Introduction

Back in the R/S/E days, and D/P/P days to a lesser extent, I used to be a fairly active competitive pokemon player. However, in B/W era I only played seldom, but recently my passion for competitive battles rekindled and I took some time to learn about the new metagame and pokemon. So this is the first "serious" team that I put some effort to create, please rate and thanks in advance!

The team

250px-450Hippowdon.png

Slowbro (Hippowdon) @ Leftovers
Trait: Sand Stream
EVs: 252 HP / 244 Def / 12 SpD
Impish Nature (+Def, -SpA)
- Earthquake
- Stealth Rock
- Slack Off
- Whirlwind

I see Tyranitar getting sky-high usage, but one should not forget about his Sand Stream pal: Even though it can't innovate much, Hippowdon is a monster when played correctly. You just can't take it down with normally effective physical hits unless you're heavily boosted. Sometimes I get him to even tank SE hits such as Watterfalls!

STAB Earthquake hits plenty of stuff hard even without any Atk EVs, but unfortunately I can't say the same about Ice Fang (which I found to only be useful in very specific situations). So I tested it with Whirlwind and found it much more useful in general. Stealth Rock is a must, and Slack Off is also default to enhance Hippowdon's defensive capacities.

220px-598Ferrothorn.png

Forretress (Ferrothorn) @ Leftovers
Trait: Iron Barbs
EVs: 252 HP / 88 Def / 168 SpD
Impish Nature (+Def, -SpA)
- Power Whip
- Spikes
- Thunder Wave
- Leech seed

The standard Ferrothorn. I don't even like Ferrothorn, but I just couldn't find a better pokemon to fulfil its role. He's my shield against water types that cause problems to Hippowdon and also against the legion of Dragons locking himselfs into Outrage.

Tested it with Gyro Ball and found Power whip to more useful and to generally hit harder neutrally. Spikes to complement Hippo's SR, and Good grief, I never thought a powerful pokemon such as Ferrothorn would exist AND learn both Thunder Wave and Leech Seed! With the right prediction, I cripple everything that switches in to check Ferrothorn.

210px-130Gyarados.png

Dragonair (Gyarados) @ Leftovers
Trait: Intimidate
EVs: 176 HP / 128 Atk / 204 Spe
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SpA)
- Taunt
- Dragon Dance
- Waterfall
- Stone Edge

I like using TankGya so much that I named him after my favorite pokemon. He's the final part of my team's defensive core, and one old friend of mine (Used him a lot in D/P/P days). His job's description says he's here to check fire types that can cause trouble to both Hippo and Ferro, but with dragon dance and taunt, sometimes he ends up just sweeping a whole unprepared team for me.

Taunt works wonders, even though sometimes Gya wishes he were faster. Dragon Dance is a must and Waterfall is the most adequate STAB. Stone miss was included because I think no other move gives better coverage, but damn, the misses do suck...

landorus-incarnate.jpg

Tornadus (Landorus Incarnate) @ Life Orb
Trait: Sheer Force
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Modest Nature (+SpA, -Atk)
- Earth Power
- Focus Blast
- Hidden Power Ice
- Rock Polish

It would be a waste not to take advantage of Hippo's Sand Stream, So I Decided for Landorus in his Incarnate form. I love playing with him. With the right prediction, he can scout with the excellent U-Turn, launch powerful Sand-Force-boosted Earthquakes and Stone Misses, and when they think they finally checked it, here comes the HP ice to obliterate things that can avoid the other stuff it throws easily. He also check some stat-boosting pokemon for me thanks to choice scarf.

300px-485Heatran.png

Magcargo (Heatran) @ Leftovers
Trait: Flash Fire
EVs:
248 HP / 252 SpD / 8 Spe
Calm Nature (+SpD, -Atk)
- Lava Plume
- Substitute
- Toxic
- Hidden Power Grass

Substitute is quite possibly the best move in the game, So I just couldn't afford to make a team without it. I love this set because it's really easy and effective: Substitute upon an obvious switch and then proceed to either hurt stuff with the powerful STAB Fire Blast (I love 2HKO'ing even resisting pokemon with Fire Blast after Flash Fire's activation) and *insert coverage move here*, or cripple bulky waters and other stuff with Toxic.

The "insert coverage move here" thing was because i'm considering changing Earth Power. As much as it's an excellent move and goes generally well with Fire Blast, it allows opposing Heatrans with Air Balloon to check me completely. Open for suggestions!

280px-381Latios.png

Golduck (Latios) @ Life Orb
Trait: Levitate
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature (+Spe, -Atk)
- Surf
- Draco Meteor
- Hidden Power Fire
- Psyshock

Here is where I tried to be somewhat original. I love Latios, but just attaching a Choice Specs to him and proceed to spam Draco Meteors don't appeal to me. So I came up with this offensive Calm Mind set with Expert Belt, which is an item I really like. Calm Mind allows me to boost Latios already great SpA and then throw a REALLY powerfull Draco meteor without getting locked or very crippled offensively afterwards. Psyshock was considered for change, but I found it to be really effective OHKO'ing many dangerous fighting pokemon.

