Iron Defense + Body Press (Magnezone) @ Leftovers

[SET COMMENTS]

Magnezone fulfils a niche role in the tier, being able to effectively trap most relevant Steel-types, although its usage is hindered by its inability to trap common Steel-types such as Gholdengo and Heatran. Iron Defense and Body Press are used in conjunction in order to take down Kingambit, Melmetal and Ferrothorn with ease when coupled with Magnet Pull, greatly helping teammates who struggle with them such as Kyurem and Mega Latios. Thunderbolt or Discharge is used in order to hit Corviknight and Skarmory, with the former doing increased damage to neutral targets, notably securing a 2HKO on Mega Medicham switching in on Body Press, while the latter has an increased paralysis chance, potentially allowing Magnezone to get more hits off. Magnet Rise is used in order to near guarantee beating Melmetal as it provides Magnezone an immunity to Earthquake, while Substitute can be used to take advantage of passive foes such as Ferrothorn and Alomomola and set up on them. Leftovers is used to increase Magnezones general longevity while Max Defense is used in order to maximise Body Press's damage.

Magnezone fits primarily on bulky offense teams, where its ability to trap opposing steel types is greatly enjoyed. Teammates that appreciate this include Dragon-types such as Mega Latios and Raging Bolt, as well as Psychic-types such as Tapu Lele and Hatterene, with Raging Bolt in particular appreciating Magnezone trapping its best answer in Ferrothorn, letting it often run amok. In return, all 4 of them can help against Fighting-types such as Zamazenta and Great Tusk for Magnezone. Another good teammate is Great Tusk, who enjoys Magnezone trapping Corviknight, Ferrothorn and Skarmory for it, while in return it can threaten Electric-types such as Raging Bolt and Tapu Koko who Magnezone would otherwise be inable to hit well. Since Magnezone finds itself vulnerable to Ground-type foes such as Landorus-T, Great Tusk and Gliscor, Flying-type teammates such as Zapdos and Moltres help a lot, with Magnezone in return providing a soft check into strong special attackers such as Tapu Koko. Magnezone is also threatened by faster Fire-types such as Heatran, Volcarona and Cinderace, meaning switch-ins such as Toxapex and Alomomola are appreciated defensively, with the former being able to shut down setup sweepers who would use Magnezone as setup fodder such as Volcarona and IDBP Zamazenta with Haze. Due to Magnezones inability to trap Gholdengo, Ground-types such as Gliscor, Ting-Lu and Great tusk all make excellent teammates.

Magnezone fulfils a niche role in the tier, being able to effectively trap most relevant Steel-types. It's really important here that we mention that Magnezone can't trap Gholdengo and Offensive Heatran, which is a major hinderance to it and a large part of why its not more common. Iron Defense and Body Press are used in conjunction in order to take down Kingambit, Melmetal and Ferrothorn with ease when coupled with Magnet Pull, greatly helping teammates who struggle with them such as Kyurem and Mega Latios. Teammates that appreciate this include Dragon-types such as Mega Latios and Raging Bolt, as well as Psychic-types such as Tapu Lele and Hatterene. In return, all 3 of them can beat Fighting-types such as Zamazenta and Great Tusk for Magnezone. Just edit this so Raging Bolt fits, really cool partner for it since you can just dominate a lot of Ferrothorn teams. Another good teammate is Great Tusk, who enjoys Magnezone trapping Corviknight, Ferrothorn and Skarmory for it, while in return it can threaten Electric-types such as Raging Bolt and Tapu Koko. Why does threatening Electric-types matter? Since Magnezone finds itself vulnerable to Ground-type foes such as Landorus-T, Great Tusk and Gliscor, Flying-type teammates such as Zapdos and Moltres help a lot, with Magnezone in return providing a soft check into strong special attackers such as Tapu Lele This set is not a Lele check at all and Tapu Koko.

You absolutely have to mention Gholdengo counterplay here somewhere, as this sets inability to pressure Ghold is a big problem.

This feels a bit filler, are there any calcs that tbolt gets that make it preferred? Magnet Rise is used in order to near guarantee beating Melmetal as it provides Magnezone an immunity to Earthquake, while Substitute can be used to take advantage of passive foes such as Ferrothorn and Alomomola and set up on them. Leftovers is used to increase Magnezones general longevity while Max Defense is used in order to maximise Body Press's damage while also helping against Melmetals Earthquake. Zone does not survive Melm EQ with this spread

Could probably mention tisk again here too, or just combine this sentence with the tusk sentence since they all like corv and skarm out of the picture at least
