After I've travelled all the way through the GEN5 tiers (except for Ubers), I've become a decent player, so I've asked myself: "am I strong enough to try entire new pokemon, types and mechanics? am I strong enough for the Digimon-style-mega/evolutions?". And... I wasn't. Better say, It's like when I started out OU in gen5: sometimes I won, most of the time I lost, but most of all it seemed to me that I was not in control of the situation. So this is my current team, which I think it's actually pretty good, But STILL I totally need some suggestions or advices. I'LL BE VERY GREATFUL FOR YOUR COLLABORATION :D
Blissey @ Leftovers
Ability: Natural Cure
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpD
Careful Nature
- Heal Bell
- Seismic Toss
- Toxic
- Soft-Boiled
This is incredible standard-yet-good: to be honest, in gen5 OU I used to run Eviolite Chansey, which can actually be a better option (Leftovers isn't that necessary to heal up): and another thing is that I may go for a different set and make the following switches
Toxic/Seismic Toss ----> Protect
Soft-Boiled --------> Wish
So that I would become also able to heal up other teammates. Sure is that if I get rid of ST I will become totally vulnerable to Taunt, but I still think that ST (while it's pretty good) it's not that necessary (apart from Poison and Steel types, I could go for a Toxic and then stall out). So what should I do here? Is Chansey a better option? Should I stick with this moveset or do some changes?
Avalugg @ Rocky Helmet
Ability: Own Tempo
EVs: 116 HP / 140 Atk / 252 Def
Impish Nature
- Rapid Spin
- Avalanche
- Earthquake
- Recover
Avalugg, at the opposite, is capable of taking physical hits (even the supereffective ones) and strike back quite good (I've 3hkoed Mega T-Tar with EQ): Rocky Helmet over Lefties 'cause with all that Def Avalugg doesn't need to recover 6% per turn, besides he has access to Recover (I wonder why...) for quick... Recover :P He's also my spinner, even if he doesn't enter good on Rocks, but anyway. Should I change something in the Ev's here? I'm personally satisfied with his moveset, though.
Empoleon @ Leftovers
Ability: Torrent
EVs: 252 HP / 252 SpA / 4 SpD
Modest Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Hydro Pump
- Flash Cannon
- Roar
Now I know that usually Empoleon is used for a Defensive purpose, but I kinda mixed up: since it has a pretty solid Defensive Base Stats, I pumped up his Sp.Attack. So now it hits pretty hard with two Stabbed Move, but it's also my Hazard setter and a good counter for Shell-Smash Cloyster thank to Roar (or pokemon who wants to set up, as long as they're not supereffective against him: Crocune, for example). But again: do you think my "mix" can be useful or not? I've tried out 5 battle with this team, and for now it has worked, but I don't know if I'm using the right pokemon/ev's spread. So - should I stick with it? Should I change something? Or should I go for a totally different Hazard setter?
Landorus-T @ Life Orb
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Earthquake
- Stone Edge
- U-Turn
- Rock Polish
So-fu**ing-good. This is for sure the only pokemon which I want to keep precisely as it is now. He's able to enter extremely well on every hazard (spikes don't touch it, and Rocks only do a neutral damage), and once Rock Polish is up it's basically faster than almost everything (only speedy scarfer can outspeed Landorus). Then 145 base attack + Adamant + 252 Ev's + Life Orb... BOOM! And its movepool offers a better coverage than what I expected at a first glance. I've no doubt about Landorus-T, it's my favourite pokemon (and I think also the better built) in the whole team.
Gengar @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Shadow Ball
- Psychic
- Dazzling Gleam
- Trick
Gengar has two main jobs to do.
1) Hit fast and hard on the special side.
2) Screw up walls or Set-upper by Tricking them in one-move hell.
I truly like it, but I have some issues. First is its movepool: Psychich it's now (in Gen6, I mean) basically useful only for Poison-coverage, which isn't that required indeed - and for Fighting-types I have DG. Is there some useful move to have instead of it? Besides... Is there a better Scarfer/Tricker-Switcherooer than Gengar? I would really like to know, 'cause Gengar is surely frail, and relatively difficult to use sometimes...
Togekiss @ Leftovers
Ability: Serene Grace
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpA
Modest Nature
- Thunder Wave
- Nasty Plot
- Air Slash
- Dazzling Gleam
Since I didn't have too much coverage for Dragon/Dark, I added a Fairy. Apart from Steel-types, which I can't hurt - not even in my dreams, a t-wave/air slash/serene grace combo can be deadly, as many of you surely knows. My issues are two: again, is there a better Fairy option than Togekiss? I don't think so, since it's pretty bulky but also capable of striking back, but anyway I may be wrong. And, apart from this: should I stick with Nasty Plot, or switch to Aura Sphere, to get coverage even against Steel-types?
Mega-evolutions
I've tried out some of the mega-evolutions. In alphabetical order:
- Absol
- Aerodactyl
- Alakazam
- Ampharos
- Blastoise
- Gyarados
- Manectric
- Scizor
Aside from Aerodactly, and for some specifical situations Blastoise, no one of them have truly satisied me. This is so "new" that I know it's mostly a problem of mine, so what I'm asking here is:
Is there a Mega that could fit in my team? If yes, who is and how should I use it during the battle?
Keep in mind that the 6 pokemon on my team are covering the following roles:
- Sp. Wall (Blissey -----> + Healer, if I change movepool)
- Ph. Wall + Spinner (Avalugg)
- Hazard setter (Empleon)
- Ph. Attacker (Landorus-T)
- Sp. Attacker (Togekiss)
- Scarfer + Tricker (Gengar)
and I would really like to keep all those "roles" in my team :)
Please, I would really love some suggestions: I need to improve my knowledge of moves, strategies and mechanics for this new Gen so I can become "decent" even this time :P
