I've decided to start playing Showdown again from a yearlong hiatus. Being unfamiliar with the new pokes (wait mega metagross exists?), I did some exploring with a first team. This team was the result of my new-found, but incomplete, knowledge of the meta. Thanks for reading.
Also, to any raters: If you'd like to change the "format" of my team, I'd prefer to make it more offensive (like hyper-offense) than replacing my offensive mons with defensive mons. However, please feel free to leave any suggestions, it'd be much appreciated. Thanks!

Detailed
Gliscor @ Toxic Orb
Ability: Poison Heal
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 252 HP / 52 Def / 204 Spe
Impish Nature
- Substitute
- Toxic
- Earthquake
- Roost
Gliscor was the starting mon for the team. Poison Heal + Toxic Orb for awesome recovery. It's a good check to defensive Heatran, since EQ will OHKO instantly. Physically Defensive EV spread, plus 204 speed (you know, you can never get enough speed creep) Toxic helps defend against defensive Landorus-T, Mega Altaria, (Mega) Slowbro, Rotom-W, and other bulky water types the rest of my team hates dealing with. It goes well with Charizard, helping it get rid of Ferrothorn and Scizor, in exchange for a way of dealing with Heatran.
Charizard @ Charizardite X
Ability: Blaze
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Dragon Dance
- Dragon Claw
- Flare Blitz
- Earthquake (Roost?)
Here, I went with a DD set. After weakening/getting rid of Azumarill, Talonflame, and Heatran, one DD should be enough to clean up. I'm using an offensive EV spread in lieu of the bulky spread to do better damage on the likes of Gyarados. I went with dual stabs Dragon Claw (No recoil) and Flare Blitz (Fire Punch seems too weak) The problem with the set is Heatran. I've been switching between the two, and while Earthquake rids of Heatran, I don't have Roost when I'd need it. My original though process for Roost was because I had Gliscor to deal with Heatran anyway; however, I can't seem to land a hit b/c people are smart and switch out of Heatran in order to wall Charizard later on.
Azumarill @ Assault Vest
Ability: Huge Power
EVs: 240 HP / 252 Atk / 16 SpD
Adamant Nature
- Aqua Jet
- Waterfall
- Play Rough
- Knock Off
Azumarill has great synergy with the previous two Pokes, and provides another way to deal with Heatran (as well as many dragons) I chose assault vest in order for it to switch in on resisted or otherwise weak moves, like Keldeo's STABs and Charizard X's unboosted STABs. Aqua Jet, Waterfall, and Play Rough are self explanatory. Knock Off helps against Slowbro and Eviolite. Unfortunately, Aqua Jet doesn't go before Talonflame's Brave Bird, which can KO if Azumarill < 65%, even w/ Assault Vest.
Latias (F) @ Life Orb
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 68 HP / 188 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Draco Meteor
- Psyshock
- Defog
- Healing Wish
My team, having Charizard, needs a defogger, so why not one of the most viable? This is a utility set, with max speed in order to revenge kill dragons if need be. Since Charizard and Azumarill lack recovery (assuming EQ w/ Charizard), Healing Wish is helpful to use, since these two pokes often become my win condition. The same thing goes with Focus Sash Terrakion. Assuming I can pull off the Defog+Healing Wish w/o getting killed, Terrakion can be used as a late game sweeper, keeping it's focus sash intact.
Terrakion @ Focus Sash
Ability: Justified
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Taunt
- Close Combat
- Stone Edge
Terrakion is generally what I'll lead with. Taunt usually disables the bulky will-o-wisp's and stealth rock from TTar, Hippowdon, Garchomp, Lando-T, or Skarmory. With my sash intact, I can 1v1 Talonflame, provided Stone Edge hits. Healing wish and Defog support from Latias helps me bring this guy in, sometimes with 1 HP left, and pull off a late-game "sweep" (provided Stone Edge hits)
Ferrothorn @ Rocky Helmet
Ability: Iron Barbs
EVs: 252 HP / 88 Def / 168 SpD
Sassy Nature
IVs: 0 Spe
- Leech Seed
- Gyro Ball
- Spikes
- Thunder Wave
Ferrothorn completes the FWG core (not that it matters that much), and provides a not-so-reliable check to Talonflame. I bring it in on a predicted Brave Bird, and allow it to Flare Blitz me. All the recoil and Iron Barbs plus Rocky Helmet damage will bring it down. Thunder Wave is crucial in order to allow Charizard or Azumarill to clean up against faster pokes. Gyro ball 2HKO's Togekiss (w/ SR) and Sylveon, which are my only strong move against them. Leech seed is helpful against walls that otherwise annoy my team.
Threats
Talonflame - can 2HKO everything on my team barring gliscor, who can't do crap to talonflame anyway.
Rotom-W (and other bulky water types), my best way to deal with him is to 1] set up with Charizard or 2] 2HKO w/ psyshock. Most other bulky water types are annoying as well, who can scald against Azumarill who can otherwise wallbreak against them.
Serperior - Close Combat from Terrakion doesn't OHKO, so he can use 2 leaf storms. Since i have nothing to outspeed it, and aqua jet doesn't always kill, it can be a serious threat, especially if he's not Life Orb and has HP ice.
Heatran - Even though I have a few ways of dealing with him, I can never seem to land a hit on him without letting my Azumarill or Gliscor go down.
Thanks in advance for rating!
