Gen 5 RMT

It's been a while since I've made one of these, havn't been too active lately, most of my playing has been on the PO ladder. I made this team a while ago, and it has performed very consistently (although to be honest I'm not sure why). I guess it would classify under semistall, since that's how I usually end up playing with it. Most of the members are somewhat slow, but bulky. So, here is the team.

Quick Glance

Not really any special order, but this is how the team is arranged.

In Depth

Gyarados (M) @ Leftovers Trait: Intimidate
EVs: 252 HP / 100 Def / 156 SDef
Impish Nature (+Def, -SAtk)
- Waterfall
- Roar
- Rest
- Sleep Talk

Resttalk Gyarados. It functions as my counter to so many things, including Breloom, Blaziken, most water types (like Azumarill), most fire types (like Hihidaruma), check Rankurusu, and so on. Originally I had a Rankurusu in this spot, as I needed a Fighting resist who had some semblance of offensive power. However, Rankurusu despite being a beast wasn't working as a teammate as well, so I switched to something I've been using since the start of BW, Resttalk Gyara. Originally I had been really excited for Dragon Tail but I use Roar instead, as a better hard counter to Breloom (and subbers in general) and to avoid the inaccuracy problem. Gyarados is such a valuable member of the team, and has walled and stalled for many a battle.
The EVs aren't standard for Resttalk Gyarados, there is am emphasis on Defense, though I had special defense EVs since Gyarados was often my last check to opposing Rankurusu. If anyone wants to suggest a more efficient spread go ahead.

Randorosu (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Sand Power
EVs: 4 HP/ 252 Atk / 252 Spd
Jolly Nature (+Spd, -SAtk)
- Earthquake
- Stone Edge
- U-turn
- Brick Break

Originally I had toyed around with Borutorusu as my preferred Genie, with MH Nasty Plot + Thunder Wave, but as I want more pure power I went with Randorusu. Randorusu used to have a bulkier 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 Spd buky set to deal with Doryuuzu, then a mixed Rock Polish HP Ice set, but I decided that I needed more raw power behind his attacks, as a better way to deal with Calm Minders. He is unfortunately somewhat fragile, but that isn't really what I care about when I use Randorusu. He provides a nice Ground and Electric immunity, with a Fighting resist in a pinch. His 101 base speed is also nice, being able to check Salamence/Jirachi/Celebi/Insert other base 100 with the appropriate move.
Randorusu's initial purpose was to be a Dory check, and still accomplishes that. I always stick Brick Break on my Doryuuzus to deal with opposing Balloon Dorys, and I do the same with this Landlos. Why 2HKO with MissEdge and Earthquake when you can just OHKO with Brick Break?
The EVs are simple, max attack max speed, with Leftovers for bulk.

Bronzong @ Leftovers
Trait: Levitate
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 SpD
Brave Nature (+Atk, -Spd)
- Trick Room
- Earthquake
- Gyro Ball
- Zen Headbutt

The oddest member of my team. TRZong is so good. I saw it in a warstory and had to try it out. TRzong checks so many things its not even funny, especially Ononokusu and Doryuuzu, and checks threats like Gengar. Switch in on the setup, TR and go. Trick Room also actually had great synergy with the rest of the team, while not specifically a Trick Room team, used to have Rankurusu, Nattorei, Bronzong, and -Spe TTar. So Trick Room actually worked great, allowing Nattorei to get hazards before they went and for Rankurusu to get some nice Calm Minds.
The moveset is simple, maximum coverage and Trickroom, and the EVs are also simple. Maximum bulk, maximum attack.

Tyranitar (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Sand Stream
EVs: 252 HP / 188 SAtk / 68 Spd
Mild Nature (+SAtk, -Def)
- Stealth Rock
- Flamethrower
- Crunch
- Superpower

Tyranitar is a beast. One of my favorites since its creation, it has proven a valuable part of my team. While my team is not specifically a sand team, the sand proves useful, for example sand = no sun, good stuff. Tyranitar is another mon which I have used since the beginning of G5, for its consistent ability to set up Stealth Rock, and maintaining an offensive balance.
This tyranitar used to be Tyranitar@Lum Berry 252 HP/68 SpA/188 SpA Quiet (or whatever +SpA/-Spe was) with Stealth Rock, Flamethrower, Pursuit, and Superpower. And before that max attack max hp with SR Fire Punch Stone Edge Earthquake. However, I find this superior: without the same imminent threat of Rain I can now put investment into speed, to nail Scizors.
The moveset is simple, Stealth Rock since that has always been its purpose. Flamethower to hit Nattorei and Skarmory without Iron Barb Damage/hitting the higher defense. Crunch to handle Rankurusu better. And Superpower as a superior option against Blissey Tyranitar and P2. Leftovers over Lum because I decided extra staying power was more worth it.

