~an RU Hyper Offense

Introduction~

After playing Ubers for pretty much all of BW2, I'd gotten bored. When I was beaten by Blara's LC team, it was a sign to stop Ubers until gen 6. So I set out to my second favourite tier, RU. I hadn't played in a while so I decided to feel out the tier by throwing a bunch of high tier mons from the viability thread. It turned out so well I didn't even have to make another team! The team is currently 15-1 (the one loss was due to hax at the worst possible moments) on PS and has beaten a bunch of notable players on PO, but I'll probably ladder more later when I have time. I'm hoping to get some refinements of the team. So yeh:

In Detail~

651.png

Druddigon (M) @ Choice Band
Trait: Rough Skin
EVs: 228 HP / 252 Atk / 28 Spd
Adamant Nature
- Dragon Claw
- Earthquake
- Outrage
- Sucker Punch

Drud is more often than not my lead. With a Band, it rips apart almost every Pokemon in the tier and I like the early offensive momentum it brings to my team. Dragon typing is sexy, resisting Grass, Water, Electric and Fire. 77/90/90 bulk isn't bad either and let's it switch in repeatedly. Dragon Claw is there for a reliable hit when I don't want to lock myself into OUTRAGE, still 2hko'ing fat stuff like Lanturn. This is especially important against Sub users who would otherwise stall out my OUTRAGE turns and leaving me vulnerable to possible confusion hax. Earthquake is used to hit Steels, but to be honest I mostly just let loose OUTRAGE or predict the switch and send in Embroar/Moltres. OUTRAGE BECAUSE OUTRAGE. Sucker is nice especially against faster Choice users and lessens the problem of having no actually revenge killer. The EVs are standard, but with a bit more speed to creep other Druds, but I feel I should run more. Rough Skin is great for chip damage, especially when you're about to die and contributes to KOs of other mons.

141.png

Kabutops (M) @ Life Orb
Trait: Swift Swim
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd
Adamant Nature
- Rapid Spin
- Stone Edge
- Aqua Jet
- Stealth Rock

Tops is a cool guy. He is my important spinner that supports the team, most importantly Moltres. Not only does Tops spin, he does it reliably:
252+ Atk Life Orb Kabutops Stone Edge vs. 252 HP / 192+ Def Spiritomb: 153-181 (50.32 - 59.53%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock
Spiritomb, the most prominent spin blocker in RU is always 2hkoed after rocks. My dual STABs of choice are Stone Edge and Aqua Jet. Aqua Jet adds to the shitload of priority in my team and can clean weakened teams late game. Stone Edge is there to deal heavy damage to mostly everything. While I would really like to put Swords Dance in the last slot for enhanced late game cleaning, I need Rocks somewhere. EVs and nature are standard. Outspeed as much as you can, while hitting as hard as you can.

146.png

Moltres @ Life Orb
Trait: Pressure
EVs: 252 SAtk / 4 SDef / 252 Spd
Timid Nature
- Fire Blast
- Hurricane
- Hidden Power [Grass]
- Roost

Moltres is a (BAN ME PLEASE). Games are won and loss depending on whether Fire Blast and Hurricane decides to hit. When I do hit, the rewards are tremendous. Slowking, a seemingly safe switch with his massive special defense and fire resist, is always 2HKOed by Hurricane. Uxie, another (BAN ME PLEASE), is also 2HKOed.
252 SpA Life Orb Moltres Fire Blast vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Uxie: 199-234 (56.21 - 66.1%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock
252 SpA Life Orb Moltres Hurricane vs. 248 HP / 116+ SpD Slowking: 187-222 (47.58 - 56.48%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock
It is for this reason I like to lead with Moltres against Uxie. A lucky Confusion can mean no rocks the entire match. HP Grass is mostly a filler, but it comes in handy against stuff like Oma and Rhydon. Roost is slightly more used than HP Grass, but can come in handy against Sucker Punch users. Moltres forces a shitload of switches, so I've been considering a SubRoost set to add a safety net in the event of a miss.

254.png

Sceptile (M) @ Life Orb
Trait: Overgrow
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Timid Nature
- Giga Drain
- Focus Blast
- Hidden Power [Rock]
- Substitute

A cool guy and an important Electric resist for the team. 120 speed is amazing and allows Sceptile to outpseed every unboosted mon in the tier, bar Aero and Accelgor. 105 special attack is also pretty decent, especially when boosted by the a Life Orb. Sub is a very handy move, probably my favourite in competitive Pokemon. It provides a lot of versatility. It allows me to: set up on stall mons (most importantly Slowking), fish for a miss, get into Overgrow range if the power is not sufficient and provides a barrier against Scarfers. Grass STAB forces a lot of switches from the large number of Ground and Water types in the tier, giving me plenty of opportunities to Sub. Giga Drain is my STAB move of choice and mitigates the recoil from LO and Sub. Focus Blast is my heaviest hit on opposing Sceptiles and is a good move in general vs Steels (OHKOs Durants, which can be a pain in the ass). HP Rock is the final move of the set, allowing me to get a solid hit off on the Flying types of the tier.

