ORAS OU Frog Be Gone

Note: This team was built for the Greninja suspect ladder. It should function very similarly to how it did on the suspect ladder after Greninja is banned.

Double Note: This team was built by P0kem3n and I.

Teambuilding Process

The team started out with the core of Keldeo/Jirachi, both of these mons function extremely well in the OU metagame, especially with Greninja gone.

Next, SD Talonflame was added. Talonflame was added because the resurgence of Fairy types allows Talonflame to set up on mons like Clefable and Sylveon.

After Talonflame, a perfect mon to compliment Talonflame was Landorus-I. A Stealth Rock set with three attacks really supported the team well with its sheer power and good speed it was a great addition to the team.

Talonflame is on the team, therefore we needed some kind of hazard support. A water-type with hazard removal was perfect for the team. With access to Haze, Tentacruel made a great compliment to the rest of the team, thus far.

Finally, Mega-Altaria was added to the team. The only reason why Mega-Altaria was added is because I wanted to use it.

After some games, Mega-Charizard-X was added to the team. Charizard was added because fast electric types with ice coverage was a problem for the team. Charizard completely patches up that weakness.

The Team
647-r.png

Keldeo @ Expert Belt
Ability: Justified
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk / 30 Def
- Hydro Pump
- Scald
- Secret Sword
- Hidden Power [Ice]

Expert Belt Keldeo is extremely good in the current meta. The ability to switch up moves and hit things like Heatran and Chansey on the physical side is extremely powerful. Additionally, many people will think that Keldeo is choice because they will not see an item, therefore people will switch on the assumption that you are choiced and then you can catch them by surprise.

385.png

Jirachi @ Leftovers
Ability: Serene Grace
EVs: 252 HP / 152 Atk / 104 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Substitute
- Toxic
- Iron Head
- Fire Punch

This Jirachi is the epitome of annoying. This Jirachi can switch in to the Latis and into Fairies and set up a substitute. Not to mention, it can sub on Ferrothorn and 2HKO with Fire Punch. This Jirachi is just a general nuisance to any team. The only Pokemon that completely counters this Jirachi is Heatran. Including being able to wear down other walls with toxic, it is a perfect addition to any OU team. 104 speed insures that you can outspeed fully invested base 80s.

talonflame.png

Talonflame @ Leftovers
Ability: Gale Wings
EVs: 128 HP / 252 Atk / 128 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Swords Dance
- Brave Bird
- Flare Blitz
- Roost

Talonflame was added because of the new resurgence of Fairies. Talonflame is used to set up on mons like Clefable and Sylveon very effectively. This spread is used to Outspeed any Adamant Talonflame and KO with +2 Brave Bird. Obviously, Talonflame is also a very effective revenge killer and is one of the best mons for the job.

645.png

Landorus @ Life Orb
Ability: Sheer Force
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Stealth Rock
- Earth Power
- Sludge Wave
- Focus Blast

Landorus was the perfect fit for the team. It's immunities to Ground and Electric is very nice for switching in. Also, with access to Stealth Rock, Landorus also provides our team with support. Finally, with access to great coverage options and Sheer Force, Landorus hits extremely hard and is capable of sweeping late game with his great speed stat. Finally 0 attack IVs are used for minimal Foul Play damage.

073.png

Tentacruel @ Black Sludge
Ability: Liquid Ooze
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Scald
- Rapid Spin
- Haze
- Ice Beam

After Talonflame, it was clear that the team needed hazard support. Tentacruel being a water type and having access to Haze and Rapid Spin was the best option. Tentacruel can take on many different mons and fish for the Scald burn. Also, with access to Haze, Tentacruel can take on many set-up sweepers and neutralize them as a threat. However, if one should need a good Haze using water type, I strongly recommend Milotic over Tentacruel because of recovery and general bulk.

charizard-mega-x.png

Charizard @ Charizardite X
Ability: Blaze
EVs: 248 HP / 32 Atk / 188 SpD / 40 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Will-O-Wisp
- Roost
- Earthquake
- Dragon Claw

As some of you may recall, this is pokeaim's set. I enjoy this spread more than any other SpDef Zard spread. I this set was added for switching into fast Electric types and Rotom-W. Before adding Zard, Mega-Manectric and Raikou put in a lot work against the team, but after this addition we had a great switch-in.

