UU Gardevoir [3/3] [2/2]

[OVERVIEW]

Gardevoir has a useful niche thanks to Trace, which makes it one of the few Pokemon that is able to wall Thundurus-T thanks to Volt Absorb. It can also copy other useful abilities like Regenerator from Slowking or Beast Boost from Nihilego. Gardevoir can be relatively difficult to switch into due to its great STAB type combination alongside Mystical Fire covering Steel-types. It can also run utility options such as Trick and Knock Off to punish common checks such as Chansey, Tangrowth, and Aegislash. However, Gardevoir's mediocre Speed tier leaves it slower than Pokemon like Kommo-o, Excadrill, and Hydreigon. Even with Choice Scarf, it can't revenge kill threats like boosted Dragon Dance Gyarados and Salamence. Gardevoir's low Defense stat prevents it from reliably taking advantage of its defensive typing, as threats like Conkeldurr can still overwhelm it. It also faces some competition from other Fairy- and Psychic-types. Primarina is even harder to switch into and provides more defensive utility through its typing and better bulk, while Hatterene provides entry hazard control with Magic Bounce and is more dangerous with its Calm Mind set; however, Gardevoir does boast a much better Speed tier than its competition.

move 3: Trick / Mystical Fire
move 4: Healing Wish
item: Choice Scarf
ability: Trace
nature: Timid

[SET COMMENTS]

Psyshock is preferred over Psychic, as it hits Nihilego harder. Trick can cripple switch-ins like Assault Vest Tangrowth, Chansey, and Slowking. Mystical Fire hits Steel-types like Excadrill, Aegislash, and Celesteela on the switch; however, it only really does significant damage to offensive variants of them. Healing Wish can provide a teammate like Lycanroc-D the freedom to wallbreak early-game and clean late-game. With Choice Scarf, Gardevoir is capable of revenge killing Pokemon like Zygarde-10% and Hydreigon.

Gardevoir fits primarily on bulky offense teams that value it providing insurance against rain teams and utility with Trick and Healing Wish. Wallbreakers like Conkeldurr and Kommo-o can remove Gardevoir's checks such as Aegislash and Chansey without it having to give up its Choice Scarf using Trick. Gardevoir can struggle to take advantage of its defensive typing, so partners like Amoonguss and Mandibuzz provide secondary checks to foes like Conkeldurr and Hydreigon, respectively. Late-game cleaners like Lycanroc-D and Kommo-o appreciate Healing Wish providing them with a second chance to sweep; the former is vulnerable to wearing itself down with Life Orb. In return, Lycanroc-D can revenge kill threats that Gardevoir is unable to outspeed, like Dragon Dance Salamence and Gyarados. Gardevoir often gives free turns to Aegislash and Excadrill, so partners that can help check them are required. Zarude checks both and appreciates Gardevoir removing its checks like Amoonguss, Kommo-o, and Salamence in return. Moltres and Thundurus-T can take on other Steel-types like Jirachi and Celesteela for Gardevoir and bring it in safely with their pivoting moves. Entry hazards from Krookodile and Excadrill make it easier for Gardevoir to revenge kill foes like Galarian Moltres. Both appreciate Gardevoir's ability to switch into Thundurus-T, as its Focus Blast can easily overwhelm them.

[SET]
name: Offensive
move 1: Moonblast
move 2: Psyshock
move 3: Mystical Fire
move 4: Knock Off
item: Heavy-Duty Boots
ability: Trace
nature: Timid
evs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]

Psyshock does more damage against Nihilego and Chansey. Psychic can be considered to hit Amoonguss harder, but Psyshock 2HKOes it regardless. Mystical Fire helps wear down Steel-types like Aegislash and Jirachi. Knock Off allows Gardevoir to remove key items like Chansey's Eviolite and Tangrowth's Assault Vest, making them susceptible to KOs from Psyshock or Mystical Fire, respectively, if weakened. Gardevoir should try to remove their items on the switch, but if Gardevoir copies Chansey's Natural Cure with Trace, it can stay in and not mind Toxic. Healing Wish is an option in the last moveslot to support teammates like Nidoqueen. Thunder Wave can be used to cripple foes that may attempt to switch in on a resisted hit, such as Jirachi and Nihilego.

