[SET COMMENTS]
Gastrodon is a great special wall that can wall Manaphy and keep setup attackers like Clefable from setting up thanks to Clear Smog. Earthquake is used as its main attack, while also taking care of Heatran and Magnezone. Clear Smog gets rid of boosts from special setup attackers such as Clefable, Hydreigon, Reuniclus, and Manaphy. Toxic is used to cripple Pokemon that will try to come in on Gastrodon to threaten it out like Garchomp, Kyurem, and Slowking. Heavy-Duty Boots prevent Gastrodon from being worn down from entry hazards or poisoned from Toxic Spikes. Leftovers is an option over Heavy-Duty Boots to give Gastrodon passive recovery. Storm Drain is used to making Gastrodon serve as a Manaphy check while also allowing it to come in on Water-types like Greninja, Slowking, and Tapu Fini. A Sassy nature with 252 HP and 252 Special Defense EVs enables it to soak special attacks from Clefable, Magnezone, Mega Diancie, and Hydreigon.
Gastrodon fits well on balance and stall teams that need a check to Manaphy, Hydreigion, or Clefable. Mega Latias is a good partner that can come in on Grass-type attacks from Mega Venusaur, Serperior, and Rillaboom. Mega Charizard X also has great synergy with Gastrodon by coming in on Grass-type attacks from Rillaboom and Kartana and be able to force them out while Gastrodon can come in on attacks from Manaphy and Ash Greninja. Chansey and Blissey can come in on Tapu Lele's attacks, which Gastrodon has trouble taking. Skarmory is a great physical wall, which can come in on Rillaboom, Mega Mawile, and Garchomp's attacks. Corviknight is a great Tapu Lele check and can come in on Grass-type attacks from Kartana and Rillaboom. Heatran also goes well with Gastrodon, as it can serve as a great check to Grass-types like Serperior and Ferrothorn and help with Reuniclus. Tapu Koko and Mega Mawile, and also come in on Tapu Lele's attacks and help with Clefable if things get out of hand. Tapu Koko can greatly help with Mega Charizard Y, Garchomp, and Mega Medicham by forcing them out. Toxapex can help spread status with Toxic Spikes while being a great phaser for Pokemon like Jirachi and physical setup sweepers like Mega Charizard X, Mega Scizor, and Kommo-o. Pokemon like Ferrothorn and Gliscor can setup entry hazards which make it easier to deal with Hydreigon and Manaphy and wear down opposing Pokemon faster while Gastrodon puts them on a timer.

Other Options
=============
Ice Beam over Toxic is a niche option to do major damage to Landorus-T and Garchomp but is not worth it in the long while due to Toxic crippling Pokemon like Rillaboom, Mega Latias, and Mega Charizard Y that try to come in on it.
Checks and Counters
===================
**Grass-types**: Grass-types such as Mega Venusaur, Serperior, Amoongus, Kartana, Tangrowth, and Rillaboom all can OHKO Gastrdon with their STAB attacks. Pokemon that run Grass-type attacks like Tapu Koko, Mega Charizard Y, and Volcarona can surprise and do major damage to Gastrodon.
**Strong physical attacks**: Strong physical attacks from Garchomp, Mega Mawile, and Mega Medicham can do major damage or OHKO Gastrodon with their power STAB attacks.
**Tapu Lele**: Tapu Lele can easily 2HKO Gastrodon with Psychic under Psychic terrien.
**Kyurem**: Kyurem can OHKO Gastrodon with Freeze-Dry.
**Trick**: Trick from Jirachi cripples Gastrodon for the rest of the game, as it locks it into the first move it uses.
