Fun Sandstorm Team

I think my sandstorm team may be good but i do need some help with it like what items i need to put on them.Im having a hard time thinking for all of the items.

Tar-Pits (Tyranitar) (M) @ Smooth Rock
Ability: Sand Stream
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 64 HP / 176 Atk / 192 Def / 76 SpA
Relaxed Nature
- Rock Blast
- Crunch
- Fire Blast
- Thunder Wave

T-Tar is my Sand Setter which i picked over Hippowdon because it has more move variety.Rock Blast may be replaced with Stone Edge but not sure or not.Helps deals with things such as Zapdos or Moltres.Crunch is for it being the only usable Dark move on T-Tar.Fire-Blast is for things like :Ferrothorn: and :Scizor:.T-wave is to slow the opponent and make them not able to move as well as having :Dragapult: my next mon with Hex to double on the power of Hex.

Dragapult (M) @ Colbur Berry
Ability: Infiltrator
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Modest Nature
- Draco Meteor
- Hex
- Scald
- U-turn

I picked :Dragapult: because it was the only ghost in the Ou so i could switch it in on something with a fighting move so T-tar doesn't get OHKO'd.Draco Meteor is for other dragons and just overall power to pick up kills with.Hex is doubled powed on T-wave or one of my burning moves.Scald is to potentially burn with but may be switched with something else.U-turn is for the pivoting.

Excadrill (M) @ Focus Sash
Ability: Sand Rush
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 252 Atk / 148 Def / 108 SpD
Adamant Nature
- High Horsepower
- Iron Head
- X-Scissor
- Swords Dance

:Excadrill: is my Swords Dance/Sand Rush set up sweeper.HIgh Horsepower is so Grassy Surge doesn't halve EQs power.Iron head for fairies like the Tapus and :Clefable:. X-Scizzor is for if a :Rillaboom: does switch in giving it a powerful surprise.

234.png

Heatran (M) @ Leftovers
Ability: Flame Body
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 252 HP / 68 SpA / 188 SpD
Calm Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Lava Plume
- Earth Power
- Toxic
- Taunt
:Heatran: is here for statusing the opponent and taunting so other mons can't set up.Flash fire is so Lava Plume gets more power if they try to use a fire move on my Steel types.

234.png

Ferrothorn (M) @ Leftovers
Ability: Iron Barbs
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 252 HP / 128 Def / 128 SpD
Careful Nature
- Knock Off
- Leech Seed
- Thunder Wave
- Protect
Ferrothorn is for a big problematic wall with leech seed and leftovers stacked for passive healing.Knock off is for getting items off of the opponent.T-wave is for the hex :Dragapult: and for hoping the opponent cant move so u get the upper hand.

Corviknight (M) @ Rocky Helmet
Ability: Pressure
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 Def
Impish Nature
- Drill Peck
- U-turn
- Defog
- Roost

Corvinight might need leftover but it is my defoger so i can keep stage control.U-turn is so i don't get trapped by magnezone.Drill peck is so i don't take a lot of recoil.

Thanks for getting this far and please give me feedback.

thanks ill use all of these sets except i will give dragapult hex and use the original ferrothorn set. Thanks for looking over this team Simp.

Also just to put it out there i had Colbur berry on Dragapult to live any Knock Off or Sucker Punch almost garenteed and u also gain variety not having Specs.

Anyone else who would like to add on to my team i would love to hear it.

small thing to add is that with magearna gone, speed evs on ttar are not that necessary.

the team seems to lack a bit of longevity though, with only one mon having reliable recovery in corvi. this will probably make you want to play a faster game, but heatran, ferro, corvi, spdef ttar dont really like that

just for a quick note, I kinda like pex here, it forms a water fire grass core with tran and ferro, resists fire, is a bulky water that is not weak to grass and has amazing longevity, i might consider it instead of corvi, not sure though

maybe, there could also be an argument made here hippo instead of ttar as it also gets toxic+rocks bit has slack off for longevity, can run spdef or def and can carry smooth rock to enable drill better

i just don't like hippo as much glava.yes it has very good defence but so do every other thing on this team.i like T-tar for the sp.def