Threat List
  • Red indicates a very big threat to the team that is relatively hard to handle.
  • Orange indicates a pretty big threat that can break the team if given the opportunity.
  • Green indicates a neutral threat that some members of the team struggle with.
azumarill.png

Azumarill
If given the opportunity to Belly Drum with Tentacruel gone, Azumarill has serious potential to sweep.

gengar.png

Gengar
Life Orb Gengar is a bit of a problem for the team mostly because of it's speed. It is guaranteed to get a big hit off on something and has potential to sweep late-game.

gyarados.png

Gyarados
Depending on the set, Gyarados has a potential to sweep with a few Dragon Dances if it can OHKO Tentacruel.

kyurem-black.png

Kyurem-Black
Kyurem-Black is always threatening with it's impeccable coverage. With it's decent speed it has a potential to sweep if Keldeo is gone.

mamoswine.png

Mamoswine
Has a potential to sweep late game if the team is worn down.

metagross-mega.png

Mega-Metagross
With Mega-Metagross' great speed, it is very threatening late game especially if it is carrying bullet punch.

terrakion.png

Terrakion
Has a potential to sweep because of it's great speed and high attack.

excadrill.png

SAND
The team has no sure-fire way to beat sand other than Keldeo, it requires a lot of playing around and stalling out sand.

Thank you for checking out the RMT! Please let me know what you think!

Hey. I like the look of your team. Here are a few suggestions for it:

-To help with the threat of Sand, I'd suggest replacing Landorus-I with Landorus-T. Lando-T is one of the best checks to sand thanks to Intimidate and it can come in multiple times if defensive, while also being able to set up rocks like Lando-I. I don't think it would take away from your team, but you know your team better.

Landorus-Therian @ Leftovers
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 240 HP / 252 Def / 8 SpD / 8 Spd or 248 HP / 152 Def / 108 Spd (to outspeed Jolly Tar and Adamant Bish)
Impish Nature
-Stealth Rock
-Earthquake
-Stone Edge
-U-Turn

-I'd suggest replacing HP [Ice] with Icy Wind on Keldeo to slow down Lati switch-in's and potentially 2HKO them if they have been weakened.

-Acid Spray > Ice Beam on Tentacruel to 1v1 Mega Sableye and eventually force it out. Also it's good for CM Clefable.

-I'd give Talonflame a spread of 88 HP / 252 Atk / 168 Spd to outspeed Raikou and Thundurus so you can kill them with Flare Blitz. If you want, you can give it Sharp Beak to magnify Brave Bird's power.

Hope this helps.

Hey man, this is a really solid team; but I have a few suggestions.

First off, I would definitely change talonflames set to the one suggested above, and sharp beak is really important to achieve some crucial 2hkos and OHKOs.

Next, I suggest giving Tentacruel a more specially defensive ev spread of 240 HP / 252 SpD / 16 Spe with a calm nature. This spread outspeeds adamant bisharp and is used to better handle Gengar, a massive threat to balance teams such as yours; and replacing ice beam with Acid Spray. This move is crucial to be able to defeat cm clefable and mega sableye 1v1, as it is much less passive than haze which can also be stopped by taunt. I also strongly suggest replacing haze with knock off, a great way to cripple switch ins and bop Gengar.

I'm not too sure how tank Charizard X fits on your team, as it is generally best on full stall teams, and you lack a win condition - you could either change Keldeo to Sub CM or change Zard to DD, both would work.

Hope I helped!
