XY OU FWG+FDS: The best cores, combined

Hi guys :) First RMT here. This is a team I've been using for a while that I feel pretty comfortable with. It has a good matchup vs Bulky Offense etc as well as HO. Also has an O-kay matchup vs Stall due to the combination of my WC's. Without further ado, lets get this started:

006-mx.png

Charizard @ Charizardite X
Ability: Blaze
EVs: 248HP/ 200Speed/ 60 Atk
Adamant Nature
- Dragon Claw
- Flame Charge
- Sword Dance
- Roost

The mon that I chose to build around, and for good reason. As you can see, this set isnt the standard DD set. I chose SD in order to beat Intimidate, tear apart slower/bulkier teams and to become much more threatening in two turns. Flame Charge is indeed a weird move on Zard, but as opposed to Flare Blitz, you maintain Zard's survivability and you can pick off weakened threats while reaping the benefits of a free +1. Of course SD+Flame Charge has its cons. They can always choose to switch in a check such as Scarf Chomp. And at +2, Flame Charge still does no damage to one of Zard's best offensive checks, Azumarill. I'm considering Flare Blitz+DDance over SD and Flame Charge, although they tend to do well together. But overall, this mon is easily one of my most reliable win conditions, and should be noted that it checks StallTini.

Rotom @Choice Scarf
EVs: 232 HP/ 220 Speed/ 56 Spatk
Modest Nature
- Hydro Pump
- Volt Switch
- WoW
- Trick

Old 5th gen Rotom set thats not commonly used, but works wonderfully on this team and provides "Balance". His job is to cripple walls and/or set-up mons, and get off strong Hydro's here and there. He also checks one of the most threatening mons in the game, Lando-I (non Calm Mind variant). The hp evs help to take resisted hits better. 56 spatk evs is enough to secure OHKOs with Hydro Pump vs Terrakion after Rocks. Scarf is just good overall, because it allows me to surprise other mons such as Greninja,Zard Y, +1 Gyarados and catching Talonflame before the U-Turn. He also helps Zard X by crippling SlowBros, Heatran, defensive Azumarill, and Quagsire, mons commonly found on Stall. Overall, Rotom has been doing its job extremely well, and I dont believe theres anything worth changing here except maybe the evs a bit.

286.png

Breloom @ Toxic Orb
Ability: Poison Heal
EVs: 236 HP/ 248 SpDef/ 20 Speed
Careful Nature
- Drain Punch
- Substitute
- Spore
- Leech Seed

I decided to run this over the Tech variant becuase:

1) Its an excellent switch into Rotom-W, which my team would have trouble with otherwise..somewhat
2) Solid answer to Sand Offense (T-Tar+Drill), and checks DDance Mega Tar unless it runs Ice Punch. Also does well vs Non-Hp Flying Thundurus.
3) Is a good pivot switch into Knock Off, beside Zard
4) Checks non Ice-Fang Mega Gyara
5) Annoys the HELL out of Stall. Breloom can PP Stall non-Sludge Bomb Mega Venusaur (Hp Fire only does 31.8-38.1%)

PH is one of Breloom's underrated sets. But its hilarious once it gets going. It usually annoys so much that it forces switches, racking up Rocks damage in the process. I chose this variant over Tech because of the untapped defensive capablities, and becuase of how much fun it is annoying the hell out of people. It only really has trouble with Talonflame (if not behind a Sub) , Gliscor, and Sylveon if it runs speed evs. Other than that, teams just get hella weakened by this thing.

227.png

Skarmory @ Rocky Helmet
Ability: Sturdy
EVs: 252 HP/ 224 Def/ 32 SpDef
Impish Nature
- Brave Bird
- Whirlwind
- Stealth Rock
- Roost

Skarmory is Skarmory. EV spread is standard. I chose Rocky Helmet>Leftovers becuase it punishes mons he commonly switches in on, such as Azumarill, Terrakion and Scizor. Walling threats such as Mega Pinsir is very helpful as well. Not much else to say here.

381.png

Latios @ Life Orb
EVs: 252spatk/252speed/4hp
Timid Nature
- Draco Meteor
- Psyshock
-Roost
- Defog

Standard offensive Latios set. Its literally only on this team to support Zard. I've considered Hp Fighting to catch opposing Bisharp, and even Memento to provide Zard with free set up oppurtunities. Scarf would also be nice to check +1 Dragons such as opposing Zard X and Dragonite, but thats kind of balls with Defog. He handily beats Mega Venusaur though, which is nice. Again, nothing much else to say here.

036.png

Clefable @ Leftovers
Ability: Magic Guard
EVs: 252 HP/ 252 Def/ 4 SpAtk
Bold Nature
- MoonBlast
- Flamethrower
- SoftBoiled
- Calm Mind

Hands down, the best win condition in OU. Clefable is capable of setting up at any point in the game, and can do so against the majority of the tier. (Barring Bisharp and Excadrill) Usually, Zard will be able to take care of these mons, clearing way for Clefable to sweep. Or Clefable will take care of Zard's hard counters such as Azumarill and Heatran. Also serves as one of my most reliable Conkeldurr switch ins. Clefable has been putting in a hell of alot of work, and helps my team beat troublesome mons, the main reason why I decided to run it.