Since you're using rush drill on your sand team, the first major suggestion I will give is :Skarmory: over :Corviknight:. This allows you to combine metal birb and hell durian's spikes into one slot. As Excadrill has access to rapid spin, you can actually afford to stack that many hazards without having to concede your own if an opposing Ferrothorn begins spiking

Ferrothorn is not a good pick on sand teams if you're using Tyranitar as your summoner. You're already vulnerable to fighting types as is and for some reason, water Urshifu has been on the rise. Instead, replace this with someone with teleport like :Slowking: or :Blissey:. Tyranitar isn't a wall because it doesn't actually wall anything. Sand teams have a heavy artillery in the form of mixed Dracozolt, specifically the Ocelzolt by LiquidOcelot. It can easily clear the path for Excadrill

Dracozolt @ Life Orb
Ability: Sand Rush
EVs: 108 Atk / 212 SpA / 188 Spe
Rash Nature
- Fire Blast
- Bolt Beak
- Earthquake
- Draco Meteor

That set is meant to one shot max hp Landorus Therian with draco after some slight chip damage such as a couple stealth rock entries or just some other random hits. It also outruns I believe up to scarf Lando in sand. Also, this set is slow. If you wanna know how slow this is then just know that scarf Garchomp outspeeds it so unless you're sure chomp isn't scarfed, switch to Skarm. Yes, yes scarf chomp is so rare to the point of almost non existent but it is an unexpected mon and unexpected mon seems to be the trend these days. Liquidocelot correct me if I missed anything on the set

This also means that you'll have to drop Heatran, which is good because you're already stacking up on weaknesses. Heatran has next to no place for a team weak to ground types in a tier where the number one threat, or arguably the number one, is a ground type, Garchomp

Some other random suggestions

Use max spd on Tyranitar. If you are using Tyranitar as your sand summoner, then the only reason you would ever do that is to counter Volcarona. There is no reason to ever use Tyranitar over Hippowdon if you're not using the one edge it has over Hippo

Use rapid spin on Excadrill. That was one of the biggest blessings for a sand team as it means Excadrill no longer has to rely on sand 100% of the time and you don't have to concede your own hazards, allowing for easier spike stacking

Lastly, use a leftovers sub status hex or specs set on Dragapult. You do not want to take this thing to ever eat a dark type move. Pursuit is gone so there is no reason to use colbur berry

Here are the changes

Tyranitar @ Smooth Rock
Ability: Sand Stream
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpD
Sassy Nature
- Crunch
- Rock Blast
- Earthquake
- Stealth Rock

Dracozolt @ Life Orb
Ability: Sand Rush
EVs: 108 Atk / 212 SpA / 188 Spe
Rash Nature
- Fire Blast
- Bolt Beak
- Earthquake
- Draco Meteor

Excadrill @ Leftovers
Ability: Sand Rush
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Iron Head
- Rapid Spin
- Earthquake
- Swords Dance

Skarmory @ Leftovers
Ability: Sturdy
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Impish Nature
- Roost
- Spikes
- Brave Bird
- Body Press

Blissey @ Heavy Duty Boots
Ability: Natural Cure
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
- Toxic
- Teleport
- Soft Boiled
- Seismic Toss

Dragapult @ Leftovers
Ability: Infiltrator
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Modest Nature
- Hex
- Substitute
- Will o Wisp
- Draco Meteor

You can switch up the sets to what you want. Just keep stealth rock on Tyranitar no matter what happens and rapid spin on Excadrill. You can also use specs pult if you want but I just like Hexapult a lot more

Hey there :afrostar:
Cool team you've got there but I have some changes that can help you out.

Major Changes:
  • I recommend swapping out your Heatran for a Slowking as it help with special threats like Tapu Lele,Heatran and Nidoking. It can also pair well with one of my other changes due to its ability to pressure the opposing team with Future Sight.
  • Next I recommend swapping out Ferrothorn for a Choice Banded Kartana because it can be a extremely strong breaker with Future Sight support. It also helps with pressuring key targets like Corviknight which can lead to Excadrill cleaning easily.
Minor Changes:
  • Your Tyranitar set is sub par right now as there is no reason to run Mixed Tyranitar right now, Smooth Rock is also weird on this team as it only has one Sand Abuser in Excadrill and Tyranitar would benefit a lot more from the passive recovery from Leftovers. I suggest replacing it with the standard Specially Defensive set.
  • Your Excadrill set is also incredibly unviable as to my knowledge it doesnt accomplish anything specific and the regular Sand Rush set would be better in its place.
  • Same with your Dragapult set, I recommend replacing it with a Thunder Wave Hex set as it is consistent in Sand Teams in my experience, it also relieves pressure on Tyranitar for checking pokemon like Volcarona and Heatran by paralyzing them which can lead to Tyranitar outstanding them and KOing them.
  • I also recommend using Leftovers over Rocky Helmet on Corviknight as it can help it deal with Garchomp more effectively, I also suggest using mixed defenses as it can help with Future Sight abusers like Kartana and also Mixed Garchomp.

