Gliscor Baton Pass? In your UU?

Gligar Baton Pass? In YOUR UU?

It's more likely than you think.
Spr_4h_207_m.png

Introduction: Welcome, ladies and gentlemen, children of all ages, to my newest RMT. This RMT was built using my OU team, Cresselia + Gliscor + Metagross = Death, as a guideline. If you haven't read my OU RMT, that's fine, and it obviously isn't necessary to understand this one.

This team was also influenced by my idea of a Togetic Baton Passer in UU, which has worked with moderate success. I wanted to try for Attack passing now, and who better to use than one of the best Baton Passers in UU, Gligar? I'm open to any and all suggestions for this team, especially concerning the EVs or Movesets.

141Kabutops.png

Kabutops @ Lum Berry
Ability: Swift Swim
Nature: Adamant
EVs: 74 HP | 252 Atk | 184 Spe

  • Stealth Rock
  • Waterfall
  • Rapid Spin
  • Stone Edge
Why This Pokemon: Well, to be honest, Kabutops wasn't exactly my first choice of a Lead. I wanted to run something a bit more Bulky instead, but I couldn't really think of any Leads bulky enough to set up Stealth Rocks that worked well with this team. Nidoqueen was a possible choice for this slot, but after testing both, I decided on Kabutops.

Why This Set: Well, Stealth Rock is a given, seeing as that's what I was looking for in the first place. Rapid Spin helps to keep Rocks and other annoying Entry Hazards off the field, which is always great news for the entire team. Stone Edge and Waterfall work well together, taking down a wide assortment of Leads in UU. My biggest problem is, due to the lack of a Focus Sash, HP Grass Moltres and Arcanine can really run train on Kabutops, and I can't do much to stop either of them. Froslass is another pain of mine, out-speeding me and firing off Shadow Balls. Of course, I can still set up Stealth Rock on it, accomplishing the main objective, but it can set up Spikes on me, and I can't Rapid Spin them away.

Gardevoir @ Light Clay
Ability: Levitate
Nature: Impish
EVs: 252 HP | 252 Def | 4 Spe

  • Reflect
  • Light Screen
  • U-turn
  • Thunder Wave

Why This Pokemon: Looks like Uxie's fallen down a slot on the team. Giving up the Lead position to Kabutops, Uxie instead takes over the, rather frail, Gardevoir as the Dual Screen set-up Pokemon! Uxie is extremely Bulky, especially in UU, where not much can threaten it behind Screens. Thanks to Levitate, Uxie dodges any and all Ground-type attacks my opponent may have been using against Kabutops, and its Psychic-type allows it to soak up any Fighting-type attacks that were sent Kabutops' way.

Why This Set: Well, Baton Pass has always benefited from the defensive boost that Dual Screens bring to the table. As such, Uxie was chosen to use Dual Screens. U-turn is to provide a safe pass to Gligar, since not much in UU is slower than Uxie. Thunder Wave is great for crippling common Uxie counters, though I may change it to Yawn to force switches.

Gligar @ Yache Berry
Ability: Hyper Cutter
Nature: Timid
EVs: 252 HP | 4 Def | 252 Spe

  • Swords Dance
  • Agility
  • Baton Pass
  • Taunt
Why This Pokemon: Well, this entire team was kind of built to help Gligar succeed in passing Attack and Speed boosts, and making sure the recipients rip through the opponent's team, so it would be rather strange if Gligar was absent from the roster.

Why This Set: Well, Baton Pass and Agility were a given. Swords Dance powers up every move on my recipient's sets to obscene levels, OHKO-ing damn near anything. And with the +2 they'd get from the Agility pass, you're gonna have to back your Choice Scarf and Max Spe EVs to catch these guys. Taunt helps to shut down Stall, which isn't too common in UU, but is a threat nonetheless, and is dealt with as such. Taunt also helps against Pokemon that think Gligar is just set-up bait.

400Bibarel.png

Bibarel @ Lum Berry
Ability: Simple
Nature: Adamant
EVs: 252 HP | 252 Atk | 4 Def

  • Return
  • Waterfall
  • Taunt
  • Quick Attack
Why This Pokemon: Okay, I'll be the first to say that, when thinking about a competitive UU team, I did not think of Bibarel. I'd like to thank YaM for bringing Bibarel to my attention, since it outclasses what I had in this slot previously, Azumarill. Bibarel works just as well as Azumarill as a recipient of Baton Pass, maybe even more so. With Simple, Bibarel is practically an unstoppable beast of destruction, crushing everything (bar Shedinja) in UU.

Why This Set: Well, to start off, Lum Berry protects me from unkind status such as Burn, Sleep, Paralyze, and my personal most-hated, Badly Poisoned. Nothing ends a Baton Pass chain better than a well-placed Toxic. With Lum Berry, I don't have to worry about such trivial things, and I can just go for the Pass. No Speed EVs are necessary, since Agility with Simple easily has Bibarel outranking anything without a Choice Scarf. Quick Attack beats out Priority, for those Pokemon that run Choice Scarf, and it gets STAB, which is always great. Waterfall and Return get Dual STAB, and is completely unresisted by the entire UU tier, bar Shedinja (which rarely appears anyway). Taunt deals with Pokemon that aren't OHKO'd by Waterfall/Return/Quick Attack that can Roar me away, undoing all my hard work.

