Getting Back Into D/P.

I recently got back into Shoddy because Im getting some free time on my hands and would appreciate if people could give me an analysis of the metagame before I indulge myself back into it. At first I thought about lurking, and for about 2 days I have, but it doesnt seem to be working too well. Usually I could pick up on whats going on by just watching people play but atm Im totally lost. Any help will be appreciative, thanks.

While many people will tell you D/P is all offensive, a huge amount of people are running very defensive teams right now, with 3-4 walls and at least one more bulkier pokemon. D/P is mainly about team synergy and strategy IMO, since there is now so much to cover. Make sure your team can handle the oh-so common Garchomp, Tyranitar, Salamence, Blissey, ect, and work on getting a team strategy. I quoted Aeroblacktyl in my sig because I think he describes D/P extremely well.

Right now, it seems like:

Specsmence isn't on every other team like it used to be.
Most teams have a Forretress with Toxic Spikes.

And that's really all I can think of as far as specifics. But, for general info, I can tell you that there are a lot of SS stall teams out there ATM. The offensive metagame that everyone thought it was has now become a stallfest. Most teams I've seen lately have a Hippo and Forry. And that's about all I can remember for the moment. This is just my take on things though, so it might be biased.

Most Salamence seem to be running mixed or physical sets now, which makes it a lot more troublesome when there actually is a Specsmence lying in wait...

Most serious Wi-Fi teams still use Blissey, Garchomp, Tyranitar, and Salamence PLUS two other Pokemon. It's old, but its still that way. But most of my Wi-Fi battles lately have been vs. 12 year olds who find it fun to use things like Wondertomb and the likes.

Don't know about Shoddy Battle, I hate battle simulators. Sucks the life out of the game IMO

I agree that most successful teams have a dependable synthesis among the team. Sandstream dominates most of the meta, spikes/stealth rock/toxic spikes are common as well. Have a swords dance/nasty plot user for the end game can be devastating for your opponent.

Honestly, I think the game has turned into a 98% Pokesaving community, where everyone has 31 IVs in every stat, people are sneaking EVs here and there, and it is such a big mess. There are so many battlers that wouldn't dare to look in a trading section, instead they will be jotting down pokesav codes straight off the D/P Analysis. I do not know, the metagame is fucked up at the moment. I think pokemon needs to just be done, and if another generation comes out, we will get the "Bronze and Copper Rush" or something along those lines, not to mention all of the D/P players moving over + More pokemon.

If you ask me, it isn't worth comming back. Competitive battling used to be fun battling. Now it is serious battling, with cheating and ARs in every household that owns Diamond or Pearl.

Very true, most battlers from Gamefaqs/SPP-Wifi are hackers

I'm not Wifi battling atm but I hope that most of this will disappear when Competitor is released. Probably a pipe dream though. =[

Competitor is the "true" successor to the Netbattle online simulator. It should be considerably better than what Shoddy is right now, so hopefully it'll encourage those who favor "pure battling" (and don't care for IV breeding, EV training, etc.) to move from hacking in Wifi to Competitor.

But if the majority of said hackers are doing it merely for the extra advantage, it won't mean much.

It depends how you are defing decent.

Technically it is very well implemented, however its introduction has had a noticable effect on Shoddy play.

Hardly anyone plays anything other than ladder matches (if you don't want to play a rated match the only real option is unrated OU, play in other tiers has dropped to the point that its non-existant for hours upon end).

Ladder teams are all pretty similar, as the desire to get on the top of the score borad means that most are drawing from that small movepool of really OU pokemon, and to succesfully compete you are forced to do the same. It all gets very repetitive very quickly.

How is that any different than battling a team of well-bred, well ev'd Pokemon?
If you don't find battling competitively fun, then why are you posting here?

I'd understand if you were pissed because some ass brought his No Guard Deoxys-S with Sheer Cold out on you, but if you're battling with your best breeding products, you should be at least within the 1% range of having no disadvantage to your opponent scrub with 31/31/31/31/31/31 dudes if not a 0% range.

I don't want to make assumptions about you, but most people find challenges to be fun and while people ARing things don't work as hard as you do (whatever that means), they are presenting you with the best game-possible challenge which, if challenge=fun, should be the most fun for you.

If they're 255-alling, that's another thing. When it comes to WiFi battle, you choose who your opponent is. If people from a specific forum battle in a way you don't like or consistently have obvious hacks on against you PROTIP: don't battle there.

Seriously, there's no point in discouraging a guy who is looking for fun from trying to find it, as a lot of us don't seem to have the same problems you do. Unless you're a part of some secret overwhelming silent majority.

I don't care about hacking 31 IVs in each stat, its lame, but you know, its legal, so I am up for the challenge.

It just gets annoying when I want to get a battle or two in before I leave for work and each battle I end up going into the person leads with a Wondertomb, which I see every other battle, or like you said, No Guard Electrode with Sheer Cold.

Even though most of the illegal moveset/ability teams are beatable, its still annoying since you can't become a better player since you are not playing into what the proper metagame is.

Exactly what I also think... It just annoys although these hacked teams are beatable most of the time

But still, you put a lazy pokemon player that has skills, he has 31 IVs in speed, that could change the game no question. Getting the first hit off? I meen, sure, they could have the exact same base stats, but it is funny when you put the breeding time in to get high 20's-31 IVs, and you are getting outsped by hackers that decide they want to make a pokemon one day.

QFT, Theres no NU or UU on shoddy anymore. I hate the OU metagame, and I don't really get to play UU with anyone else.

Well, yeah, if you play UU, please jot down my FC, because i'm sick of Shoddy.

Or.......there's only been 1 battle simulator out for roughly 2 months now. We can all be a little patient and wait til Competitor is finished, which will established all and every metagames, and even open up room to discover new shit. I wouldn't try to write off OU yet, because this could be the 'last' generation you'll have to play with Pokemon for quite a while....

Aeroblacktyl is right, IMO. Newer and newer sets are being made. Stallrein, ScarfChomp... NOW is not the time to give up. It's just starting, and soon, new sets will be born.
Also...
I have been easily winning, and my team doesn't consist of a single T-Tar/Garchomp/Salamence. This is on the ladder, fighting serious players. And heck, I don't even see too much OU. Sure, Blissey. But even I use Blissey now. However, other stuff is soon going to prevail in OU. Why do I see a Tentacruel/Milotic every match? Or Slowbro? The metagame is chaging again, on Shoddy. I never do like these periods, because my team doesn't know what it'll face. Still, it's Shoddy, and I can change with the click of a mouse.

well thanks for the info.. and lol at Walrien. Cool pokemon though so its nice that some people use it.

as of right now Im working on a fast paced team with a few tricks. Nothing too special yet.
