Ever since Froslass was moved up to OU my UU team was never quite the same, I couldn't find the same niche I had previously and so I just gave up on UU altogether and started battling OU. Anyway, I didn't really think to check to see if its tier had changed after X&Y came out until this week when I found out it was actually moved down to RU. So, I threw a team together and have found some decent success. There are errors and I would like to get them fixed, so help in any way you can! Here we gooooooo...
Froslass (F) @ Focus Sash
Ability: Cursed Body
EVs: 252 Spd / 252 SAtk / 4 Atk
Hasty Nature
- Ice Beam
- Shadow Ball
- Ice Shard
- Destiny Bond
I love this thing. It's one of the best suicide pokemon in the game, with enough firepower to deliver good chunks of damage plus great speed that can lay down a destiny bond to eliminate any slower, bulky threats. I'm pretty content with the moveset, I have ice shard to get rid of quick threats that only survived because of a focus sash, but if there is a better move for that slot please let me know. (Just not spikes or anything because her purpose isn't to set up, just take pokemon out)
Hitmonlee (M) @ Normal Gem
Ability: Unburden
EVs: 252 Spd / 252 Atk / 4 HP
Adamant Nature
- Fake Out
- Close Combat
- Blaze Kick
- Stone Edge
After fake out, Hitmonlee becomes a 546 speed 327 attacking monster. Though it lacks any kind of bulk, it can do quite a number on a team. He's my most commonly-used lead unless someone else on the team would do better depending on the opponent.
I'm debating on whether to keep stone edge or to replace it with earthquake, let me know what you think.
Delphox
Ability: Magician
EVs: 252 Spd / 252 SAtk / 4 HP
Timid Nature
- Heat Wave
- Psychic
- Grass Knot
- Calm Mind
I think it Delphox is my favorite starter from gen 6. Magician can really break teams. Pokemon that depend on their items (choice-users, assault vest, leftovers, etc.) are nerfed instantly and it becomes much easier to take them out. Plus, I can take advantage of the item obtained. I might get a toxic or flame orb in the process, but it's better than the opponent having it. Grass knot is for water coverage, calm mind is to bulk up a bit if I think my opponent is going to switch.
Note: when team building I like to have each Pokemon so that I'm confident are capable of sweeping on their own. Not necessarily a full 6-poke team, but at least manage 3 if needed. Delphox doesn't really fit the bill there, so I am open to replacing him (preferably with another fire type or strong special attacker)
Blastoise @ Blastoisinite
Ability: Rain Dish
EVs: 252 SAtk / 252 HP / 4 SDef
Modest Nature
- Water Pulse
- Aura Sphere
- Dark Pulse
- Rapid Spin
One of my favorite megas in this tier. It doubles as a spinner and bulky special sweeper. Water pulse also gives the chance of confusion so that helps. I don't really know what else to say about him, he goes it, can take hits, and hits hard.
Metagross @ Air Balloon
Ability: Clear Body
EVs: 252 Atk / 252 HP / 4 SDef
Adamant Nature
- Bullet Punch
- Meteor Mash
- Zen Headbutt
- Earthquake
One of my go-to's for Gen 5 OU. I was pretty surprised to see he was knocked down. Any way just a basic set, bullet punch to hit first, Meteor mash and Zen headbutt for STAB and Earthquake for coverage. Its role is to just go in and take out Pokemon. If its attack gets raised from meteor mash... woooo, that is not something you want to face.
Flygon @ Assault Vest
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 Spd / 252 Atk / 4 SDef
Jolly Nature
- Dragon Claw
- Earthquake
- Fire Punch
- U-Turn
Dragon's one of my favorite types so I had to have one on the team! Flygon can switch in on a Jirrachi thunder wave, hit 'em with earthquake, and switch out if needed. Dragon Claw over Outrage so I don't get locked into a move, fire punch for versatility and EQ for stab.
I had forgotten Salamence was allowed in UU now so I might switch him out for that, but the team seems to be doing well with Flygon. (Let me know which you think would work best down below)
Basic list of requests:
- Replacement for Ice Shard on Froslass (if there is one)
- Stone Edge or EQ on Hitmonlee
- Replace Delphox or not? If so with what?
- Salamence over Flygon?
- Other possible item for Flygon if kept
- and of course any other changes you think are necessary
Pokemon I am Satisfied with but that I think are potential weak links and could be better:
- Hitmonlee
- Blastoise
- Delphox
Thanks for reading and rating! My battle style is more offensively based, I don't really like/have the patience for setting up unless it's a quick stealth rocks, so you might want to keep that in mind when thinking of replacements. If you need any clarification on a Pokemon's role let me know. Have a nice day!
