Here I am again with another rmt, this time on a team I made yesterday. I literally spent like three and a half hours of just testing this team earlier afternoon and I feel like I finally got it. I made this team in memory of Greninja, who gamefreak decided to remove it from the game even tho it is the most popular pokemon because of their Charizard fetish. This team was more reliable than my sand team except in the dumb rng part. Before I present the team, a moment of silence for our froggy friend
So, here is how I came up with the team. First off, is the main core, which is something I rarely do since I prefer to build a team around one pokemon
+
Aside from the fact that I wanted something as close to the old Garchomp + Greninja from last gen, I chose this core because Keldeo can bring Garchomp in safely as it's counters are pretty much forced to come in, allowing for easy flip turn
For the next two, I wanted some pokemon that doesn't die to rain while also stuffing opposing Garchomp and Landorus while not instantly dying to dark Urshifu
+
Lastly, I wanted one of the birds on my team and a dedicated fairy slayer, so I used
+
Now, onto more details on what their job is supposed to be
Soviet Shark (Garchomp) @ Life Orb
Ability: Rough Skin
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Stone Edge
- Scale Shot
- Earthquake
- Swords Dance
Do not believe them my comrades. Speed is nothing more than an american propaganda. We will fight this war and win, the soviet way. Since this is the third team I'm using Garchomp with in the rmt, and I'm sure others have already used something similar, I won't bother explaining the moveset. Instead, I will explain the nature. I have had enough of Clefable or Tapu Fini surviving an earthquake after swords dance with literally one hp so I decided to just use adamant to instantly drop those two against players who hope to cut short my Garchomp's attacks by surviving with one hp and damaging it. Chomp doesn't die but having its sweep or wall breaking cut short due to stupid fairy attacks + life orb recoil is so annoying. This does leave it outsped by Urshifu but really, who would use wicked blow over sucker punch when facing a Garchomp
Keldeo-Resolute @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Justified
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Surf
- Icy Wind
- Flip Turn
- Secret Sword
The closest thing we'll ever get to Greninja as an offensive water type, thanks a lot gamefreak. Now, despite how hostile ou is towards Keldeo, I decided to use him simply because it is still a threat and if you don't contain it something is gonna die. The main reason I am using Keldeo is simple, the weathers. It abuses opposing rain and destroys opposing sand, hard. Flip turn is one of my favorite moves and Keldeo getting it is perfect. Now, it can just slip out of any containment attempts so I can deal with it accordingly. Usually I would use specs or life orb on Keldeo but I gave up on that. It's speed was just too valuable not to abuse and killing lead Pheromosas is always nice. I chose surf over hydro miss because I'm on the verge of uninstalling pokemon showdown from my laptop because hydro pump missed twice and it cost me a battle. Icy wind is there just to catch some random Dragapults or other faster threats off guard, slowing them down. This pokemon basically serves as the team's main sweeper if Garchomp cannot get into a position to sweep while doubling as a half wall breaker under opposing rain
Tangrowth @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Def / 8 SpD
Relaxed Nature
- Toxic
- Knock Off
- Leech Seed
- Power Whip
I mentioned earlier that I wanted a pokemon that can deal with rain, so why not Ferrothorn? Well, for one thing that barracuda pokemon just close combats its way thru Ferrothorn, for another, Ferrothorn does not stuff Garchomp the way Tangrowth does. This is why I chose Tangrowth over something like Buzzwall, because Buzzwall gets destroyed by rain boosted attacks. Also, another one of the criteria I wanted for a pokemon to stuff Garchomp was one that doesn't lose to Tapu Fini. Tangrowth fits these roles perfectly well as it doesn't care about the barracuda's attacks, it stuffs Garchomp, it doesn't lose to Tapu Fini, it's not weak to anything Rillaboom throws at it while doesn't instantly die to dark Urshifu. Banded dark Urshifu wicked blow only does I believe 53% if it gets the max roll so while not that good of a solution, Tangrowth does the job rather well. As for the set itself, since I switch this thing a lot, I decided to give it heavy duty boots to avoid any rocks damage. This proved to be a good thing as Tangrowth usually gets poisoned a lot so removing rocks from the equation limits the damage and it has incredibly longevity on top of that. Leech seed and knock off is there to be as annoying as Ferrothorn and toxic is well, toxic. Power whip is the main offensive move for Tapu Fini. Now wait, this does wall the barracuda but the rain abusing birds destroy it, well here's where the next pokemon comes in
Tyranitar @ Leftovers
Ability: Sand Stream
EVs: 248 HP / 8 SpA / 252 SpD
Sassy Nature
- Fire Blast
- Dark Pulse
- Rock Blast
- Stealth Rock
While Tangrowth handles the main rain offensive, Tyranitar handles the birds. Keldeo also absolutely destroys the birds but there is no way it is switching in to their hurricanes. Godzilla on the other hand, can do just that all day. Surprisingly, I ended up liking Tyranitar a lot more than I ever did in the previous gens. As Tangrowth has the physical defense side, Tyranitar has the special although it is more of a slow down sign than an actual wall plus, you can never be too safe against Spectrier. Dark pulse is the main stab move intended to destroy said horse while doing more damage than crunch against Slowbro, rock blast to break subs and fire blast to roast Ferrothorn and other steel types that attempt to switch in. I just went with sassy because I'm using all of its stats and I sometimes like to mess with Pelipper by us leading with our weather setters. Since rain will be overridden, I get free rocks
Zapdos @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Static
EVs: 248 HP / 236 Def / 24 SpD
Bold Nature
- Defog
- Roost
- Hurricane
- Volt Switch
For this pokemon, I really wanted to use Moltres. However, I've been encountering some random Hawluchas so I decided to use the ultimate middle finger against Hawlucha, Zapdos. This pokemon is so annoying because it has the same problems as Tyranitar, it's spoiled and wants a lot of moves but mama gamefreak only wants it to use four. Since this team aims to abuse opposing rain while at the same time controlling it, I went with Hurricane as the main stab. That way, I can abuse it before I decide to remove the rain with Tyranitar. Volt switch is the secondary stab that brings in my heavy hitters safely while the other two are there for hazard control and longevity
Nidoking @ Life Orb
Ability: Sheer Force
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Substitute
- Ice Beam
- Earth Power
- Sludge Wave
Finally, the dedicated fairy slayer, Nidoking. This pokemon is a lot of fun to use as aside from its stabs, you never know what coverage it is running until it is revealed. I decided to use substitute to make this even more annoying with ice beam to hit the flying types. Also, killing that annoying defensive Landorus is always gonna be so satisfying. This does get walled by Ferrothorn but really, Ferrothorn cannot withstand NIdoking in a prolonged battle, especially since it's gonna lose its leftovers in an attempt to block Tangrowth's leech seed
This team does have a couple unorthodox mons but they work so there's that. Usually, my teams have four defensive mons and two attackers but I've had enough of that. While I'm still not that offensive of a player, I've been slowly trying to adjust to a more offensive playstyle and this team kinda helped me since it is so vulnerable to qd Pheromosa so either I play aggressively or the roach infests my team. That's about it so any help would be appreciated
