Free Birds

Hello again! I'm back with another version of my Free Birds team. The team that was built previously peaked pretty low and I figured it could use a nice change. So here we are with a new and improved Mega Pidgeot team! Feel free to leave any comments down below.

The Team

pidgeot-mega.gif

Pidgeot @ Pidgeotite
Ability: Big Pecks
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Hurricane
- Heat Wave
- U-turn
- Roost

The centerpiece of the team, the Mega that I built the team around: Bird Jesus. Not only does this act as the late game cleaner for the team, it is one of my many ground switch-ins and takes advantage of U-Turn to pivot into one of the other many checks on the team. Hurricane is the main STAB for Pidgeot, taking on the likes of Tangrowth and Keldeo. Heat Wave is there to check Steel types that don't take a whole lot of damage from Hurricane, such as Ferrothorn or Mega Metagross. U-Turn helps pivot out while Roost can help Pidgeot heal off any damage it may have taken. The EV Spread is recommend for the All-Out Attacker set so that it may speed-tie with Tornadus-T, as well as outspeeding Starmie, Keldeo, Scarf Magnezone, and many others.

Rotom-Wash @ Sitrus Berry
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 HP / 36 Def / 220 Spe
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Will-O-Wisp
- Thunder Wave
- Hydro Pump
- Volt Switch

The best pivot in the OU metagame and the staple of any Bulky Offense team, Rotom-Wash. Rotom-W primarily serves as a bird-counter, ground immunity, and defensive pivot. The EV spread was recommended so that I can outspeed Bisharp and either Will-o-Wisp it or Volt Switch on it. However, there is a noticeable decrease in bulk. However, the team is made to act fast and Rotom-W is simply a pivot. Will-o-Wisp is Rotom-W's best move, allowing it to burn the likes of Excadrill, Bisharp, and other Rotom-Wash's. Thunder Wave is oddly paired with Will-o-Wisp, as it allows Rotom to paralyze Heatran and Talonflame on the predicted Will-o-Wisp, as well as crippling most Scarfer's bar Excadrill in order for Pokemon who may not outspeed. This also allows Pidgeot to avoid the speed tie with Tornadus-Therian. Hydro Pump is decent STAB on Rotom and can 2HKO Landorus-Therian on the switch-in, as well as Excadrill. Volt-Switch is Rotom's pivoting move that allows it to switch into one of the many other threats on the team.

Latios @ Life Orb
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Draco Meteor
- Psyshock
- Defog
- Recover

Life Orb Latios is my choice for my Fire, Water, and Grass resist for the team. It's main role is to switch in on a plethora of Poke's such as Mega Venusaur, Keldeo, and Charizard-Y and drop a very powerful Draco to put a dent in the opponent's team so that one of the many other strong Poke's can come in and clean house. The EV spread is recommended for the Life Orb Attacker set, hitting 350 speed and 359 Special Attack, making for a very fast and strong Dragon. Draco Meteor is Latios' strongest STAB move, and can put a huge dent in anything that isn't named Chansey or Jirachi. Psyshock is chosen to help take on Specially Defensive Walls, such as Chansey and AV Tangrowth. Defog is chosen to help remove hazards for Pidgeot and the other pivots, who are constantly switching out. Recover is there to help Latios heal off any damage it may have taken, but Surf is never a bad option. However, Latios loses out on recovery and keeping Latios late-game can sometimes make all the difference.

Jirachi @ Leftovers
Ability: Serene Grace
EVs: 252 HP / 224 SpD / 32 Spe
Careful Nature
- Stealth Rock
- U-turn
- Iron Head
- Healing Wish

Jirachi is my prime Lati@s and Fairy switch-in, as well as my Stealth-Rocker. While this Pokemon is Pursuit Bait, the EV's given help Jirachi outpace Jolly Tyranitar and U-Turn or Iron Head. The rest of the EV's are into bulk to help take on Clefable, Latios, Mega Diancie, and Mega Venusaur. Stealth Rock is there to help set hazards for the opponents and chip away at their health in order for Pokemon like Landorus or Pidgeot to clean up. U-Turn helps Jirachi pivot out on the Magnezone or Bisharp switch in, and come into another threat. Iron Head is used to take on Mega Diancie, and (as haxy as it is) flinch the opponent's slower Pokemon, which can be a huge game-changer. Healing Wish can be used to not only get a safe switch-in to a Pokemon, but heal it up all of the way, which can also be a huge game-changer, especially if Landorus is burnt or Pidgeot is paralyzed.