About Hidden Power, I know Fire is considered to be superior, but i'm really tired of those damn Tyranitars switching in and Pursuiting. With HP fighting I can at least do my forty-something percent damage to then. I hope Game Freak put Latios in a Dojo in order to learn Close Combat for gen VI...

Biggest Threats

I checked about the threats and I think my team has a decent sinergy in general. Ice is the attacking type that generates more problems, but i'm not completely unarmed against it since Ferrothorn checks water pokemon with ice moves and Heatran check most Ice pokemon well. The only time I got completely screwed when playing with this team was when a Sawsbuck got one Swords Dance in the sun. Boom... but I guess that's not really common in OU.

So, that's it. Thanks for reading. I hope you guys liked, please keep in mind that i'm a little rusted and just came back to competitive battling!

Suggestions and comments will be highly appreciated, see ya!

Hi! This is a very nice team!
But I have a little idea; what about give Latios the Scarf and playing him with Draco Meteor, Hidden Power Fire/Fighting, Surf, Trick?
And give Landorus the expert Belt, and play him with Rock Polish, Earth Power, Focus Blast, Hidden Power Ice, with an 4 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd EV-Spread.

Hope this idea might help you!
DarkGira

Edit: Band/Scarf/Life-Orb Mamoswine might be also an big threat, it OHKO/2HKO nearly the whole team with the dual stabs + Stone Edge/Superpower.

Hi there! First off, thank you! I will test the team with the changes you suggested and will give feedback on it later. Any suggestions for Heatran's coverage move? Do you think Earth Power does the trick for this set?

I had problems with Mamoswine several times, indeed. But he never got to screw me completely. If anyone has suggestions about this weakness, please post!

I guess a quick fix for the mamoswine problem would be hidden power grass on heatran in exchange for earth power. Your team checks opposing heatrans just fine.

Hello UFO Swarm, nice team.

This is a very well presented team and it also seems to be very solid as well! I see some flaws that this team has and hopefully my rate can iron out those flaws, help this team improve and reach it's full potential. With that said, let's get to the rate. Alright, to start things off, I would recommend running a Rock Polish set on your Landorus in place of your current one. Rock Polish Landorus is a very dangerous sweeper if it can get a Rock Polish up then devastate with it's Sheer Force boosted moves. Moving forward, I would like to recommend changing Heatrans EV spread to one of 248 HP / 252 SpD / 8 Spe and a Calm Nature over your current EV spread and Nature. With it's excellent ability, solid base 106 Defenses and a great set of resistances, Heatran makes for an effective special wall for balanced teams like these. Staying on Heatran, I would recommend using Lava Plume over your current choice of Fire Blast. Lava Plume is an excellent move for Heatran, as it's 30% burn rate helps it shrug off most physical attacks that would otherwise KO it. Up next on Latios, I would like to suggest running Surf and Hidden Power Fire over your current choices of Calm Mind and Hidden Power Fighting. Surf remedies your Mamoswine problem in a way as Ice Shard cannot KO while Surf KO's easily while also being useful against Volcarona and Infernape. Hidden Power Fire helps out against opposing steel types, such as Ferrothorn, Scizor and Forretress. Well, that's all I have to say for now. I hope my advice helped. Have fun and good luck with your team!

~Dr Ciel~ (The doctor is OUT)

HI, Dr Ciel! Thank you very much for such a detailed explanation and suggestions. I just tested the team with the changes you, DarkGiratina and Ninetale3 indicated and I could perceive much improvement. Even when I lost, it was to very good players and never by a large margin. My team is solid and as far as I saw there's no huge weakness to a particular threat like there was before with Mamoswine. Edited all the changes!

If anyone wants to give further suggestions, feel free to do so!

Hey cool team, you've a lot of common threats well covered so my rate will just be a few smaller changes.

First I recommend replacing HP Fire for Recover on Latios. Latios is your primary check to Keldeo but it will be very easily worn down due to its rather low defense and the threat of Keldeo's powerful Stabs. Recover allows you to switch into Keldeo with less worry as you can heal off the damage Latios has accumulated. I believe its best over HP Fire because its coverage is actually less needed. Draco Meteor is Stab and Psyshock is there to beat Keldeo so it was between Surf and HP Fire. One of Keldeo's most common partners is Tyranitar due to it being able to Pursuit trap many of Keldeo's checks and counters. Latios' Surf when paired with your entry hazards is more than enough deterrent for Tyranitar and the common Scizor switch-in who risks being 2HKO'd by the Surf with SR and Spikes.

