Sand boosts Garganacl's already good SpDef bulk, allowing it to handily setup with Curse or Iron Defense to be a strong wincon, and if Mega Tyranitar was to be used, it could use Dragon Dance and utilize the chip Garganacl accumilates to sweep more easily.
+ The only Magic Guard users in the metagame are Clefable and Reuniclus, Mega Gengar can switch on the earlier's Moonblast and the later's Focus Blast and finish them handily for Garganacl to resume its work.