199.png

Slowking (F) @ Leftovers
Trait: Regenerator
EVs: 248 HP / 144 Def / 116 SDef
Calm Nature
- Dragon Tail
- Scald
- Slack Off
- Thunder Wave

The most defensive member of the team. Slowking serves no specific purpose, but is a general check to most threats of the tier that do not hit it super effectively. Dragon Tail is a handy move for chip damage and lets me phase out one of the biggest (BAN ME PLEASE)s for this team: Cosmic Power Sigilyph. Thunder Wave is a neat move supporting the more offensive members in their attempts to blow holes/sweep. Slack Off is really handy vs Volt Switchers. Due to Slowking's great special bulk, I can survive a hit, Slack off and then Regen out, bringing me back to full health. Scald isn't used all that much, but is nice to have vs more frail mons. I don't know what the EVs do, I shamelessly stole them from Smogon, but it has been working well so far!

528.png

Emboar (M) @ Choice Scarf
Trait: Blaze
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spd
Jolly Nature
- Flare Blitz
- Wild Charge
- Superpower
- Sleep Talk
~Thanks to Cherub Agent

Embroar fills the role of the revenge killer on my team. He is also an ideal sleep absorber. With almost every common sleeper being a Grass type, he can force Sleep Powder or force them out of play with a powerful Flare Blitz. Fire is also a great type for a physically offensive mon as it means an immunity to Will-O-Wisp. Embroar covers some crucial threats that my team would otherwise struggle with. Durant, Sceptile and Liligant are all capable of sweeping my team if the smallest things go wrong. Flare Blitz and Superpower are my STAB moves of choice and with max investment and a base 123 attack, they hit like trucks. I don't like using Wild Charge as it is much weaker comparatively. Regardless, it is necessary for the many bulky Waters in the tier as many resist Fighting due to their secondary typing (Slowking, Qwilfish etc.). Sleep Talk is there so Embroar is not a sitting duck while sleeping. The EVs are there to maximise power and speed for obvious reasons.

Possible Changes~

I've had another variant of this team suggested to me by New Breed, which has Scarf Medicham, Offensive SR Drud and SD Tops. I don't know why it just doesn't to match my wavelength.

I also may replace Medicham for a Scarfer, because being cock blocked by Tomb really sucks.

Former Members~

308.png

Medicham (M) @ Life Orb
Trait: Pure Power
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spd
Adamant Nature
- Fake Out
- Bullet Punch
- Hi Jump Kick
- Zen Headbutt

The final member of the team, the lowest on the viability chart and the most expendable member of the team. If Slowking loosely checked most things defensively, Medicham loosely checks most things offensively. A combination of Fake Out + Bullet Punch does around 90% to most threats that do not resist either move. This in combination with Aqua Jet from Tops and Sucker from Drud let's me kill my choice of pretty much every offensively threatening mon once. Steel sucks offensively, but it is the only option bar the pathetically weak Vacuum Wave. It does have some perks though. Priority is the obvious one, but it does take out Archeops and Aero. Bullet Punch is also the only move on this set which can touch Spiritomb, although against Tomb I just use Medicham as bait and double switch to my Moltres or Sceptile. HIGH JUMP KICK BECAUSE HIGH JUMP KICK. The potential recoil does suck however, but the power is just too good to pass. Zen Headbutt is the final move and has good coverage with HIGH JUMP KICK, hitting Poison types and Ghosts (not named Tomb).

Importable~

Final Notes~

-Take it out for a spin, idk why it's a fun team to use and I've had a lot of close matches with it.
-Thanks to New Breed for the suggesting the Sceptile set and looking over the team.
-Keep a damage calculator handy when playing with this team. Your win/loss ratio increases so much when you don't needlessly risk Fire Blasts, Focus Blasts etc.
-Threat list will be up soon enough (it probably won't, but hurrah for goals)
-Thanks for reading :)

Another (BAN ME PLEASE). He can deal heavy damage to every member of my team and can set up freely on king. The team is definetly solid, but I do have a couple of suggestions that I think could benefit you. First if all, run Flamethrower over Fire Blast on Moltres, as it gets you all the KOs it needs in tandem with Hurricane. Moltres also really just appreciates an accurate STAB move that it can spam without the fear of missing. I'm also iffy about Stealth Rock on Kabutops, especially with such an offensive spread, but if it works out for you by all means keep it. I can only imagine that you end up playing a lot of games without setting it up, since Kabutops like using the few free turns it gets to either smack something with Stone Edge or to spin.

