́ 。)).

:sv/hydrapple:
Squirmy Wyrm (Hydrapple) (F) @ Leftovers
Ability: Regenerator
Tera Type: Fire
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Def / 8 SpA
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Recover
- Yawn
- Fickle Beam/Dragon Pulse
- Grass Knot

The main man himself, :hydrapple:. He forms the second third of our FWG core, and the first half of our Regen core. Recover here is our spammable not-so-spammable recovery move if we can’t switch into :alomomola: or another ally. Yawn bc sleep go brrrrrrrrrrrr. But seriously yawn almost always causes a switch. The threat of yawn after it’s been revealed also forces them to sack a mon for recoverable damage or to switch to an unfavorable matchup, ruining there in-gam plans. Fickle Beam is there to deal damage, however dragon pulse deals more consistent damage and has more pp. Grass Know notably OHKOs :great-tusk:, and 2HKOs :garganacl:, who both can threaten all of my defensive core with high-powered STABS or Salt Cure respectively. Tera Fire allows it to flip the matchup on Fairy and Dragon types in a pinch, or you can Tera early if you don’t see any notable water type threats. Leftovers again because sometimes recovery moves aren’t always the best option, and I have ways to mitigate hazard damage, e.g. Wish, Heal Bell, Defog.

:bw/alomomola:
SUGAR MOMMY (Alomomola) @ Leftovers
Ability: Regenerator
Tera Type: Flying
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Def / 8 SpD
Bold Nature
- Wish
- Protect
- Flip Turn
- Scald

:alomomola: most notably provides tonnes of clerical support. Wish provides the highest pp recovery move in this game. And boosted by :alomomola:’s absurdly high HP stat. Protect allows for the wishes to come to :alomomola: and to scout moves. Flip Turn is good for wish passing, and provides the ever-desirable slow u-turn (sorta). Scald is chosen over whirlpool or mirror coat due to its secondary burn effect. 3 out of 10 uses will result in a burn, allowing for :hydrapple:, :skeledirge:, and :mandibuzz: to come in more times in the game. Tera Flying in case you get knocked off vs hstack. Leftovers for all the same reasons as the above. Notice: this is a LeftiesSpam team. The team name is an Easter Egg to another team I’m gonna post soon that got to the top 500 in DOU. It’s also a reference my favorite idol: Dami from Dreamcatcher.

:sv/clodsire:
Lord (Clodsire) (M) @ Black Sludge
Ability: Unaware
Tera Type: Grass
EVs: 248 HP / 8 Def / 252 SpD
Careful Nature
- Amnesia
- Recover
- Earthquake
- Stealth Rock

All hail the Heavenly Father, :clodsire:. Our Blessed Lord is back and better than ever. DLC2 brought a lot of new special attackers that require a new special check. Amnesia allows him to forget all his problems and become the true god of special defense. Recover provides an alternate form of recovery not called wish passing or sludge recovery. Earthquake is its most reliable STAB move, allowing him to 3HKO most special setup sweepers like :iron-valiant:, :iron-moth:, :iron-crown:, etc. I don’t have the specific calcs, but it is a very strong presence in the meta that hasn’t been very nice since and in the lead up to DLC1. Stealth Rock is our ace in the hole. This allows it to chip its check on the switch as it moves to its partners in crime. Tera Grass is here to remove the ground and water weaknesses, however tera’ing :clodsire: isn’t recommended. It’s part of a team for a reason. The nickname is because he’s our lord and savior.

:bw/blissey:
Blobfish (Blissey) @ Leftovers
Ability: Natural Cure
Tera Type: Poison/Dark
EVs: 248 HP / 8 SpA / 252 SpD
Calm Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Heal Bell
- Soft-Boiled
- Seismic Toss
- Shadow Ball

And now for everyone’s least favorite fatass, :blissey:. The pure bulk of this thing is insane. It can tank all unboosted special attacks, and quite a few physical attacks. Heal Bell is probably the most controversial move on this ‘mon, but it really helps the team against TSpikes and StatusSpam. Soft-Boiled is it’s recover from another mother, allowing it to stay healthy the whole game. Seismic Toss and Shadow Ball keep it strong against Taunt shenanigans, allowing it to deal consistent damage to all Pokémon in the meta. Tera Poison is here to soften the blows of physical pokemon, but Tera Dark is also useful for an emergency stored power check. With the nickname you would expect her to be a tera water mon. But it’s just becuase she’s an ugly pink blob.

