XY UU Frosty Paws: A Dark Horse Treat for all!

Long, long time ago, in the special land of Sinnoh, a new Pokemon was discovered! It was green and white and positively Christmas-y! Why, it was none other than our beloved Frosty Paws the Abomasnow. Unfortunately for our little Yeti, it's Ice/Grass typing gave it weaknesses to a plethora of types; Fire, Flying, Rock, Steel, Fighting, Bug, Poison while having very average defenses. Gen V came and things only got worse for our little Hail summoner. A Fox and a Toad got Hidden Abilities which got rid of the Hail for which our little Yeti Tree loved. Gen 6 came along and it got nerfed even more; Hail only lasted 5 turns. All the summoners fell to the depths of UU, but our little Frosty received a Mega Evolution, for which this RMT is all about....

Patrick1088 here and one of my favorite things about UU is the Dark Horse Project. Rules are simple, you must choose a minimum of 2 Dark Horses (pokes that have less than 4% usage) while not going over a total of 35% usage (fyi Blastoise has 19.5% usage to get an idea of how team building is "restricted'). With Togekiss/Smeargle dropping along with a plethora of bulky waters combined with Mew and Hera leaving, I knew that certain pokes would rise exponentially (Nidos) and this allowed to make a team which peaked over 1500 while staying under 24% usage. Without further ado, the team!

Snorlax@ Assault Vest
Thick Fat
Adamant Nature
252 Atk/ 252 Def/ 4 Sp Def
-Return
-Crunch
-Earthquake
-Pursuit

Dark Horse #1. With Mew leaving the tier, I knew the Nidos would have an easier time in the tier. Combine this with Slowbro leaving and there will be Fire Spam from Victini like we've never seen. AV Snorlax was my top choice for this team as my Dark Horse. Return is the STAB move of choice. Crunch hits Ghosts and EQ hits Steel types. Pursuit is for fleeting Victini and other psychic types (non-Baton Pass Espeon, Starmie, Alakazam). EVs are pretty straight forward. I invested more in Defense to cushion Psyshock users. Relevant Calcs are below...

252+ SpA Life Orb Sheer Force Nidoqueen Sludge Wave vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Assault Vest Snorlax: 122-146 (26.4 - 31.6%) -- guaranteed 4HKO
252 Atk Choice Band Victini V-create vs. 0 HP / 252 Def Thick Fat Snorlax: 189-223 (40.9 - 48.3%) -- guaranteed 3HKO
252 Atk Sheer Force Darmanitan Flare Blitz vs. 0 HP / 252 Def Thick Fat Snorlax: 139-165 (30.1 - 35.7%) -- 34.4% chance to 3HKO
252 SpA Alakazam Psyshock vs. 0 HP / 252 Def Snorlax: 139-165 (30.1 - 35.7%) -- 34.4% chance to 3HKO
252+ SpA Mold Breaker Mega Ampharos Focus Blast vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Assault Vest Snorlax: 212-250 (45.9 - 54.2%) -- 50% chance to 2HKO

Aromatisse@ Leftovers
Aroma Veil
Bold Nature (0 Atk IVs)

252 HP/ 252 Def/ 4 Sp Def
-Wish
-Protect
-Moonblast
-Aromatherapy

Dark Horse #2 is Aromtisse. It's typing and ability to tank Fighting attacks is so perfect. It's made to compliment Snorlax and the rest of the team with Wish Support, Aromatherapy support and overall great bulk. Aroma Veil makes it immune to Taunt, Encore, etc.. which really separates it from Florges and Blissey. It's pretty straightforward in EVs to pass the biggest Wishes while being able to tank physical attacks. He's also one of my checks to Dragon Types, including DD LO Haxorus...

+1 252+ Atk Life Orb Haxorus Poison Jab vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Aromatisse: 364-429 (89.6 - 105.6%) -- 37.5% chance to OHKO.

That's pretty good if I do say so myself! :-)

Frosty Paws@ Abomasite
Snow Warning
Adamant Nature
248 HP/ 252 Atk/ 4 Def/ 4 Speed
-Swords Dance
-Ice Shard
-Seed Bomb
-Earthquake

Dark Horse #3 is Mega Snow. This has to be one of the most underrated threats ever. Base 132 may seem underwhelming for a Mega, but it's able to get the job done. Obviously Fire Types and Fighting types are a pain, but oh look It has almost perfect synergy with AV Snorlax and Aromatisse!! Exactly. Frosty Paws baits the fire types like Victini for Snorlax to pick off with Pursuit. EVs are pretty normal; 248 for SR number, max attack, and 4 speed to speed creep base 30s (Snorlax and Slowking mainly at this point). This is a sweeping set of course with SD. Seed Bomb is STAB without Recoil and destroys the plethora of bulky waters trying to fill Slowbro's role. Earthquake hits Fire and Steel types on the switch. The ICING (get it? ICE! nevermind...) on the cake is Ice Shard. This pitiful 40BP priority move becomes an impaling force once boosted. Relevant calcs are below...