Nattorei (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Iron Barbs
EVs: 252 HP / 120 Def / 136 SDef
Careful Nature (+SDef, -SAtk)
- Power Whip
- Spikes
- Thunder Wave
- Leech Seed

There is a reason Nattorei rocks, awesome resistance and excellent movepool. Nattorei is very valuable to the team, being able to set up Spikes to add residual damage (excellent synergy with Gyarados) and to fire off Thunder Waves, bringing other faster teams to around my level. Usually that is the first move I hit.
For the other two moves I picked Leech Seed, for more residual damage and recovery, and Power Whip, because Gyro Ball doesn't really work on paralyzed targets. It also handles the water types Nattorei often switches into better.

Latios (M) @ Life Orb
Trait: Levitate
EVs: 252 SAtk / 4 SDef / 252 Spd
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Recover
- Hidden Power [Fire]
- Psycho Shock
- Draco Meteor

Latios is the main powerhouse of this team, being able to come in on its many resistances or after a faint, and being able to fire off LO Draco Meteors and run. He is also the fastest member of my team, and my main check to Fighting types, who would otherwise do well against this team.
The moveset is simple, Draco Meteor for STAB, HP Fire to handle Steels (NATTOREI) and Psycho Shock for STAB that hits Fighting types for super effective.

So that's the team, rate/hate/steal. I am at about 1300 on the PO server, and going to start transitioning into the Smogon server. This team I find has excellent synergy, and if I play well very good staying power. Often I can stall out my opponent, for example once with my Gyarados Nattorei core I stalled out a 4-6 into a 3-0. And I had sacked my 3rd faint at 4-1 because I'd rather have the free switch.

Testing with this over Landlos:

Latios (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Levitate
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 Spd
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Recover
- Calm Mind
- Psycho Shock
- Dragon Pulse

Latias accomplishes many things Landlos did, provide resists such as those to ground, fighting, and electric (checkin fighting types better as well [BLAZIKEN]). However, it is bulkier, and double pressures along with Latios. In the battles I have fought today, Latias really hasn't done anything (the other pokemon did their jobs too well I guess). I really have not seen many Rankurusu at all, but the CM+Psycho Shock should help with it.
I'm debating if the Dragon+Psychic on both dragons is overused though, I currently lack proper ways to hit Heatran.

It also makes me wonder if I should keep TTar.

I wouldn't have Latios and Latias on the same team. This gives your team a massive Shandera weakness, with only Ttar and Gyarados being able to really take him on. Further, teams utilizing Shandera generally have ground and/or dark resists -- including Pokemon like Gliscor and Conkeldurr, with the latter posing another major threat to your team.

[I'll update and expand on my thoughts in a minute]

Hey boredomisbliss,
This seems to be a very nice team that you've got here. Before I start, do not have Latias and Latios on the same team. They double up on each others weaknesses and are almost the same in what they accomplish.
Anyways, down to business.

A really big threat to this team is Thundurus. It can sweep this team clean with Nasty Plot, Thunderbolt, HP Ice and Focus Blast / Taunt, a very common moveset in today's metagame. It can come in on Ferrothorn, Taunt as you try to paralyze it, set up and Thunderbolt your team into oblivion.
To stop Thundurus, you need to pack something that can outspeed it and not be crippled by Thunder Wave.
Scarf Garchomp is a very reliable revenge killer that could fit well in your team over Tyranitar.

A set like this would work well:

Garhomp @ Choice Scarf
Jolly Nature
Sand Veil 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
~ Outrage
~ Earthquake
~ Dragon Claw
~ Stone Edge / Fire Blast / Aqua Tail

You can easily outrun Thundurus and OHKO with Outrage or take out a weakened one with Dragon Claw. It also adds insurance against other faster sweepers such as Jolteon and Infernape.

You now lack Stealth Rock, but you can change Ferrothorn's moveset to

~ Stealth Rock
~ Spikes
~ Gyro Ball
~ Leech Seed

so that you keep rocks support.

All in all a very good team and good luck!
:)

Hey boredombliss, this looks like a solid team, just a few threats that need to be addressed.