My last suggestion regards the fact that opposing Sceptile, Durant and Spritomb look like they can give your team a fair bit of hassle. I therefore suggest running Choice Scarf Emboar over Medicham. Emboar checks/counters all of these, and and can smash them all with flare blitz. It also acts as a fairly good check to the problematic Sigilyph; between it, Moltres and Slowking you it should never really be problematic. It also means that you have an additional way to revenge kill Crawdaunt, which can set up easily on Slowking. I knoe that Sceptile outspeeds it, but crawdaunt can even set up a Sub on Slowking and then wreck Sceptile with crunch.

Hey I think is a really solid team with not too many weaknesses. From the looks of it I see Medicham as a little out of place. Especially, with no pursuit support it can't just spam HJK without a fear of a ghost like Rotom and Spiritomb. A huge threat I see with the team is standard SubCM uxie as it can set up on Medicham and slowking and forces out Moltres and Kabutops with tbolt allowing it to get up a free sub. To remedy this issue I suggest Using either Standard HC Durant or LO 4 attack Durantif you want to catch opposing moltres's off guard. Not only does Durant help against uxie but it also adds much needed speed to the team and allowing you to handle LO Cinccino and Druddigon better. Also this can handle CP sigi better allowing you to run psyshock and Fblast on slowking in place of dtail.

Sry I'm on my phones I won't be able to post the set but they are just standard sets on site.

Cherub

will definitely test flamethrower on moltres
ud be right about stealth rocks haha, i only go out of my way to set it up when i see something annoying like scyther and moltres
as for durant and sceptile, yeh :( ive lost matches due to focus blast missing from sceptile :\
i will definitely test embroar as it sounds like a solid fit thanks :)

double

everyone hates medicham :o (he does blow though)
durant is an interesting suggestion
ive only ever seen him as a threat and never considered him as a team mate
will test it out thanks :)

sup

i dont really think slowking serves much of a purpose for this team... running qwilfish helps vs drud and alleviates your durant problem while also laying spikes and spreading paralysis which your team would like a lot.

also lilligant absolutely tears through your team with drud gone... if you dont find yourself using sucker punch much (i was always hesitant to use sucker punch on choice banders with teams like this because it gives free turns) i would use sleep talk. sleep talk on cb druddigon is excellent and will let you run through lilligant pretty easily

im aware that the qwilfish change will take away your crutch (slowking) but to be honest you wont really be switching around much with a team like this anyway and you should handle most offensive / defensive threats by just smashing them to death and making sure that they don't set up (i used a very similar team to this to ladder for the last nidoqueen suspect test).

cool team gl

EDIT: i also support using a possible scarfer over medicham.. cp sigilyph is kinda annoying (even when you have slowking tbh) so something with trick could really help mitigate that... trick scarf rotom-c comes to mind immediately x) it also helps with some of your other weaks and functions as one of the best scarfers overall.

august

ive had similar sentiments as slowking is set up bait for annoying stuff way more often than i would like
i will try out qwilfish
my main concern is i lack a spin blocker, which may or may not be significant because i find spinners usually have a hard time against my team
as for the liligant weakness, ive never noticed this before, but ud be right
this just gives me another reason to use scarf embroar! ill probably try sleep talk on that
thanks for the rate!

oh btw dragon tail slowking is so i can get a favourable match up vs sigi late game so he has no free turns to cosmic power

Hey puregenius, Great team you got here. Really like how your using Moltres, don't see it on the ladder too much. Anyways I have a few ideas which I hope will make your team better.
Your team SRer is a Kabutops which is I don't see to much. But I would recommend you change your Druddigon to the Standard set with it running SR and replace SR on Kabutops with either Waterfall OR Swords Dance. Waterfall is pretty damn helpful hitting something on the switch and you will always have a strong 100 accuracy move to be safe. You can also use Lum Berry on Kabutops over LO for Spiritomb and their Will-o-wisp shenanigans. Hope this helped.

Edit: Just read the very bottom, New Breed basically suggested you those changes lol. oh well :]

thanks for spending time to rate my team wepwn, but yeh as i have said that change isnt as effective for me

embroar is now in the main team and is much more effective overall (thanks cherub)
op has been editted to reflect this
there was only one match where i wish i still had medicham
i was swept by sd sceptile after some unlucky confusion :s (funnily enough qwilfish would have saved me here)

i am now testing qwilfish and lantern over slowking
overall qwilfish seems like a better fit, but heal bell from lantern could be really useful
