Gliscor Pass (ranked #22)

_Mew2King_

Banned deucer.
Hi everybody, my name is Denis, I'm a brazilian guy, and I'm not the real Mew2King (lol). I am a member of Smogon University since February of this year. I am 17 and this year I will have to do some tests to get into college, so I can not play long in order to study, which is very sad. However I had great fun playing this game, and now I'll show the team I used to get to the twenty-second place on Leaderboard. The focus is on running a successful Baton Pass Gliscor, which has the help of an entire team, including an Anti-Lead, a Pokemon that use Stealth Rock and a Dual Screener (some people even call my team "Team of Leads"). This kind of strategy is very risky, but perfect for people with no patience like me. I've tried everything: Rain Dance, Obi Stall, Bulky Offense, Trick Room, Hail Stall, Sandstorms Stall, Sandstorms Offense, etc... But without any success. Fortunately I was inspired on my team that I used in the Uber Battles, which was based in a Mew's Pure Baton Pass set. Once I thought if I used this kind of strategy at OU with Gliscor I also would succeed, something that really happened. Gliscor can not get anywhere near the level of Mew, but it has enough forces to succeed in the OU tier.

Smeargle - Picasso

96HP/120Def/40SpD/252Spe
Nature: Jolly
Item: Choice Scarf
Ability: Own Tempo

- Spore
- Trick
- Encore
- Lunar Dance

Scarf Smeargle is a great Lead because he surprise all players who think I'm using a Spiker Lead. All other Leads that normally are faster are put to sleep with Spore, while the slower Leads may detest receive a Choice Scarf or even be put to sleep. Encore is used when I can predict that your opponent will use Substitute (eg Breloom), Calm Mind (Jirachi, Suicune), etc. Lunar Dance can fully recover some Pokémon I need to perform my strategy.
Scarf Smeargle does not allow the opponent leave any Entry Hazard in my field, which is good for my team.
The Guiding Principles behind EVing Smeargle is to first max out the Speed stat and then to distribute the rest of the EVs into HP or Defense. As Smeargle has more SpD than Def, the EVs were distributed so that the Def and SpD stay in balance. Smeargle can even survive a few hits, such as the Earthquake from MixPert Lead, Fake Out from Infernape, Bullet Punch from Metagross and Surf from Suicune or Vaporeon who have not invested in Special Attack.

Vs. Top Leads:

dpicon142.png
Aerodactyl - Put to sleep with Spore, and then switch to Aerodactyl

Ani482MS.png
Azelf - Put to sleep with Spore, and then switch to Aerodactyl

Ani130MS.png
Gyarados - The vast majority of people believe that Smeargle is a set-up bait for Gyarados, as the combination of Dragon Dance, Taunt and Lum Berry can be a big problem for the Spiker Lead. In any case, I use Trick

Ani485MS.png
Heatran - Put to sleep with Spore, and then switch to Aerodactyl

Ani392MS.png
Infernape - Put to sleep with Spore, and then switch to Aerodactyl

Ani385MS.png
Jirachi - If Iron Head does not cause flinch hax, I can put it to sleep with Spore

Ani068MS.png
Machamp - Most people give a Lum Berry to their Machamps, so Spore is useless. The only thing I have left to do is use Trick, causing him to get stuck in DynamicPunch. Once the Smeargle is sacrificed, I send Aerodactyl, who can finish with DynamicPunch PP using Substitute and Pressure (Aerodactyl can produce 4 subs).

Ani473MS.png
Mamoswine - Put to sleep with Spore, and then switch to Aerodactyl

dpicon407.png
Roserade - Put to sleep with Spore, and then switch to Aerodactyl. Should he stay, Aerodactly can finish with Leaf Storm PP using Substitute (HP Ice is rare). Toxic Spikes do not affect any of my team Pokemon (Suicune can use the Rest to get rid of Poison).

Ani260MS.png
Swampert - I use Trick, because this Lead is very bulky and can cause many problems later (even if he is sleeping) and Earthquake from the standard MixPert Lead Swampert never OHKO Smeargle (barring a crit). Even without a Choice Scarf, Smeargle is faster than Scarf Swampert and able to use Spore.

Ani472MS.png
Gliscor - Put to sleep with Spore, and then switch to Aerodactly

Ani376MS.png
Metagross - I use Trick because of the Lum Berry variants.

Aerodactyl - Aero Demon

252HP/252Spe/4Def
Nature: Timid
Item: Focus Sash
Ability: Pressure

- Stealth Rock
- Taunt
- Substitute
- Toxic

Aerodactyl is always sent to the battlefield after Smeargle has completed his mission to put opponents to sleep. Stealth Rock is crucial to any team, causing damage to the opponent's Pokemon during an entire match. With his insane speed, my opponent will have no chance to use set-up moves, because I Taunt almost any Pokemon. There are many who Pokemon that hate Toxic, like Vaporeon, Salamence, Gliscor, Swampert, etc... With Substitute, I can complete finish Leaf Storm, DynamicPunch and Stone Edge PP from certain Pokemon.
Aerodactyl should only focus on Speed, thats why i maximized that Speed Stat. As I'm not using any offensive move, I distributed the rest of the EVs in HP.
Focus Sash guarantees that I will survive a Scizor's Bullet Punch.