I would actually like to recommend replacing Gyarados. I know you seem to have a lot of fondness for it but I don't really see what it brings to the table especially considering you lack a proper Revenge Killer. Balanced teams such as yours can get into a lot of trouble against a team that carries multiple sweepers. You may think your not Terrakion weak because Hippowdon walls it but what if Hippowdon also has to wall Lucario? This is a very quick example but it shows that teams that primarily rely on defensive checks tend to need one solid "catch-all" offensive check. A Pokemon who can come in once a threat has set-up and revenge it, allowing your defensive backbone to survive. Because of this I suggest replacing Gyarados with Choice Scarf Keldeo. Keldeo is considered one of, if not the, best Choice Scarf'd revenge killers in the metagame and its not hard to see why. Not only can it revenge pretty much everything but it can also perform mini-sweeps of its own late-game.

Finally I suggest running Earth Power over Hidden Power Grass on Heatran. HP Grass is a relic of DPP, when Swampert was much more common. It really doesn't have a place in BW2 OU. With Earth Power your Heatran isn't total enemy Heatran bait, and can properly take them out.

Good Luck!

Hey UFO Swarm!

My only beef with this neat team is that it's pretty weak to common priority attackers and has quite a bit of trouble getting through Chansey. Mamoswine and Techniloom literally OHKO at least 4/6 of your team while your only resists are quite frail. Gyarados is actually a wonderful check to both Mamoswine and Breloom, but it's easily worn down by Stealth Rock. The first thing that comes to mind to keep Gyarados as healthy as possible throughout entire battles is to replace Ferrothorn with Forretress, who plays similar roles. Although you do miss out on a 3rd water resistance, I feel like two should be fine especially with my next suggestion. Anyway, Forretress provides Rapid Spin support, Spikes, a dragon resist, and a steel STAB (not like that's important though). This will keep Gyarados healthy longer and increase both its switching and staying potential. Here's the set:
205.png
(F) @ Leftovers
Trait: Sturdy
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SDef
Sassy Nature (+SDef, -Spd)
- Spikes
- Rapid Spin
- Gyro Ball
- Pain Split / Volt Switch
I feel like a specially defensive set fits your team best so that it can actually switch into Lati@s. Otherwise, Ferrothorn would be superior in that situation. The last slot is a bit odd. Pain Split helps you continuously switch into Draco Meteors as long as you heal back up and can be quite useful against stall teams to keep your spinner alive longer. Volt Switch grabs momentum, but seeing as you're using a balanced team, I don't think that's as important as staying power. The fact that you lost Thunder Wave is a key point in my persuasion for the next change on Gyarados.

Gyarados will find a lot of stress having to switch into Mamoswine and other priority attackers like Scizor often, especially with Stealth Rock, so I think it's important that it has solid recovery. It technically is your only answer to both SD Scizor and Mamoswine, so even with Rapid Spin support, a change is in order. Try out a defensive RestTalk variant with Rest / Sleep Talk / Waterfall / Roar. This allows you to switch into Mamoswine literally all you want (unless it's the rare Stone Edge variant) and heal off any damage you take. It also functions brilliantly as sleep fodder for Breloom along with a perfect switch into all forms of Scizor. Roar makes up for the switch from Ferrothorn to Forretress and stops dangerous setup sweepers like DDNite. To make it as bulky as possible, use an EV spread of 248 HP / 252 Def / 8 SDef with an Impish nature. Although this isn't a direct answer to Breloom, once you use it as sleep fodder, you can switch into Latios or Landorus to OHKO it. Roar also abuses your Stealth Rock and Spikes, which is another plus. EDIT: Rest is nice because it allows you to switch into Scald all you want and ignore burns. Here's what it should look like:
130.png
(F) @ Leftovers
Trait: Intimidate
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Def / 8 SDef
Impish Nature (+Def, -SAtk)
- Waterfall
- Rest
- Roar
- Sleep Talk

The problem now is that your only hard hitters are special, so Chansey (and other special walls) can do quite a bit of work. Although Sheer Force Landorus certainly is a good sweeper, I feel like a Choice Scarf set would work better with your team. It provides you with a revenge killer as well as a hard hitter on the physical side, forcing out Chansey switches so it can take hazard damage later on. It always 2HKOs Chansey after Stealth Rock + sand damage, so it's relatively reliable. Here's the set:
645.png
(M) @ Choice Scarf
Trait: Sand Force
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SAtk / 252 Spd
Naive Nature (+Spd, -SDef)
- Earthquake
- Hidden Power [Ice]
- Stone Edge
- U-turn

*Make sure it has an IV spread of 30/31/30/31/31/31

Other than that, the team looks solid! Nice job! Good luck~
