[SET]
name: Specially Defensive
move 1: Stealth Rock
move 2: Toxic
move 3: Earthquake
move 4: Roar / Stone Edge
item: Eviolite
ability: Rough Skin
nature: Jolly
evs: 252 HP / 216 SpD / 40 Spe

Gabite functions as a niche, specially-defensive Stealth Rock user. It differentiates itself from other Electabuzz checks through not only its immunity to Volt Switch and Thunderbolt, but also it taking neutral damage from Focus Blast. Gabite is also able to check powerful Fire-types such as Magmar and Lampent, as well as soft-check Klang and Koffing. Toxic functions as a way for Gabite to passively-damage common checks such as Piloswine and Mr. Mime-Galar as well as threaten other Stealth Rock users such as Corsola-Galar and Marshtomp. Earthquake is Gabite's STAB move of choice, threatening the Electric- and Fire-types of the tier as well as chipping Hattrem for some damage. Roar and Stone Edge are the recommended moves in the final slot, with Roar being able to phaze set-up sweepers and Defog users such as Golbat while Stone Edge lets Gabite hit flying-types such as Golbat as well as Rufflet.

Gabite's main weakness as a Stealth Rock user is that it is unable to threaten common forms of hazard removal such as Hattrem and Golbat. It is also worn down quickly, as Gabite is not as bulky as other hazard setters such as Piloswine, Marshtomp, and Corsola-Galar. Gabite is best paired with Pokemon who are able to consistently switch into Knock Off such as Tangela and Golbat, as Gabite relies on its Eviolite to defensively-check Pokemon such as Electabuzz and Magmar. Clefairy is a good partner as well, as it can not only heal Gabite with Wish but it is also able to heal it of status with Aromatherapy. Offensively, Gabite is best paired with Pokemon who benefit from an Electric-immunity and Stealth Rock, as well as Pokemon who are able to threaten common forms of hazard removal. Mr. Mime-Galar is able to threaten Golbat and Hattrem with its powerful STAB moves. Choice Band Raboot is able to pivot Gabite in with U-Turn as well as threaten opposing hazard setters such as Piloswine and Marshtomp with High Jump Kick and Corsola-Galar with Assurance.

Other Options
=============

- Choice Scarf / Band
- Offensive Rocks
- Fire Blast
- Hone Claws

A RestTalk set with Earthquake and Roar or Stone Edge can be run in order to give Gabite longevity, but it tends to be outclassed by Marshtomp in this regard due to the latter's access to Scald. Gabite is also able to utilize a physically-defensive set, but this checks far fewer Pokemon and doesn't take advantage of Gabite's unique typing. Gabite also has a plethora of offensive sets it can utilize, however they are often outclassed by other Pokemon in the tier. A Choice Band can be run to lure common switch-ins such as Hattrem, however, Gabite is slower than many Pokemon in the tier and can be revenge-killed easily. A Choice Scarf set can be used to clean opposing teams, yet this set tends to be outclassed by Krokorok as it can better threaten defensive cores with Knock Off. An offensive Stealth Rock set with Fire Blast can be run to lure Tangela and Ferroseed, however, this set tends to be situational in use and is still unable to break many defensive cores outside of these two Pokemon. Gabite can turn into a set-up sweeper with Hone Claws and Scale Shot, but Gabite is still fairly weak after a single boost.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Hattrem**: Hattrem is able to consistently switch into Gabite throughout a match, and consistently recover any chip damage via Rest.

**Physical Walls**: Physical-walls such as Corsola-Galar and Tangela take very little damage from Gabite's Earthquake or Stone-Edge, and while they may fear Toxic, can easily heal it off either with Synthesis or Strength Sap

**Status Moves**: If Gabite does not have Rest, it is able to be easily worn down through common status moves such as Toxic and Will-o-Wisp, as well as Toxic Spikes.

**Knock Off**: Gabite needs its Eviolite if it is to consistently check special attackers throughout a game, meaning you are often unable to risk staying in on common Knock Off users such as Tangela, Gurdurr, Thief Koffing, and Thwackey
