Get Back at the Weather - I (First RMT)

Hey guys. This is my first RMT. Well, actually, it's my first forum post. Would appreciate feedback, even it's something stupid that I did. Thanks!

The Infectious Leader
Tentacruel @ Leftovers

126ah37.png

Trait: Liquid Ooze
EVs: 252 HP / 4SAtk / 252 SDef
Calm Nature (+SDef, -Atk)
- Toxic Spikes
- Rapid Spin
- Scald
- Knock Off

This Tentacruel has room for improvement. Although it has some bulk and can reliably set up a layer or two of Toxic Spikes, it raises a lot of questions. By sacrificing two turns for Toxic Spikes, it might not survive another switch-in to Rapid Spin any entry hazards away. Knock Off, while it provides with help on Leftovers or ___ Orb (Toxic, Flame, Life) opponents, it takes up a move slot with a 20 base power Dark-type move. Scald is basically a foundation move on this set. It can burn any walls or physical threats, and has 80 base power w/ Water-type STAB. Liquid Ooze helps protect Tentacruel from Leech Seed-based Ferrothorns trying to set up against it. The Lefties are just an instinctive call on a relatively bulky Poke.

Power From All Sides
Electivire @ Air Balloon

30jilw9.png

Trait: Motor Drive
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spd
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Cross Chop
- Fire Punch
- Wild Charge
- Ice Punch

This Electivire is basically meant to provide cover and counters to multiple threats. Any Garchomp that comes through will probably Sub, SD, or attack. The Air Balloon forces Garchomp to use +0 D-Claw or get locked into Outrage. Then along comes our first counter move: Ice Punch. A ground lead that comes in, such as Hippowdon, will go for the Stealth Rocks first. Ice Punch gives the team a good chance to take down the bulky hippo relatively early and easily. This Electivire runs with Wild Charge for STAB reasons, and the fact that it's the strongest physical Electric move Electivire can learn. We also have Fire Punch, which I have most recently used against Scizor and Excadrill. This move provides a solid counterattack to the Attack-based Pokemon that are designed for sweeping (i.e. Scizor, Excadrill, etc.). Lastly, we have Cross Chop. Other than the fact that CC has a higher crit ratio than most moves, it has helped against other Pokes trying to set up. So far, I have used it with consistent success against Tyranitar, Ferrothorn, Excadrill, and Hydreigon, to name a few. The combo produced with having a Tentacruel and an Electivire on the same team (not to mention Gyarados) greatly increases the chances of taking full advantage of Electivire's ability: Motor Drive. With 252 Spd EVs already, one shot of Motor Drive's speed boost gives Electivire 400+ Spd, outspeeding max-speed Garchomp.

Rage. Quit.
Gyarados @ Leftovers

a2w0ex.jpg

Trait: Intimidate
EVs: 156 HP / 72 Atk / 96 Def / 184 Spd
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)

- Dragon Dance
- Waterfall
- Stone Edge
- Taunt/Ice Fang

Gyarados. Let's start at the top. Bring Gyarados in at any time with Intimidate, and you can easily manipulate the opponent's amount of times he switches, as long as you have entry hazards out. The Lefties on this Gyarados, plus a slightly defensive EV set, allow it to take a +0 Stone Edge from things (i.e. Terrakion) while getting off a DD. Taunt allows Gyarados to prevent Wish/Pass-ing and status-inducers. The two-move set has the most that could be improved. I chose Waterfall for obvious STAB and coverage reasons, and I eventually chose Stone Edge, as it provides better coverage and more power than Earthquake in this case. The reason I didn't choose Ice Fang was because of a 55-base power and the fact that I would normally use it against Dragon types, which I use my next pokemon, Latios, for.

The Elegance of the Sky
Latios @ Choice Specs

30kf66b.png

Trait: Levitate
EVs: 252 SAtk / 4 SDef / 252 Spd
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Trick
- Draco Meteor
- Psyshock
- Hidden Power [Fire]

With the recent moving of Soul Dew to "Uber" status, I had to change my Latios set around. Draco Meteor destroys, or heavily disrupts, attempts to wall my team. Choice Specs Draco Meteor does a TON of damage, as is common knowledge. Trick is commonly run amongst Latios-users, as it switches items, so if you know something else has [i.e.] Lefties, just Trick it over to you. Trick also helps if you know something's either a Physical attacker or a set-up poke. Giving them a Choice Specs doesn't hurt you in the slightest. Psyshock is the current answer I have for Blissey's who come in against Draco Meteor. I was unsure of what to put down on the fourth move slot, but I decided on Hidden Power Fire to combat against Scizor, Jirachi, Ferrothorn, and any other Steel type that tries to set up/status. I was thinking of changing this Latios's set from a Specs + Trick-er to a Calm Mind + Life Orb/Haban Berry. Thoughts?