Gardevoir fits best on bulky offense teams that appreciate its ability to force progress and provide utility with Trace. Despite Knock Off crippling special walls such as Chansey and Celesteela, Gardevoir still greatly appreciates partners that can overwhelm them such as Heracross and Kommo-o. Kommo-o can also help deal with Aegislash thanks to Bulletproof and check revenge killers like Zarude. Other special attackers like Thundurus-T and Hydreigon appreciate Gardevoir's Knock Off making these special walls much easier to break through. Pivots like Rotom-W and Zarude help Gardevoir enter safely. Entry hazard setters like Krookodile and Nihilego provide Stealth Rock to help bring Pokemon like offensive Jirachi into 2HKO range of Mystical Fire. Krookodile can also check Ghost-types like Aegislash and Chandelure and pressure Psychic-types Gardevoir has issues breaking through, such as Assault Vest Reuniclus and Galarian Slowbro. Skarmory can provide Spikes support to wear down these foes and check Excadrill. Secondary Hydreigon checks such as Chansey and Mandibuzz can alleviate Gardevoir's inability to consistently switch into Dark Pulse.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

Taunt shuts down bulkier walls like Chansey and Gastrodon; however, it doesn't have much other use. Choice Specs makes Gardevoir a much scarier wallbreaker to switch into; however, being Choice locked makes it fairly easy to take advantage of when paired with its mediocre Speed tier.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Steel-types**: Jirachi and Excadrill are faster than Gardevoir and can threaten to OHKO it with Iron Head. Specially defensive Aegislash can shrug off Mystical Fire, though variants lacking bulk investment will take a sizable chunk. Celesteela is able to take multiple Mystical Fires from Gardevoir, though it doesn't appreciate Knock Off removing its Leftovers. However, Trick cripples all of these Steel-types, besides Jirachi if it's also carrying a Choice Scarf.

**Specially Defensive Pokemon**: Chansey walls Gardevoir comfortably, even after losing its Eviolite. Tangrowth can stomach multiple hits from Gardevoir, even without Assault Vest. Although Rhyperior doesn't resist any of Gardevoir's attacks, it has the natural bulk to stomach multiple hits and threaten a KO back.

**Faster Pokemon**: Foes like Lycanroc-D and Nihilego outpace non-Choice Scarf Gardevoir and threaten to OHKO it. Sweepers like Dragon Dance Salamence and Gyarados can outspeed even Choice Scarf Gardevoir after a boost.

[OVERVIEW]

- Gardevoir has a useful niche as a special attacker that is relatively difficult to pivot into (Why? Is it Garde's STAB combo? Clarify) alongside being able to run more utility options such as Knock Off and Taunt (taunt is an OO which shouldn't be in the overview I believe) to punish common checks such as Chansey, Tangrowth, and Aegislash.

- Trace is also a great trait in Gardevoir's arsenal that allows it to copy many great abilities. Tracing Swift Swim gives it a good matchup against rain teams, it walls Thundurus-T once tracing Volt Absorb, and it can copy Beast Boost from the likes of Buzzwole making it harder to check if it picks up a KO.

- However, Gardevoir is held back by a mediocre Speed tier that leaves it coming up short to the likes of Kommo-o and Timid Nidoking.

- It has a low Defense stat that prevents Gardevoir from reliably taking any hit other than the Fighting-type moves it quad resists.

-mention the competition it faces from other psychic and fairy types like primarina, hatterene, and necrozma

- Mystical Fire helps wear down Steel-types like Aegislash and Jirachi. you can also add it makes gardevoir tougher to pivot into from threats like AV glowbro or whatever you come up with

- Knock Off allows Gardevoir to remove key items like Chansey's Eviolite and Tangrowth's Assault Vest making them susceptible to being removed by Psyshock or Mystical Fire respectively if weakened.

- Healing Wish is an option in the last slot to give a teammate another opportunity to fulfill their role.

- Thunder Wave can be used to cripple foes such as Jirachi and Nihilego that may attempt to pivot in on a resisted hit.

- Heavy-Duty Boots is preferred to prevent Gardevoir from being worn down by entry hazards making it a more effective offensive pivot.

-bring up entry hazards to help garde wallbreak

-try to talk more about Pokemon beating steel-types for garde, you can bring it up in the examples you already have or make it a new bullet point

- Taunt is an option that lets Gardevoir shut down bulkier walls like Chansey and Gastrodon; however, it struggles to find much use of it besides from these matchups.