+2 252+ Atk Mega Abomasnow Ice Shard vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Haxorus: 320-378 (109.2 - 129%) -- guaranteed OHKO
+2 252+ Atk Mega Abomasnow Ice Shard vs. 120 HP / 4 Def Mega Aerodactyl: 332-392 (100.3 - 118.4%) -- guaranteed OHKO
+2 252+ Atk Mega Abomasnow Ice Shard vs. 132 HP / 0 Def Mega Ampharos: 278-330 (78.5 - 93.2%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after hail damage
+2 252+ Atk Mega Abomasnow Ice Shard vs. 4 HP / 0 Def Nidoking: 362-428 (119 - 140.7%) -- guaranteed OHKO
+2 252+ Atk Mega Abomasnow Ice Shard vs. 128 HP / 0 Def Nidoqueen: 326-386 (92.3 - 109.3%) -- 56.3% chance to OHKO
+2 252+ Atk Mega Abomasnow Ice Shard vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Hydreigon: 320-378 (98.4 - 116.3%) -- 87.5% chance to OHKO
+2 252+ Atk Mega Abomasnow Ice Shard vs. 248 HP / 0 Def Togekiss: 306-360 (82 - 96.5%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after hail damage and Leftovers recovery
+2 252+ Atk burned Mega Abomasnow Seed Bomb vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Suicune: 190-225 (47 - 55.6%) -- 76.2% chance to 2HKO after hail damage and Leftovers recovery

Do not underestimate the Mega Yeti named Frosty Paws...

031.png

Nidoqueen@ Life Orb
Sheer Force
Modest Nature (0 Atk IVs)
128 HP/ 252 Sp Atk/ 128 Speed
-Stealth Rock
-Sludge Wave
-Earth Power
-Ice Beam

Queen was chosen as the glue for my team. SR helps bring all the pokes within KO range, making an Aboma sweep that much easier. With Mew out of the tier and Toge in the tier, he's that much more of a wall breaker. Modest Nature and LO to get the most bang for your buck. Sludge Wave and Earth Power are STAB while Ice Beam hits flying pokes like Mega Aero harder. Good Bulk and Great Power coupled with an immunity to T-Wave and Toxic really helps a lot.

073.png

Tentacruel@ Black Sludge
Liquid Ooze
Bold Nature (0 Atk IVs)
252 HP/ 240 Def/ 16 Speed
-Rapid Spin
-Scald

-Toxic Spikes
-Knock Off

Tentacruel is more of a utility poke on my team. With Mew leaving, I knew that there would be a big influx of hazard setters. A good rapid spinner/Defogger was needed and Tenta had great synergy with Abomasnow. EVs are standard. Rapid Spin to get rid of hazards. Scald to spread burn, making walling physical threats like Shao that much easier. T-Spikes coupled with SR and Hail damage really helped solidify things and rack up the passive damage. All these things helped bring the opponent closer to KO range. Knock Off was really useful to get rid of Eviolite, Scarfs, LOs, etc.. Liquid Ooze was chosen because passive damage for HP recovery moves > no lowered stats.

Steve, not Stove@ Choice Scarf
Levitate
Timid Nature (0 Atk IVs)
252 Sp Atk/ 4 Sp Def/ 252 Speed
-Trick
-Volt Switch
-Thunderbolt
-Overheat

Steve here is a another MVP of the team. Immunity to paralysis and that juicy base 86 speed lets him be my Togekiss Counter. He resists both Dazzling Gleam and Air Slash and can't be Paraflinched to death. TrickScarf cripples pokes. People predict the Volt Switch/TBolt and switch in Hippowdon, Swampert, etc.. to only be crippled by scarf. TBolt and Overheat are STAB while Volt Switch is for momentum. I did use Scarf Chandy for a bit in this spot, but Steve's typing and higher speed really helped seal the deal.

So,
this is my team! Replays are below. Relevant threats include GeoPass (stupid team), HO teams, etc.. Rates are welcome! :-)

P.S. Go check out the Dark Horse Project in the UU Forum, or PM CoolStoryBrobat for details!
