[SET COMMENTS]
Garchomp performs as an excellent lead for Dragon teams, as it can set its own entry hazards while also being able to threaten common entry hazard setters such as Jirachi and Ferrothorn. Stealth Rock is invaluable for Dragon teams due to its ability to wear down the opposing team, which enables the multitude of sweepers Dragon teams have. Toxic punishes physical walls such as Slowbro, Porygon2, and Rotom-W that tend to switch on it. Fire Blast threatens Steel-types unbothered by Earthquake, such as Ferrothorn and Skarmory. Dragon Tail allows Garchomp to disrupt setup sweepers such as Mega Scizor, Volcarona, and Mega Aerodactyl. 240 Speed EVs with a Jolly nature allows Garchomp to deal with threats such as Jirachi and Nidoking, while 20 SpDef EVs allow Garchomp to survive a Dazzling Gleam from Choice Specs Tapu Koko and OHKO it with Earthquake. Rocky Helmet, in tandem with Rough Skin, allows Garchomp to punish physical attackers such as Mega Lopunny and Urshifu-R, and pivots such as Landorus-T and Mandibuzz.

Sweepers such as Kommo-o and Mega Altaria greatly appreciate Garchomp's ability to set entry hazards and wear down the opposing team, as it allows them to clean through Steel, Dark, and Normal teams and Dark and Dragon teams, respectively. Kyurem also appreciates Garchomp's ability to wear down opposing defensive pieces such as Porygon2 with Toxic, as it enables Kyurem to break defensive cores of Normal and Poison teams more easily with a SubRoost or Choice Specs set. Dragalge pairs well with Garchomp, as they form a hazard stacking core with Toxic Spikes and Stealth Rocks, and as Dragalge can switch on special attackers such as Mega Diancie and Tapu Fini, which Garchomp cannot handle. Choice Scarf Latias is a fast team mate that can remove threats such as Choice Scarf Galarian Darmanitan and Mega Lopunny.

[SET]
name: Swords Dance (Dragon)
move 1: Swords Dance
move 2: Earthquake
move 3: Stone Edge
move 4: Stealth Rock / Scale Shot
item: Focus Sash
ability: Rough Skin
nature: Jolly
evs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]
With a Swords Dance set, Garchomp acts as a late-game cleaner or a wallbreaker that can break teams such as Poison, Normal, and Dragon. Swords Dance allows Garchomp to pressure bulky Pokemon such as Mega Venusaur, Toxapex, and Slowbro. Stone Edge hits Flying-types that switch on Garchomp such as Mandibuzz, Zapdos, and Crobat. Stealth Rock allows Garchomp to double as an entry hazard setter, while Scale Shot solidifies its role as a late-game cleaner, as it allows Garchomp to outspeed checks such as Choice Scarf Galarian Darmanitan, Choice Scarf Tapu Lele, and Tapu Koko. A Jolly nature allows Garchomp to outspeed and remove Mimikyu and Kyurem, while Focus Sash allows Garchomp to secure hazards, or remove problematic Pokemon such as Choice Scarf Galarian Darmanitan, Tapu Koko, or Mega Diancie.

Choice Scarf Latias greatly helps Garchomp as it can take out threats such as Mega Lopunny and non-Choice Scarf Greninja which Garchomp cannot handle, has access to Defog to preserve Garchomp's Focus Sash, and can provide Healing Wish to give Garchomp a second chance to wallbreak. Duraldon offensively checks Fairy- and Ice-types such as Mega Diancie and Weavile for Garchomp. Kommo-o appreciates Garchomp's ability to soften defensive cores, as it can allow Kommo-o to sweep Steel, Flying, and Poison teams late-game. Similarly, Mega Altaria appreciates Garchomp's ability to pressure bulky Pokemon such as Dragonite, Mandibuzz, and Cobalion, allowing Mega Altaria to sweep Dragon, Dark, and Fighting teams late-game. Dragalge is a special pivot that provides Toxic Spikes to wear down defensive walls such as Porygon2 for Garchomp.

Dragon
--------

Leftovers may be used on Defensive and Swords Dance sets to improve its longevity, but the lack of Rocky Helmet or Focus Sash reduces Garchomp's ability to chip the opposing team or guarantee Stealth Rocks, respectively. Roar may be considered over Dragon Tail as it also phazes the opposing Pokemon, but trades chip damage for the ability to bypass Substitute, but there are no notable Substitute users in the tier. Substitute may be used in Swords Dance sets to ease predictions and evade status from Toxapex and Blissey, but the lack of coverage reduces Garchomp's offensive presence. A Choice Scarf set with Outrage, Earthquake, Stone Edge, and Stealth Rock may be used as it allows Garchomp to remove counters such as Choice Scarf Galarian Darmanitan, Mega Diancie, and Choice Scarf Tapu Lele, but Dragon teams already have Speed control in the form of Choice Scarf Latias.