- A Choice Scarf makes Gardevoir a decent revenge killer that puts it faster than Barraskewda under rain. It should be used alongside Trick to cripple bulkier foes like Aegislash and Chansey.

Celesteela is able to take multiple Mystical Fire from Gardevoir though it doesn't appreciate having its only form of recovery in Leftovers being removed by Knock Off.

**Specially Defensive Pokemon**: Chansey walls Gardevoir comfortably even after losing its Eviolite, so unless severely weakened Gardevoir doesn't post a threat to it. Likewise, Tangrowth can still afford to stomach multiple hits from Gardevoir even after losing its Assault Vest. Although Rhyperior doesn't resist any of Gardevoir's attacks it has the natural bulk to stomach multiple hits and threatens to KO back.

**Faster Pokemon**: Gardevoir is outpaced by a majority of foes such as Lycanroc-D, Nihilego, and Entei Jirachi (you already mentioned jirachi so wouldnt hurt to have a new example) that all threaten to OHKO it.

Paragraph 1
- Moonblast nails Pokemon like Kommo-o and Salamence Maybe also mention its ability to revenge kill Swift Swim users like Barraskewda and Kingdra in rain.

- Psyshock is preferred to Psychic as it hits Nihilego and Calm Mind Keldeo harder

- Trick can cripple foes like Assault Vest Tangrowth, Chansey, and Aegislash that attempt to pivot into Gardevoir.

- Healing Wish can provide a teammate with a second life potentially changing the outcome of a game. I'd maybe delve into this point a bit more specifically by bringing up wallbreakers it can support by allowing them more freedom to punch holes early-game. Right now the point feels a little overly vague.

- Mystical Fire nails Steel-types like Aegislash and Celesteela on the switch; however, it only really does significant damage to offensive variants of them, so Trick is generally preferred to hinder them instead.

- With a Choice Scarf Gardevoir is capable of outspeeding Barraskewda under rain after Tracing Swift Swim.

Even when equipped with a Choice Scarf, (AC) it falls short of being able to revenge kill threats like Salamence after a Dragon Dance. It has a low Defense stat that prevents Gardevoir from reliably taking most hits other than the Fighting-type moves it quad resists. This could be rephrased to say that it's low defense stat makes garde unable to make good use of its defensive typing considering it can't even switch in all that safely to Shao Gardevoir faces some competition from other Psychic- and Fairy-types. Primarina hits harder, It only has one base stat point over gard and its most common set doesn't use special attack investment so remove this has a more difficult STAB combination to wall, and provides more defensive utility. Mystical Fire nails hits (avoid repetition) Steel-types like Aegislash and Celesteela on the switch; however, it only really does significant damage to offensive variants of them, so Trick is generally preferred. Healing Wish can provide a teammate like Lycanroc-D the freedom to wallbreak early and provide a second chance to clean late-game (add hyphen). With Choice Scarf Gardevoir is capable of revenge killing Pokemon like Zygarde-10% and, thanks to Trace, Barraskewda under rain.
(add a line break)
Gardevoir fits primarily on bulky offense teams that value the insurance against rain teams and the utility it provides with options like Trick and Healing Wish. Wallbreakers like Entei and Kommo-o can remove Gardevoir's checks like such as (avoid repetition) Aegislash and Chansey without it having to give up its Choice Scarf using Trick. Gardevoir can struggle to take advantage of its defensive typing, (add comma) so partners like Amoonguss and Aegislash can be secondary checks to foes like Mienshao and Salamence. Late-game cleaners like Lycanroc-D and Nihilego appreciate Gardevoir providing them with a second chance to sweep thanks to Healing Wish, (period->comma) the former in particular being prone to wearing itself down with Life Orb. In return, Lycanroc-D can revenge kill threats like Dragon Dance Salamence and Gyarados which that Gardevoir is unable to outspeed after a Dragon Dance boost. Gardevoir often gives free turns to Aegislash, (add comma) so partners that can help check them are required. Zarude checks Aegislash and appreciates Gardevoir removing its checks like Amoonguss, Kommo-o, and Salamence in return. Moltres and Rotom-W can take on other Steel-types like Jirachi and Celesteela for Gardevoir (remove comma) as well as and bring it in safely with their pivoting moves. Entry hazards from Krookodile and Rhyperior can help ease the ability for make it easier Gardevoir to revenge kill foes like Entei. Both also appreciate Gardevoir's ability to be a more reliable pivot into Thundurus-T, (add comma) as they can be easily overwhelmed by Focus Blast.

