[Overview]

Galvantula secures its niche on hyper offense teams as the fastest viable Sticky Web setter, outspeeding key Pokemon such as defensive Eternatus and Palkia while crippling them with a Thunder Wave. Its powerful STAB Thunder allows it to threaten common Defoggers such as Yveltal and Ho-Oh, keeping Sticky Web up as long as it is on the field. However, Galvantula suffers from paltry bulk and middling power. This relegates it to a lead position, having next to no defensive utility. It only fits on dedicated Sticky Web teams, and even then it can face competition from Pokemon such as Slurpuff and Shuckle, with the former having Magic Coat and Misty Explosion, while the latter has Stealth Rock and Sturdy, freeing up its item slot. It also loses to opposing hyper offense leads such as Aerodactyl and Froslass, which can play constant mind games between Taunt and their own entry hazards due to their higher Speed and ways of breaking its Focus Sash.

[SET COMMENTS]

Toxic puts Pokemon that would love to set up on Galvantula, such as Zekrom and Zygarde, on a timer, crippling them if they lack a Lum Berry. String Shot is a speed control option against Electric-type Pokemon like Regieleki, which are immune to Thunder Wave. Compound Eyes boosts Thunder's accuracy to 91%, making it a much more consistent and useful option, as well as making Toxic always hit. A Timid nature ensures Galvantula can outspeed foes such as Lunala, Mew, and offensive Yveltal.

Wallbreakers like Choice Specs Kyogre, Xerneas, and offensive Eternatus greatly appreciate Sticky Web letting them outspeed their checks. All of them have good offensive synergy as Xerneas, for example, can break through Kyogre checks such as Palkia and Eternatus, while Kyogre can beat Necrozma-DM for it. Galvantula also enjoys the support of offensive Stealth Rock users or and anti-entry hazard Pokemon such as Necrozma-DM and Excadrill.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
====

Bug Buzz is an option that severely damages Grass-types that would otherwise not care about anything else Galvantula has, OHKOing Tangrowth and Zarude, as well as having the added benefit of going through Substitute. However, this leaves it as setup fodder for Zekrom and Zygarde, two notably dangerous Pokemon.

Checks and Counters
====

**Dragon-type Pokemon**: Even with Toxic, Galvantula simply lacks ways to threaten Zekrom due to its 4x resistance to Electric and paralysis immunity. Zekrom can easily set up a Substitute and boost up with Dragon Dance before sweeping Galvantula's team. While Eternatus lacks the paralysis immunity of Zekrom, it resists Thunder and is immune to Toxic, so it uses Galvantula as Toxic Spikes fodder or a chance to safely switch in and start wallbreaking. Zygarde-C can easily set up on Galvantula due to its Electric immunity, although Toxic does annoy variants lacking Rest. Rare sights in Dialga and Giratina do not care about Thunder Wave due to running defensive sets and can set up entry hazards or remove Sticky Web with Defog, respectively. Notable Dragon-types that don’t check Galvantula well include Palkia and Rayquaza due to their Electric neutrality.

**Faster Leads**: Pokemon such as Aerodactyl and Froslass can prevent Sticky Web from going up by using Taunt while setting their own entry hazards. Grimmsnarl has Prankster Taunt to also stop Sticky Web. Slurpuff is not faster, nor does it have Taunt, but Magic Coat bounces back Sticky Web, which is detrimental for teams that rely on it to function. All of these Pokemon dislike the possible paralysis chance from Thunder, however, as paralysis prevents them from playing sufficient mind games with Galvantula.

**Anti-Sticky Web Pokemon**: Defoggers such as defensive Xerneas, Giratina-O, and Lunala all do not take much from a Thunder and can easily remove Sticky Web while breaking Galvantula's Focus Sash, although Lunala is quite annoyed by Toxic. Flying-type wallbreakers such as Landorus-I and offensive Yveltal do not mind Sticky Web, but they don't enjoy switching into Toxic or Thunder, respectively. Excadrill can remove Sticky Web with Rapid Spin and is immune to both Thunder Wave and Toxic.

  • It also loses to opposing hyper offense leads such as Aerodactyl and Froslass, who can outspeed it, Taunt it, and proceed to put up entry hazards while breaking its Focus Sash.

not really. yes, it loses to aerodactyl and froslass, but they just click taunt, and if they're lucky, they can put up their hazards. let's be serious, you never click webs t1 knowing they have taunt. so you click thunder, and then, you have a 30% chance of paralyzing them, so you either:

1] just get taunted and no side gets hazards (if you have the para)
2] get taunted and they get their hazards up (if you don't have the para)

but you will always keep your sash up. even if they click hazards t1 and you click thunder, you can still have the paralysis, which allows you to set up webs after that. otherwise, they just click taunt afterwards, which makes you end if the same situation as 2].

sry if it was pretty long, i had to make that ho lead vs ho lead situation clear

name: Sticky Web Setter

that set is not good. moveslot 4 should be toxic with a slash for string shot. later in your analysis, you're saying galvantula gives a free set up to zygarde and zekrom, which is completely false if you use toxic. yes, they can still set dragon dances up, but you directly put them on a timer, which is a lot better than what bug buzz and energy ball can do to them. i guess string shot's use is if you have no zekrom/zygarde/groudon check and you absolutely don't want them to be faster than your team, or if you run spectral thief marshadow and want a free boost. this is still way better than everything bug buzz and energy ball will ever do, truth be told.

