Gallade (Swords Dancer)

Not sure if this has been posted before but anyways here it is:

[SET]
Name: Swords Dance Sweeper
Move 1: Swords Dance
Move 2: Close Combat
Move 3: Psycho Cut
Move 4: Shadow Sneak
Item: Life Orb
Nature: Jolly
EV's: 252 Attack/252 Speed/6 Sp.Def
Ability: Steadfast

<p> Gallade is often overlooked as a sweeper because of it's lackluster speed even though it has good STAB's through Close Combat and Psycho Cut. Even if Gallade manages to get a SD and a kill off he usually finds himself being revenge killed by something faster. However, through shadow sneak Gallade is able to deal with the large number of common pokemon that try to revenge kill it as well as give it away to deal with the faster frailer pokemon that are weak to shadow sneak. Due to his average speed stat, there is not much point to using any of the elemental punch outside of on a choice scarf set because many of the pokemon intended to be killed by it are either dealt more damage by STAB close combat, or Gallade is just too slow to get the punch off on a pokemon (Ex: Ice Punch for Gliscor or Salamence). Jolly nature might seem like a little overkill if there is a priority move but it allows Gallade to beat Adamant DD Gyarados who might think it is an easy switch in as well as Modest Togekiss and Adamant Lucario (Though the ladder might just E-Speed).</p>

So basically, the things this set does are:
  • Finish off frailer faster pokemon
  • Allows Gallade to deal with faster ghosts/psychics (Ex: Gengar, Latias, and Starmie)
  • Priority
<p>The main thing being here is the issue of speed and how to deal with it. Gallade just doesn't have the raw enough speed to be able to work as effectively in the OU tier like Salamence as a physical sweeper, but Shadow Sneak gives Gallade a way of seperating it from other charge-up sweepers. Here are some calc's of what a Gallade at +2 can do (Hopefully showing it's potential)<p/>

Shadow Sneak vs Standard Gengar: 127.9%-150.9%
Shadow Sneak vs Sweeping Latias: 80.3%-94.7%(Small chance to OHKO with SR)
Shadow Sneak vs Sweeping Azelf: 101.1%-120.2%
Shadow Sneak vs Scarf Rotom (Any Forme): 85.9%-101.6%
Shadow Sneak vs Sweeping Jolteon: 61.3%-72.4%
Shadow Sneak vs Sweeping Starmie: 96.5%-113.7% (OHKO's after SR)
+1 Psycho Cut vs DD Gyarados (Factoring in Intimidate): 79.1%-93.3% (Always OHKO after SR)
CloseCombat vs Standard Vaporeon: 108.7%-128.1%
Close Combat vs Standard Suicune: 79.7%-94.3% (Good chance to OHKO after SR)
Close Combat vs Standard Skarmory: 87.4%-103.2% (Very high chance to always OHKO after SR)
(I'll do any other calc's if you want me too. The last five were mainly to show the raw power of Gallade)

So yeah that's the set with some explanation. If you have any questions please ask them. Thanks.

Why not just add shadow sneak as a option in of the moveslots of the swords dancer set already on site?

Would you like to instead update the SD set on-site? It is pretty outdated, and I think you seem to know what you're talking about here.

Well, the prose isn't quite up to par as some of the other analyses on site. You can either try to fix it yourself using the appropriate format or ask one of the C&C writers (like myself) to help you along with it.

Okay, lol, do you think I could get some help with writing it? Also, if I'm rewriting the whole Gallade set I understand I'm going to need to change a lot of things. The main point I was putting forth was for Shadow Sneak being one of Gallade moves that benefit him the most.

You think you can include some insight as to why this should be used over Lucario? If you were to look at Dragonite's page, for example, there are numerous references to how its sets function differently than Salamence, and rightfully so, because they're very similar Pokemon and function almost identically as sweepers.

Gallade faces a similar dilemma, as the already prominent Lucario functions primarily the same and is usually the better choice for a team. To address this, you should at least make some reference as to what differentiates it from Lucario as a priority-abusing SD sweeper.