Threats
  1. Nasty Plot Thunderus
  2. Butterfly Dance Urugamosu
  3. Calm Mind Rankurushu

As someone mentioned earlier, Nasty Plot Thunderus can be hard to stop, if it comes in on Gyarados and grabs a Nasty Plot boost. From here it has the power to OHKO the entire team with +2 Thunderbolt / Hidden Power Ice / Focus Blast, after some prior damage (20-30%). A Butterfly Dance Urugamosu can force out Bronzong / Nattorei to get in a Butterfly Dance, and threaten to decimate the team with +1 Fire Blast or Flame Dance / Bug Buzz / Hidden Power Rock. You do have Spikes + Stealth Rock in addition to Sand Storm to wear it down. Thing is, I don't see spinners like Hitmontop or Doryuuzu having problems coming in on certain members and spinning away those hazards (Tyranitar, and in Hitmontop's case, Nattorei) due to the lack of a spin blocker. Finally, Calm Mind Rankurushu proves to be quite a problem. With 252 HP / 252 Def, you'll find it pretty hard to do a sufficient amount of damage from the Physical or the Special spectrum, while in return, Rankurushu will hit quite hard with boosted Psychic / Focus Blast. Bronzong can come in to take it on only for so long, as repeated Focus Blast assaults will bring it down, without any means of recovery (outside of Leftovers). Tyranitar manages to do 64% at max with Crunch, while getting destroyed by Focus Blast. Gyarados can Roar at most, which isn't doing much, since pHazing won't wear down Rankurushu thanks to the immunity to hazards.

Solutions:

  • Solution A: Choice Scarf Randorosu over current set

Pretty simple change, same moveset with Choice Scarf over Leftovers. This is one of the more underrated Randorosu movesets in the metagame, and because of this, you have the surprise factor on your side. It still checks the base 100 Speed in addition to +1 Base 100 (and everything below) threats as well. The greatest values of this set is to act as a potent revenge killer towards Nasty Plot Borutorosu, Swords Dance and Mixed Blaziken (without Protect), and Butterfly Dance Urugamosu. Nasty Plot Borutorosu is maimed by Stone Edge, and so is Urugamosu. +1 Blaziken is destroyed by a Sand Power Earthquake.

  • Solution B: Calm Mind Latias over LO Latios

I know Latios is the enforcer of the team and all, but I think Calm Mind Latias can do a pretty good job over it. Firstly, it brings a great check to the dreaded Calm Mind Rankurushu, resisting Psychic and Focus Blast, and using them to get its Special Attack and Special Defense to sky high levels, and eventually bringing it down with boosted Dragon Pulse. Latias can also function as a win condition end game, getting in the Calm Mind it needs and using the Spikes to their fullest potential to achieve the KOs it requires. Reuniclus carrying Shadow Ball over Focus Blast are not really handled by Latias, and as a result, Tyranitar is a much better way to take them on. The only limitation I can see in Latias > Latios is the drop in power and lack of coverage between Dragon Pulse and Psycho Shock (or Psychic). I think Spikes do a great job in assisting Latias in weakening its foes, so that compensates for the drop in power from Latios to Latias (also after a few Calm Minds, the attacks become pretty strong already). As for the coverage issue, the rest of the team can hit all the Steel types that wall the Dragon + Psychic combo ( 3 out of 6 members carry a move to maim Steel- types).

Optional Changes:

If you want, you could try out Macho Brace on Bronzong and Trick over Trickroom. Since Speed is such an important quality to the new threats of the generation, taking that quality away from them is pretty important. Firstly, it's an unconventional move on Bronzong, so not many foes will expect it, instead they'd want to come in on Bronzong to use this as opportunity to set-up or begin launching attacks. Instead they find themselves incapacitated for the rest of the match (e.g. Balloon Doryuuzu, Rock Polish Randorosu) and get picked off by another member of the team. Alternatively, you could try out Choice Band over Macho Brace, enjoy the power behind Gyro Ball / Earthquake / Zen Headbutt, and when the time is right, trick away the band and make the opponent go "oh damn...".

Movesets:

Randorosu @ Choice Scarf
Trait: Sand Power
EVs: 4 HP/ 252 Atk / 252 Spd
Jolly Nature (+Spd, -SAtk)
- Earthquake
- Stone Edge
- U-turn
- Brick Break / Hammer Arm

Latias (F) @ Leftovers
Trait: Levitate
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 Spd
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Calm Mind
- Recover
- Dragon Pulse
- Psycho Shock / Psychic / Roar / Refresh

So to summarize:
  • Choice Scarf Randorosu over current set
  • Calm Mind Latias > Life Orb Latios
  • (Optional) Change Bronzong's moveset to Trick > Trickroom with a Macho Brace or Choice Band