Well, that was my RMT, Enjoy :)

This team looks really good, good job Darius as always. Gotta love the dedication in writing all of that.

Hey, really cool team there. It has some really solid pokemon, and I love the innovation you used with the Charizard set! Balance teams aren't really common these days, so it's pretty cool to see new ways to use them. It's a very solid team, so I don't have many suggestions.

But I did see that your team has a lot of trouble with either scarf Mold Breaker Excadrill (once Rotom-w goes down, or tricks away its scarf) or Sand Rush Excadrill (in the sand). Because of this, I suggest running Counter instead of Brave Bird on Skarmory, as Counter will be able to hit physical attackers a lot harder 99% of the time (the other 1% being pokemon like M-Heracross and Breloom). Counter also help deal with Diggersby a lot better, and acts as a plan B when pokemon like M-Gyarados and opposing M-Zard X set up to the point where they can kill everything, because it can survive their hit with sturdy, and kill with Counter. Also, there will be times when Skarmory woudn't appreciate the recoil from Brave Bird, losing its sturdy.

Also, because you run minimum offensive investment on Rotom-W and none on Breloom, I suggest you invest more than 4 SpAtk investment on Clefable, otherwise even with a calm mind up, it won't be doing enough damage in order to deal with many pokemon. I suggest replacing the Def investment with SpAtk, because it doesn't need that as much as Hp and Spatk. This is important because if something happens and Charizard goes down, the only Offensive pokemon left would be Latios. Another reason to be more offensive is to deal with Latios and Latias better, because the two of them put a lot of work to your team (unless you win the speed tie with your own Latios, but 50% is way too unreliable). And if you do decide to make Clefable more offensive, you might want to give it a Modest nature, so as to fully take advantage of its SpAtk investment.

It might also be worth considering running wish over softboiled, because Latios with Life Orb will be taking damage very quickly, so you need a way to recover its HP, otherwise your whole teams gets swept by M-Venusaur (Charizard won't be doing near enough damage with a 60 Atk investment Flame Charge), so you might want to get some wish-passing going on.

Other than that though this team is great, with only a few small details needing to be ironed out.
I hope this helped!

Hi there :) I was considering Counter on Skarmory myself, but I figured it would be nice to punish mons such as SD Heracross, since most Skarm tend to run Taunt/Defog/Roost/Counter, as well as Keldeo and Mega Venusaur. But I really like the idea of Counter and its ability to halt sweeps. I'll be sure to test that and see how it goes. I figured Defensive investment would be nice on Clefable so that it can take neautral hits easier while setting up, and is also there to ease hits from the likes of Banded Terrakion (who Skarmory doesnt like). How much spatk investment do you recommend on Clefable? As for Wish>SoftBoiled, does that mean I'll have to play Clefable as a supporter moreso than a sweeper? Zard actually cleanly 2HKOs Venusaur with +2 Dragon Claw, so Flame Charge is basically never an option. Would Jolly>Adamant work so that I can outrun Naive 200 speed Kyu-B and Jolly Scarf Drill after +1?

Sorry about all these questions man lol. Thanks for the rate!

For Clefable, I actually recommend max Spa investment:
252 HP/ 252 Spa/ 4 Def. A way to deal with Banded Terrrakion is to live CC with Sturdy and kill it with Counter :]

As for Wish>Softboiled, Clefable can play the exact same role (Pseudo-sweeper) the only difference being you would have to be careful with how much damage you let it take (Make sure it is always within range of living 2 hits).

With Charizard, Dragon Claw is a 3 hit K on M-Venusaur with 60 atk evs:
60+ Atk Tough Claws Mega. Charizard X Dragon Claw vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Mega Venusaur: 138-163 (37.9-44.7%) -- guaranteed 3HKO.
Because of this, it's very important to keep Adamant, so as to make up for the low Atk investment.
To outspeed Kyurem and Scarf drill after +1 i recommend more Speed investment:
196 HP/ 252 Spe/ 60 Atk.
Running max speed rather than just enough to outspeed certain threats is better, because it allows you to speed-tie with opposing max speed-adamant Zard X's, and at +1 it will be able to outspeed many other scarf pokemon below 100 bst (excadrill included).

Hope this helps again!

Ah, thanks man. Vs Venuasaur, I meant that Zard 2HKOs it at +2. A few more things I'm curious about, is Flare Blitz a better option>Flame Charge? The only thing I'm concerned about there is being forced to run DD, meaning I cant take down bulkier threats as quickly. Also, will 196hp>248hp hinder Zard's bulk? (With 248hp, I avoid OHKOs from things such as Mega Mawile's +2 Sucker Punch and Terrakions' Stone Edge/Keldeo's Specs Hydro Pump.

Thanks again for the help!

Yeah, if you run Flare Blitz over Flame Charge, you will need to put DD on it but DD is very good too, so that shouldn't be too much of a problem.
Speed is more important than bulk on Zard, so when you come up against the pokemon you listed you will have to deal with them with the rest of your team (e.g. Living Fire Fang with Skarmory's Sturdy, and killing with Counter). ;)
