Gengar

[SET]
name: Offensive
move 1: Shadow Ball
move 2: Sludge Wave
move 3: Focus Blast / Substitute
move 4: Nasty Plot / Thunderbolt
item: Focus Sash / Life Orb
ability: Cursed Body
nature: Timid
evs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]
Nasty Plot is a movement that gave him this generation, which allows him to increase his special attack to the level that few things resist him, Shadow Ball is for everything that does not resist it and Sludge Wave serves him for fairy types, things that resist his other attack or increase your special attack thanks to a Dynamax attack based on the poison type, Focus Blast serves for things like Tyranitar for example, you can also enter Substitute to use it against things that can not do you much.
Focus Sash to be able to resist a blow, but if you want immediate damage, Life Orb is a better option, in this I recommend more Thunderbolt to be able to have better possibilities against Gyarados or Toxapex.

[SET]
name: Choice Scarf
move 1: Shadow Ball
move 2: Sludge Wave
move 3: Thunderbolt / Focus Blast
move 4: Focus Blast / Trick
item: Choice Scarf
ability: Cursed Body
nature: Timid
evs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]
Choice Scarf is to beat things like Gyarados at +1 or Dragapult, Shadow Ball and Sludge Wave are his main attacks, Thunderbolt mainly for Revenge Kill Gyarados and to a lesser extent by Toxapex, Focus Blast for Dark types or Steels, Trick can Enter to change your items with that of your opponent if necessary.

Best companions for Gengar in pokemon such as Corviknight and Hydreigon for example which by types complement each other and will help this to carry out the role we need.
His biggest Check and Counters are for example Tyranitar and Mimikyu, the first case thanks to his defenses and typing, the second thanks to his skill and typing, Gengar depending on the set can beat him but he has them more difficult than with the rest of pokemon.

Honestly, it looks pretty good as a start. Outside of STAB coverage on the Focus Sash set, I think Destiny Bond is worth mentioning. Focus Blast coverage on the Gengar isn't always as valuable as you might think, because dynamax Tyranitar doesn't care about non-nasty plot'ed FB, eats it, and gets WP boosts from it. Ferro can survive and 1 shot back in response.

Gengar hasn't taken off in this meta, in my opinion, for good reason. I would highlight those, and emphasize the niches he does have for more substance in your post. Another set I would like to see is sub-disable, which can shut down pokemon like Ferrothorn, forcing them to use their dynamax or lose heavy momentum. Thanks for contributing to this though, with a bit more it should be ready for QC!

Are you done writing this up? It looks pretty complete and implementing 1TP's suggestions should mean it passes QC checks with minimal comments. Gengar is turning out to be a pretty fringe mon so no rush, but we do want previews to go up before full analyses (spoilers lol) so just tell us when you are ready by changing the thread tag. Cheers!