20091223152652%21257Blaziken.png

Blaziken @ Life Orb
Ability: Blaze
Nature: Adamant
EVs: 252 Atk | 4 SpD | 252 Spe

  • Blaze Kick
  • Stone Edge
  • ThunderPunch
  • Low Kick
Why This Pokemon: With all the Ice Beams flying at Gligar, someone's gotta take 'em, right? And what if they're predicting Bibarel? Let's go to non other than Blaziken, the best Wall Breaker UU has ever known.

Why This Set: Max Speed and Attack are a no-brainer, so I won't bother explaining that. Blaze Kick was chosen since I don't think that (possible, but probably unlikely) Stealth Rock damage, Life Orb recoil, Flare Blitz recoil, and possible Hail/Sandstorm damage would be too good for this flamin' chicken. Blaze Kick, while supporting significantly lower strength, is a decent substitute though, especially considering the only other choice is Fire Punch. ThunderPunch nets the KOs on Bulky Water-types, and Low Kick takes care of the Rock-types that think they can get in this bad boy's way. Stone Edge is the final piece of the puzzle, taking down annoying Flying-types like Alteria, which can ruin my plans if left unchecked.

Toxicroak @ Life Orb
Ability: Dry Skin
Nature: Adamant
EVs: 4 HP | 252 Atk | 252 Spe

  • Cross Chop
  • Stone Edge
  • Ice Punch
  • Sucker Punch
Why This Pokemon: Honestly, I don't know why I didn't think of it sooner. Obviously, Ice Beam isn't the only attack that my opponent would be firing at Gligar. Water-type attacks, while not as effective, would definitely do some damage to the purple bat. What easily blocks all Water damage? Dry Skin of course!

Why This Set: This set has worked wonders for me. Sucker Punch with +2 Attack is like a dream, and combining it with Cross Chop just makes it all the sweeter. Ice Punch is mainly for coverage's sake, and Stone Edge is mainly filler. Maxed Attack and Speed are a must, with Life Orb ensuring some OHKOs that I may have missed otherwise.

End Notes

Not much to really say. Any advice is helpful advice. Thanks, and have one last look at the team before you go.

Having played similar teams a lot, I can see major problems with this one.

The most major problem is this: the way your team is built, Gligar will only Baton Pass once. Gardevoir takes a massive beating while setting up screens, especially since you don't mind switching her into Dark type attacks. It's even worse if you use Memento. Gligar, with no Leftovers and no Wish support, will not get the chance to Baton Pass again.

Then what? You get to Baton Pass once to the sweeper of your choice. Can it sweep through your opponent's entire team? Can you deal with their physical walls and their priority attacks? Can you deal with Intimidate spam? I think your team has serious problems in that. If you pass to Aggron for example and take Mach Punch - how much HP will you have left? If your opponent switches around smartly, taking Head Smash with Rhyperior and Aqua Tail with Poliwrath - how fast will Aggron die to Life Orb recoil? With no recovery move, no Leftovers, Life Orb recoil and Substitute to boot, I can't see Aggron sweeping teams.

Then what? If Aggron dies, with Gardevoir out of commission and Gligar badly hurt, you've got nothing left to threaten your opponent with. Gligar can't pass again and you're basically left to use Azumarill and Hitmonlee against whatever your opponent has left with barely any support and without much speed. I honestly don't think it's going to work.

Things to consider:

Running a different lead so Uxie, with his massive bulk, can take on the role of the dual screener.
Running at most two receivers, using the last slot to patch up weaknesses.
Running Leftovers on Gligar (could be dangerous if your opponent has Ice-type attacks, although you can Baton Pass out before it hits).
Running Wish or Healing Wish instead of Memento for Gardevoir (if you Memento and go to Gligar, good opponents WILL switch out, giving you one turn to Rock Polish, which isn't that much).
Running a RP set for Aggron so he can take advantage of the screens when you can't use Gligar.

Good luck with team =)

Torterra and especially Quagsire stand in the way of a clean sweep for Aggron, and Venasaur causes Azumarill trouble. To get past these walls, drop ThunderPunch for Ice Punch on Aggron. I don't see what coverage Thunderpunch offers, as Aggron's Head smash is more powerful than a 2x effective Thunderpunch.

Although Aqua Jet is a useful priority move on Azumarill, at +2 speed I feel Ice Punch will be more valuable in taking out Venusaur and Tangrowth.

Nipicks:
Run a Timid Nature on Gligar. It is purely so that Gligar takes less damage from confusion.
I would also run Wish on Gardevoir over Will-o-Wisp.

Apart from that, you should be ok

Simple Bibarel simply outclasses Azumarill, achieving 885 (versus 872) Attack from the Swords Dance, getting a priority move too in Quick Attack, gets Taunt, and the clincher is Dual-STAB for Return AND Waterfall, with Return as its main attack.

Uxie doesn't provide much for the team, I think you need another Dual Screener who can provide Wish Support or Gligar will die soon, Clefable is a good option to Heal your Baton Passers.

You could also run a second Baton Passer over Hitmonlee: Blaziken with BP/Agility/SD/Roar to hopefully pass a second time.

I made significant changes to the team. It went under a complete revamp, changing everything but Gligar. Any suggestions? I still feel like it's missing something that could make it better...

I might remove Blaziken or Toxicroak for something that can provide Wish support.