  • Volt Switch is an option in the fourth moveslot to provide momentum for teammates. However, this leaves Galvantula unable to touch opposing Ground-types and is easily blocked by Groudon.

this is also garbage. i guess you CAN mention bug buzz here, it has the merit of OHKOing tangrowth (i don't know how you would ever be in a situation when galvantula ends up vs a tangrowth but w/e), but no mention of energy ball, please.

**Zekrom**: Even with Bug Buzz, Galvantula simply lacks ways to threaten Zekrom due to its 4x resistance to Electric and Paralysis immunity, rendering it setup fodder for it. It can easily set up a Substitute and boost up with Dragon Dance before sweeping the opposing team.

**Dragon-type Pokemon**: While Eternatus lacks the Paralysis immunity Zekrom, it resists everything else Galvantula has while either laying Toxic Spikes or using offensive moves. Zygarde-C can easily setup on Galvantula due to its Electric immunity as well as Energy Ball being unable to break a Substitute, although Bug Buzz does chip offensive variants quite a bit. Rare sights in Dialga and Giratina-Altered do not care about possible paralysis from Thunder Wave due to running defensive sets and can set up entry hazards or Defog Sticky Web away, respectively. Notable exceptions include Palkia and Rayquaza due to their Electric neutrality.

this makes you having to rework this completely by removing every mention of bug buzz and adding toxic (and string shot if u want), so what i would do is just remove the zekrom section and add him in the dragon type pokemon section.

Slurpuff is not faster nor does it have Taunt, but Magic Coat bounces back Sticky Web, which is detrimental for teams that rely on it to function.

you just click thunder twice and kill it, allowing you to set up webs after. remove this pls

idk if i missed anything so implement every changes i made, and then i'll QC this.

I don’t like the above with regards to dealing with other HO leads, because you are assuming they will just Taunt - what if they read your Thunder and attack instead? At best it’s mindgames either way.

Assuming you thunder, Aero can just Rock Tomb and unless you para, he is faster than you.

Froslass can Spike on your Thunder and unless you para, He can Taunt you next turn. If you attack on that turn, you now have a Galvantula that can only attack for two turns, just enough to break through it’s sash. If you webbed that turn, then Froslass can Icy Wind on that turn to break your sash.

Slurpuff can endeavor if you thunder and unless you para, will become faster next turn thanks to Unburden.

Thunder’s para chance is pretty good, but you also have to factor in the 91% accuracy chance as well. It’s certainly not super likely to pop in 1 turn.

Implemented.

Regarding the leads thing, it doesn't look like the two QC members that commented on this aren't in agreement, so what I decided to do was emphasize the mindgames stated by Manaphy while keeping both mentions of them. Idk if this is right or not and I'm perfectly fine with changing it if need be, but that's what I did for now.

Also forgot to write it up, sorry.

I would add a sentence in the second paragraph of set details that tackles team options to provide SR / anti-hazard to pair with Galvantula.

C&C should also include any Pokemon capable of functioning as anti-hazard against Galvantula.

Galvantula secures itself a niche on hyper offense teams as the fastest viable Sticky Web setter, outspeeding key Pokemon such as defensive Eternatus and Palkia while crippling them with a Thunder Wave. Its Electric typing (if Electric typing only matters here for giving thunder STAB, it should just be "Its powerful STAB Thunder allows it to...") and powerful STAB option in Thunder allows it to threaten common Defoggers such as Yveltal and Ho-Oh, keeping Sticky Web up as long as it is on the field. However, Galvantula suffers from paltry bulk and middling power in the Ubers tier. This results in it being relegated relegates it to a lead position, having next to no defensive utility. Its role as a Sticky Web setter is niche enough that it only fits on these types of teams, It only fits on dedicated Sticky Web teams, (I imagine?) and even then it can face competition from Pokemon such as Slurpuff and Shuckle, with the former having Magic Coat and Misty Explosion, while the latter having has Stealth Rock and Sturdy, freeing up its item slot. It also loses to opposing hyper offense leads such as Aerodactyl and Froslass, who which can play constant mindgames mind games (consistency) between Taunt and their own entry hazards due to their faster higher Speed and ways of breaking its Focus Sash.