Moonblast hits foes such as Salamence and Galarian Moltres. (sentence adds nothing) Psyshock allows Gardevoir to do more damage against Nihilego and Chansey. Psychic can be considered as it hits to hit Amoonguss harder, (add comma) but it can still be 2HKOed by Psyshock regardless. Mystical Fire helps wear down Steel-types like Aegislash and Jirachi, the Special Attack drop also making it easier to let a teammate take a hit from the former better and the Special Attack drop allows teammates to switch into them more easily. Knock Off allows Gardevoir to remove key items like Chansey's Eviolite and Tangrowth's Assault Vest, (comma) making them susceptible to being removed KOed by Psyshock or Mystical Fire if weakened, respectively. Gardevoir should try to remove their items on the switch as they can punish it otherwise (don't they punish garde even if you knock them?), but if Gardevoir traces Chansey's Natural Cure, (comma) it can avoid being crippled by Toxic. Healing Wish is an option in the last slot to give a teammate like Nidoqueen another opportunity to fulfill their role. Thunder Wave can be used to cripple foes such as Jirachi and Nihilego that may attempt to pivot in on a resisted hit. Heavy-Duty Boots is preferred to prevent Gardevoir from being worn down by entry hazards, (add comma) making it a more effective offensive pivot.

Gardevoir fits best on bulky offense teams that appreciate the progress it can force and the utility it provides through Trace. Despite having the ability to cripple special walls such as Chansey and Celesteela, Gardevoir still greatly appreciates partners that can overwhelm them such as Buzzwole, Entei, and Kommo-o. Kommo-o can also help deal with Aegislash thanks to Bulletproof and check revenge killers like Zarude. Other special attackers like Thundurus-T and Keldeo appreciate Gardevoir's ability to cripple these special walls, (comma) making them much easier to break through. Pivots like Rotom-W, Zarude, and Mienshao can help Gardevoir switch in safely, (period->comma) the former two being able to provide a safety net against rain teams, (comma) as Gardevoir can struggle to be a sole means to keep them in check due to it still being slower than Barraskewda. Entry hazard setters like Krookodile and Nihilego can provide Stealth Rock to help bring Pokemon like offensive Jirachi into 2HKO range of Mystical Fire. Krookodile can also help check Ghost-types like Aegislash and Chandelure, (remove comma) as well as and pressure Psychic-types Gardevoir has issues breaking through such as Assault Vest Reuniclus and Galarian Slowbro.

Taunt is an option that lets Gardevoir shut down bulkier walls like Chansey and Gastrodon; however, it struggles to find doesn't have much other use of it besides from these matchups. A Choice Specs is an option to make Gardevoir a much scarier wallbreaker to pivot into; however, being choice locked makes it fairly easy to take advantage of when paired alongside with its mediocre Speed tier.

Checks and Counters

**Steel-types**: Jirachi is faster than Gardevoir and can threaten to OHKO it with Iron Head. Jirachi also has the natural bulk to stomach Mystical Fire. Specially defensive Aegislash can shrug off Mystical Fire in Shield forme (remove hyphen), though variants lacking bulk will take a sizeable chunk. Celesteela is able to take multiple Mystical Fires from Gardevoir, (add comma) though it doesn't appreciate having its only form of recovery in Leftovers being removed by Knock Off. However, all of them, besides Jirachi if also carrying a Choice Scarf, don't appreciate being are crippled by Trick.

**Specially Defensive Pokemon**: Chansey walls Gardevoir comfortably even after losing its Eviolite, so unless severely weakened Gardevoir doesn't pose a threat to it. Likewise, Tangrowth can still afford to stomach multiple hits from Gardevoir even after losing its Assault Vest. Although Rhyperior doesn't resist any of Gardevoir's attacks, (comma) it has the natural bulk to stomach multiple hits and threatens to KO back.

**Faster Pokemon**: Non-Choice Scarf Gardevoir is outpaced by a the majority of foes, such as Lycanroc-D, Nihilego, and Entei, (add commas) that all threaten to OHKO it.