Your Everyday Grass Spike
Ferrothorn @ Leftovers

se4rac.png

Trait: Iron Barbs
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SDef
Careful Nature (+SDef, -SAtk)
- Leech Seed
- Power Whip
- Stealth Rock
- Gyro Ball

What team would be complete without a commonly-used wall? This Ferrothorn has the Leech Seed/Leftovers combo, but not Protect for easy healing. I chose Gyro Ball over Protect for coverage reasons. Ferrothorn's bulk + healing capabilities still allow it to recover decent amounts of HP every turn, and I found that sticking with Power Whip alone set me up to fail against common setup Pokes. Haxorus, Excadrill, and Reuniclus come to mind: three threats that you cannot allow to set up. I put Stealth Rock on this Ferrothorn even though it doesn't lead, because it has enough to bulk to set them up on a free switch-in. I made it Sp. Def bulky, and found that it can survive a Fire Blast from most lead Tyranitars, and a Lava Plume from Heatran. If this should be changed to Def bulky, let me know. This is working great for me right now.

Speed or Strength? Doesn't Matter, I've Got 'Em Both.
Terrakion @ Air Balloon

2ryhy85.png

Trait: Justified
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SDef / 252 Spd
Jolly Nature (+Spd, -SAtk)
- Close Combat
- Stone Edge
- X-Scissor
- Swords Dance

This is my "backup generator" poke. It packs a lot of punch into a single Pokémon. Since it is faster than max-speed (not Scarf-) Garchomp, it has the opportunity to get off a SD in a sandstorm before attacking. With one SD, an X-Scissor can usually take down a Reuniclus, which is normally run with a variation of the Psychic/Focus Blast combo (Terrakion's weak to both). Close Combat over Sacred Sword for power reasons. Though Sacred Sword doesn't miss and ignores stat changes in the opponent, saving Terrakion's defenses, Terrakion is fast enough where the defensive drops don't hurt him too much in the long run. Azumarill w/ Aqua Jet and Scizor w/ Bullet Punch can both one-shot this Terrakion, even without the defensive drops, so CC can be used in abundance without being too worried. Not giving Terrakion a Choice Band or Life Orb was a sacrifice I was willing to take if it could resist Ground-type attacks. It helps reinforce certain switch-in situations.

Ex-Team Members

- Gengar @ Life Orb
-Sludge Bomb
-Shadow Ball
-Thunderbolt
-Hidden Power (Fire)

- Reuniclus @ Leftovers
-Calm Mind
-Psychic
-Focus Blast
-Thunder Wave/Recover

Things I'm Obviously Lacking

- a SAtk Fire move --- solved with HP Fire on Latios
- priority move in case of emergency
- cleric poke / Wish-passer
- team synergy

CHANGES WILL BE IN BOLD
(unless already bold --> red)

It seems like you're trying to make Gyara more of a bulky sweeper, so I suggest this set:

Bulky Dragon Dance
- Dragon Dance
- Waterfall
- Taunt
- Stone Edge / Bounce / Earthquake
Nature: Adamant
item: Leftovers
ability: Intimidate
EVs: 156 HP / 72 Atk / 96 Def / 184 Spe

Also, I would run HP Fire on Latios, otherwise most steel types wall you, and it also fixes your lack of a SAtk move.

K, thanks. I'll run a small test right now and see how the new sets work out.

Edit: Went 13-3 in test with new HP fire and survived multiple Stone Edge's with bulky Gyarados. Will update RMT.
Thanks for the help, Cheezy.

try sub + dd gyara. Very underrated, but also very good.

u could also go with double dragon with a ddmence, which i have always found better than gyarados. if played rite, it gets about 2 kills a game if the oppo runs a counter. i can sweep whole teams if the oppo doesn't pack any of the following: slowbro, gliscor, hippowdon, porygon2, cresselia, scarfchomp, and scarf landorus. Also weather sweepers are a prob, but sun actually benefits mence. Exca is easy 2 handle with the rest of ur team.

You have some team synergy, like Electivire + Gyarados, Ferrothorn + Tentacruel, Terrakion + Latios. You should try a Conkeldurr instead of Terrakion, but if it doesn't go well switch it back! Gives you a priority also. Here's the set:

Conkeldurr (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Guts
EVs: 120 HP / 252 Atk / 136 SDef
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Mach Punch
- Bulk Up
- Drain Punch
- Stone Edge/Payback (I prefer Payback)