:bw/mandibuzz:
Mandilorian (Mandibuzz) @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Overcoat
Tera Type: Psychic
EVs: 248 HP / 8 Def / 252 SpD
Calm Nature
- Roost
- Defog
- Knock Off
- Whirlwind

The female man is here to keep hazards at bay in the eternal hazard war. I chose to make :mandibuzz: a special wall to help ease the stress on :clodsire: and :blissey:. Roost is it’s recover from another mother, keeping it healthy throughout the match. Defog is the main reason she’s here, allowing her to keep the rest of the team healthy with hazards gone. Knock off helps us deal with :heavy-duty-boots: users. Whirlwind adds another phasing move to our arsenal, allowing us to keep sweepers on their toes. Tera psychic is here to change up our typing, while still letting us resist stored power. Honestly though, you’ll never Tera :mandibuzz:.

4. Threatlist
:damp-rock::smooth-rock::heat-rock:
Weather teams have the capability to deal massive damage if not dealt with through status and maneuvering.

:gholdengo::glimmora:
Hazardstack hurts, especially if they take out :mandibuzz: early.

:iron-valiant:
Mixed sets hurt if not dealt with, as they can OHKO blissey with close comba, and hurt other checks with moonblast.

:twisted-spoon:
Psyshock hurts on my special checks.

5. Pokepaste
٩(˘◡˘)۶

6. Conclusion
This team checks the majority of the meta, but there are some weak spots. Like my inability to pilot stall because, 1.I suck at the game, and 2.I’m very impatient. I need to get better, but any help is welcome. Thanks for reading this whole thing :psycry: .

Great team, got any replays?

also, have you considered messing around with perhaps lowering alomamolas seed for flip turn?

And how do you deal with gambit?

Sadly, no i keep forgetting to save replays :psysad: .

hmmmmm. thats an interesting idea.

And how do you deal with gambit?

To deal with gambit you gotta try to lure it out with skeledirge, as he almost always takes a hit from full, and can fire back with a burn. then try to keep skeledirge healthy with wishes, and use the physical regenerator core.

Hi! Very creative build. I made a Dipplin stall pre-dlc so I love the vision. As someone else pointed out, this team is woefully weak to Gambit but also to hazards and future sight. I recommend joining the stall discord if you want to learn some more stall building principles. I'm gonna try to keep most of the team members the same for the first edit and then give you my best shot at a Hydrapple stall viable for mid/high ladder.

First, here are the issues I'm going to attempt to solve.
- :gholdengo: Mandibuzz as a sole defogger is inadequate for any stall team (because it can not threaten Gholdengo) but especially one that chooses to forgo boots.
- :heavy-duty-boots: as I mentioned boots is really the best route for stall at the moment. The good stalls that have chosen to forgo boots on some mons also ran redundant hazard removal. I'm going to make most of the mons boots and try to add a knock-off absorber in Gliscor, Clefable, or Sticky Hold.
- :kingambit: you really have no way to handle SD Kingambit at all. It forces tera on Dirge and you want to be very flexible in your defensive tera with stall.
- :meowscarada: this goes along with the knock off and hazards issue, but meowscarada + hazards really runs through this team. There are very limited options for defensive teams to remedy this right now, but we will try to fix that.

So the first edit is going to be minimal but still address each of these issues as best as I can.

:skeledirge::hydrapple::alomomola::clodsire::blissey::mandibuzz:

So this keeps all the same mons but changes some sets/ev spreads/teras.

- :skeledirge: is marginally faster. This is to creep gambits creeping corv. Not the most relevant benchmark but it isn't much EV commitment
- :hydrapple: is running dragon tail over yawn for more effective phasing.
- :clodsire: is running physdef and counter to catch meow and gambit. It is also running spikes to make better use of Hydrapple's phasing.
- :blissey: is running cm + protect to be able to handle non-psyshock ghold and future sight. The no attacks set is not optimal at all but it's needed to keep no mon changes on this team.
- :mandibuzz: is running ID + Foul Play to handle gambit

Here's the second version which is my best shot at Hydrapple stall.
https://pokepast.es/235a5447e06a71f9
:hydrapple::alomomola::clodsire::blissey::gliscor::dondozo:

Sorry I don't have a ton of time to write this up but hopefully this works better. It's more conventional and definitely has more holes than what the best stallers are using, but hey, you're using hydrapple.

Thanks for submitting!

I feel like that’s a bit to weak an answer, especially since the hazard control on this team is weak, and skeledirge lacks boots, gambit can with some pretty easy active positioning break it and then start melting the team.

Also, there is not a single dragon resist, while as a whole dragon is quite a uncommon offensive type, a properly setup attacker tears this team apart, with stuff like gouging fire breaking this team a part with its outrages, or even dragon claws.

Still a really fun team, and have enjoyed paying with it, and probably will continue, but had some issues.
