Gastrodon has established a solid niche for itself in the OU metagame for its ability to check Pokemon like Rotom-H and Dragapult while almost completely shutting down rain teams. Earth Power is generally preferred over Earthquake to 2HKO Toxapex. Earth Power also isn't hampered by burn, a status condition Gastrodon will often have to deal with while checking Dragapult. Earthquake can be used instead if dealing more damage to Hatterene is desired, though. Earthquake should be used alongside a Sassy nature instead of a Calm nature to avoid hampering its damage output. Amnesia allows Gastrodon to shut down offensive Mantine, giving it a great matchup against rain teams. The given Special Defense investment alongside a Calm nature allows Gastrodon to survive two Draco Meteors from Choice Specs Dragapult. The rest of the EVs are put into Defense to improve Gastrodon's matchup against Dracovish. Pokemon that may struggle to deal with Rotom-H, such as Clefable, Mandibuzz, and Corviknight, benefit greatly from Gastrodon's presence. Gastrodon is also rather susceptible to Pokemon such as Hydreigon and prone to getting crippled by Toxic from Pokemon like Keldeo and Rotom-H. As such, it is wise to pair Gastrodon with clerics like Clefable and Sylveon; both can deal with Hydreigon and prevent Gastrodon from being crippled too significantly by Toxic.

Gastrodon has established a solid niche for itself in the OU metagame for its ability to check Pokemon like Rotom-H and Dragapult while almost completely shutting down rain teams. Earth Power is generally prefered to Earthquake to 2HKO Toxapex. It's worth mentioning that Earth Power is also not weakened by burn, which Dragapult likes to inflict. Earthquake can be used instead if dealing more damage to Hatterene is desired, though. Earthquake should be used alongside a Sassy nature instead of a Calm nature to avoid hampering its damage output. Amnesia allows Gastrodon to shut down offensive Mantine; this gives it a great matchup against rain teams. The given Special Defense investment alongside a Calm nature allow Gastrodon to survive two Draco Meteor's from Choice Specs Dragapult. 104 Defense EVs minimize the chance to get 2HKOed by Crunch from Choice Band Dracovish after Stealth Rock damage. Psychic Fangs is stronger than Crunch and 2HKOs after Stealth Rock so this seems like a weird thing to mention specifically; I'd just phrase it as something like "The rest of the EVs are invested in Defense to improve the Dracovish matchup." Pokemon that may struggle to deal with Rotom-H, such as Clefable, Mandibuzz, and Corviknight benefit greatly from Gastrodon's presence. Gastrodon's also rather susceptible to Pokemon such as Hydreigon, and is prone to getting crippled by Toxic from Pokemon like Keldeo and Rotom-H. The rest of the EVs are put into Defense to optimize the Dracovish matchup I mean, optimizing it would involve maxing out physical bulk. Perhaps say that this EV spread improves the matchup.. Pokemon that may struggle to deal with Rotom-H, such as Clefable, Mandibuzz, and Corviknight benefit greatly from Gastrodon's presence. Earthquake should be used alongside a Sassy nature instead of a Calm nature to avoid hampering its damage output. Amnesia allows Gastrodon to shut down offensive Mantine; this gives, (AC) giving (better flow in this case imo since both parts are so short already) it a great matchup against rain teams. The given Special Defense investment alongside a Calm nature allows Gastrodon to survive two Draco Meteor's (remove apostrophe) from Choice Specs Dragapult. The rest of the EVs are put into Defense to improve Gastrodon's matchup against Dracovish. Pokemon that may struggle to deal with Rotom-H, such as Clefable, Mandibuzz, and Corviknight, (AC) benefit greatly from Gastrodon's presence. Gastrodon's is (optional, looks a bit more formal) also rather susceptible to Pokemon such as Hydreigon, (RC) and is prone to getting crippled by Toxic from Pokemon like Keldeo and Rotom-H. As such, it is wise to pair Gastrodon with clerics like Clefable and Sylveon; they both can deal with Hydreigon, (RC) and prevent Gastrodon from being crippled too significantly by Toxic.