Landorus-Therian @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Knock Off
- U-turn
- Earthquake
- Stone Edge

Scarf Landorus-Therian is chosen as yet another pivot and my check to Physical Attackers, such as opposing Landorus-Therian's, Tyranitar, and Mega Scizor. The EV's chosen help maximize Landorus-Therian's Attack and Speed. Knock Off is chosen to help remove opponents' items, such as a Choice Scarf, Leftovers, or Eviolite. U-Turn is used as yet another pivot move to switch Landorus out into another Pokemon that can counter whatever switches into Landorus-Therian's U-Turn. The Edge-Quake combo is used to take on most of the standard that isn't named Skarmory.

keldeo-resolute.gif

Keldeo-Resolute @ Choice Specs
Ability: Justified
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Scald
- Hydro Pump
- Icy Wind
- Secret Sword

Last but not least, Specs Keldeo is the prime Dark switch-in and strong Special Attacker. The EV's and Nature are chosen to maximize Keldeo's power and speed. Scald is the most spammable move on this Pokemon and can cause burns on Keldeo's switch-in's such as Tangrowth or Mega Venusaur. Hydro is used to help 2HKO Starmie and other switch-in's that wouldn't take as much from Scald. Icy Wind helps slow some of Keldeo's switch-ins, and allows Keldeo to outspeed most Scarf abusers and any Pokemon that fall in the Speed tier of 110 or higher. Secret Sword is one of Keldeo's strongest STAB moves and allows Keldeo to hit Chansey and other Special Defense Walls.

Threats
images
Magnezone: Namely, the Specs set. If predicted right, a Flash Cannon can leave a huge dent in Landorus-Therian. Furthermore, Magnezone traps Jirachi and, if Choice Scarfed, can outspeed. However, this Pokemon doesn't threaten the team a whole lot outside of that.

Politoed_icon.png
+
Kingdra_icon.png
Rain Team: Namely, Kingdra. Kingdra's power and coverage while under rain can really threaten this team. With Swift Swim, Kingdra outspeeds EVERYTHING on this team and can destroy any switch-in with either Draco Meteor or Scald. Luckily, Kingdra is not seen a whole bunch outside of rain teams or the low ladder.

637.png
Volcarona: Namely, the Quiver Dance set. Once in a while, this Pokemon comes around and, if played well, can toss a team like the one shown above onto it's back. After one Quiver Dance, Volcarona outspeeds Pidgeot and can fire off a STAB Fire Blast and OHKO it. However, Landorus-Therian outspeeds at +1 and can OHKO with Stone Edge.

images
Gengar: Namely, the Scarf set. While Gengar has lost a lot of popularity, Choice Scarf Gengar or Will-o-Hex Gengar is a pretty big threat to this team. The move that can take it out is coming from Latios, which is OHKO'd by Status-boosted Hex. Scarf Gengar also outspeeds the entire team and can carry Icy Wind for Landorus or Pidgeot. However, Gengar is not popular in the meta at this time and is easily checked by Keldeo if it is played well enough.

latest
Omastar/Cloyster: Namely, the Shell Smash set. Neither of these Pokemon are very popular in this meta either, but, after a Shell Smash, These two pose quite a threat. The Shell Smash set for Omastar (Smash, HP Grass, Scald/Hydro, Ice Beam) can put a hamper in the team's momentum. Luckily, this Pokemon is VERY uncommon and is outsped by Landorus-T at +2.

445-mega.png
Mega Garchomp: Namely, the Swords Dance set. Once in a Blue Moon, this Pokemon appears on a newer player's Sand or Sticky Web team. With MegaChomp's power and coverage, However, it can have a move for just about anything on the team. Luckily, Any Levitaters on the team bar Rotom do outspeed and can stop MegaChomp in its tracks. Inclusively, this Pokemon is very uncommon in today's meta.

Good seeing that you implemented your team. Yet again, I've to suggest that you use Stall Breaker > AoA Pidgeot for the sake of not being totally outclassed by Tornadus-T and also give an amazingly easy Match-up vs common stall on the 1450+ ladder (Seriously, Stall Breaker Pidgeot is ridiculously easy to win vs Stall). Other suggestion about Latios, Run 29 IVs on HP and Surf > Psyshock. The IVs maximize your hits with Life Orb, and Surf is a personal preference, But it can prevent your Latio from being totally anemic against Magnezone. About EVs, run 248 HP EVs on your Jirachi and Rotom to take minimum damage from Stealth Rock. That's all I can say for now, can't give the sets right now.

Hey HappyHoopa05, thanks for the suggestions! This time around, I might run Stall Breaker Pidgeot since I do have 3 other Pokemon with Volt Switch or U-Turn, as well as a better matchup vs. Steel Types. For Latios, I would remove Recover > Surf so that I don't lose to Mag, but Psyshock is near necessary for my Keldeo or other Fighting-Type matchup. And Jirachi and Rotom.. the EV's for Rotom's HP will change for sure, but Jirachi resists rocks so I thought it would take less as is if we ran 252 HP.

Thanks again for the suggestions and I'll be sure to implement them :]