The team:

:ss/tyranitar:
Tyranitar @ Leftovers

Ability: Sand Stream
EVs: 252 HP / 216 SpD / 40 Spe
Careful Nature
- Rock Blast
- Stealth Rock
- Toxic

- Earthquake

Tyranitar makes for a great Sand setter as it gains extra special bulk because of it, which makes it a phenomenal special wall. It can wall common special attackers like Volcarona, Dragapult, Heatran and Kyurem lacking Focus Blast. Toxic can be useful to cripple incoming Defog users like Mandibuzz, Tornadus-T and Zapdos. The EVs are to outspeed paralyzed Volcarona and max speed Melmetal. The rest has been put into Spdef and HP to maximize bulk.

:ss/Excadrill:
Excadrill @ Leftovers
Ability: Sand Rush
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Earthquake
- Iron Head
- Swords Dance

- Toxic

Excadrill makes for a great Sand abuser that can act as a late game cleaner/sweeper. Leftovers let's it have longevity which is really appreciated and makes it able to switch into pokemon like Tapu Koko and Clefable lacking Flamethrower. Toxic can cripple common switch ins like Hippowdon, Slowbro, Mandibuzz and Zapdos.
:ss/Corviknight:

Corviknight @ Leftovers
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 252 HP / 168 Def / 88 SpD
Relaxed Nature
- Defog
- Roost
- U-turn

- Brave Bird

Corviknight is one of the best Defog users in the current metagame due to its ability to Defog on common users such as Landorus-T, Garchomp, Tyranitar and Hippowdon. The only two Stealth Rock users that can threaten Corviknight are Heatran and Trick Clefable. Corviknight also makes for a great slow pivot with it's low base speed and access to U-turn. It also checks metagame threats like Swords Dance Garchomp and Landorus-T.

:ss/dragapult:
Dragapult @ Heavy-Duty Boots

Ability: Infiltrator
EVs: 96 HP / 252 SpA / 160 Spe
Timid Nature
- Hex
- Draco Meteor
- U-turn

- Thunder Wave

Dragapult is a great pick in the current metagame, it's a very strong threat with access to Status conditions like Will-O Wisp and Thunder Wave. I chose Thunder Wave on this set to deal with Volcarona better. Hex makes use of this Status and Heavy-Duty Boots let it pivot with U-turn and not worry about chip from Hazards. The EVs are to outspeed Tapu Koko and the remaining have been put into HP to take hits from the likes of Heatran and Volcarona better.

:ss/kartana:
Kartana @ Choice Band
Ability: Beast Boost
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Leaf Blade
- Smart Strike
- Sacred Sword
- Knock Off

Choice Banded Kartana makes for a great wallbreaker in the current meta, especially when paired with Future Sight support which can make it incredibly hard to wall. It's good movepool along with its sky high attack also gives it a surprising lack of checks outside of pokemon like Mandibuzz and Zapdos which aren't fond of getting their Heavy-Duty Boots knocked off.

:ss/slowking:
Slowking @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpD
Sassy Nature
IVs: 0 Atk / 0 Spe
- Scald
- Slack Off
- Future Sight

- Teleport

Slowking makes for a great special wall in the current meta, it can offer a switch in to threats such as Heatran, Tapu Lele, and Nidoking. Teleport gives it a way to create momentum in a match while also healing with Regenerator. It also puts pressure on the opposing team with Future Sight. Heavy-Duty Boots let's it not worry about hazards so it can recover with Regenerator while pivoting with Teleport.

This team struggles against Zeraora so make sure to play extra carefully against it.

The link of the entire team can be found here.
Have fun  .