Azelf - I will Scare u

252HP/252Spe/4Def
Nature:Jolly
Item: Light Clay
Ability: Levitate

- Light screen
- Reflect
- Taunt
- Explosion

Azelf was chosen as my dual screen because of its high speed, Taunt and Explosion. Explosion in particular is a great move because it allows Gliscor comes untouched to the battlefield AND with Light Screen and Reflect support to increase his defenses.
Azelf and Areodactly will try to Taunt almost everything, annoying some trainers who love to use set up moves like Dragon Dance and Swords Dance, or even Roar, Rain Dance, Trick Room, Reflect, etc...
The speed was maximized for Azelf so he can use Taunt before my opponents can use any set-up moves. The remaining EVs were distributed into HP.

Gliscor - Batman

252HP/190SpD/68Spe
0Atk IV
Nature: Timid
Item: Yache Berry/Passho Berry?
Ability: Hyper Cutter

- Rock Polish
- Swords Dance
- Taunt
- Baton Pass

With the Dual Screen support, Gliscor becomes a VERY tough pokemon, ready to perform a successful and unstoppable Baton Pass.
The EVs allow Gliscor to outspeed Adamant Gyarados all the time, and Choice Scarf Gengar after a Rock Polish. The rest is placed into HP and Special Defense so Gliscor can survive things like Surf from Suicune or Vaporeon who have not invested in Special Attack. It's generally a good idea to Rock Polish first, as then I can outspeed whatever the opponent switches in, meaning there is less chance of being phazed, KOed or set up on.
A Timid nature and 0 Atk IV will reduce the damage I take from confusion if they send Machamp, who is going to use DynamicPunch.
I usually try to pass a single Rock Polish and Swords Dance boost to Metagross, who is the recipient of Baton Pass.
If the opponent gives me the opportunity, I use Rock Polish twice, then Metagross will be faster than almost all Pokemon that are normally seen, including Choice Scarf Flygon and Choice Scarf Rotom-h, which can cause serious damage if I only have one Rock Polish boost. Sometimes they even give me the opportunity to Swords Dance 2 or 3 times!!
Yache Berry helps me against Ice Shard, Ice Punch and Ice Beam, while Passho Berry is great when I´m facing a Starmie. I use Yache Berry more often.

Metagross - meta KILLER

Nature: Adamant
Item: Lum Berry/Occa Berry/Shuca Berry?
112HP/252Atk/132Spe/12Def
Ability: Clear Body

- Meteor Mash
- Earthquake
- Thunder Punch
- Zen Headbutt

Metagross was chosen as the recipient of the baton pass due to its resistance to common priority moves, like Bullet Punch, ExtremeSpeed and Ice Shard and his high attack stat. With a single Swords Dance boost it is capable of destroying most of the Pokemon with Stealth Rock support, except Forretress, Celebi, Suicune, Swampert and Rotom-A (Forretress can´t do anything to me, and the others need bold or relaxed nature to beat me). In this case it is always good to have two Swords Dance boosts.
It's a tough decision for me to choose between Occa Berry (helps me against Rotom-h and a predicted Fire-Type move from the opponent), Lum Berry (helps me against Celebi, Cresselia, Rotom-a and Machamp), or Shuca Berry that halves the damage from Scarf Flygon´s Earthquake. I use all three items in different occasions, however, I use Lum Berry more often.

Suicune - OvO

252HP/252Def/4SpD
Nature: Bold
Item: Leftovers
Ability: Pressure

- Calm Mind
- Rest
- Sleep Talk
- Surf

If my strategy fails, Suicune is a monster who assured me many victories due to the fact many players have no counters to it. Crocune is my game later sweeper because it can because it can be very hard to kill after some Calm Minds boosts. I need to be careful of Perish Song Celebi, Dragon Dance + Outrage from Salamence, Calm Mind Jirachi/Celebi and Trick from Starmie, Gengar and Rotom-A.

Dangerous Threats

Ani121MS.png
Starmie actually hinders my strategy, because it is able to use Rapid Spin and remove Stealth Rock and can 2HKO Gliscor with Ice Beam or Hydro Pump even with Light Screen on my side or annoy me with Trick.

Ani473MS.png
Ani461MS.png
Ice Shard can cause serious damage to Gliscor, shortening my time to use Rock Polish, Swords Dance and Baton Pass

Ani260MS.png
Swampert with Max Def can survive a 2 + Metagross Zen Headbutt and use Roar.

Ani479OMS.png
Bulky Rotom-A can survive a 2 + Metagross Zen Headbutt. Scarf Rotom-h can outspeed a 2 + Metagross and attack me with Overheat.

Ani330MS.png
Scarf Flygon can outspeed a 2 + Metagross and attack me with Earthquake (he fails to OHKO even without Shuca Berry)

Ani068MS.png
DynamicPunch annoys every Pokemon in my team (lol)
