XY UU Goborain: The Art of Getting Wet

Okay, well this is my first RMT but I have been around since the beginning of gen 5. Rain has always been my favorite weather in real life and that kind of led to me using it in pokemon. Let's do this!

Kabutops: Kabutops is the pokemon I build every rain team around, I'ts strong, has coverage, and is easily the best finisher.

Seismitoad: Next I needed a bulky swimmer that can set rocks and be an easy first switchin after I set rain, Seismitoad was the best answer there.

Golduck: I needed to find an answer to toxicroak and a setup special sweeper so I didn't totally rely on Seismitoad and that's when i found Golduck.

Kingdra: Something that can setup outside of rain and has decent type/bulk. Kingdra was the answer here.

Sableye: I needed a good lead setter and I found Sableye as a great one with prankster and great moveset possibilities.

Tornadus: The second setter I chose was Tornadus, it's a great mon that counters other pranksters by outspeeding them with taunt and it can take advantage of the rain with hurricane.

Team

Dark.png
Ghost.png

Sableye
Ability: Prankster
EV's: 252hp 252sp. def
Nature: Careful
Item: Damp Rock
Rain Dance, Taunt, Magic Coat, Foul Play

Sableye is your lead, rain dance is obvious, taunt is to stop subs and to stop them from setting rocks/webs after you magic coat their initial attempt at setting them. Foul play is to stop pokemon like lucario and mega absol from setting up on you first turn and killing your entire team with priority.

Water.png
Ground.png

Seismitoad:
Ability: Swift Swim
Ev's: 252 sp. attack 252 speed
Nature: Modest
Item: Life orb
Stealth rock, Hydro Pump, Grass Knot, Earth power

Seismitoad is a great switchin after sableye, it can take hits, sets up rocks, it can hit hard. and it can weaken mons like suicune and mega blastoise.

kingdra.gif

Water.png
Dragon.png

Kingdra:
Ability: Swift Swim
Ev's: 252 attack, 200 speed, 56 defense/sp.attack
Nature: Adamant/Naughty
Item: life orb
Dragon dance, Waterfall, iron head/draco meteor, outrage

Kingdra is your win condition, it can setup and do damage outside of rain and it's main purpose is to help weaken mons that resist rain. You can run adamant with iron head to hit obamasnow or draco to hit defense walls on switchin. The fastest scarfer that is usually used in UU is mienshao and you only need around 200 ev's to outspeed it in rain. The defense ev's are to help withstand physical priority attacks.

golduck.gif

Water.png

Golduck:
Ability: Swift Swim
Ev's: 252 sp.attack, 200 speed, 56 defense
Nature: Modest
Item: Life Orb
Calm Mind, Hydro Pump, Psyshock, Signal beam

Golduck just makes you laugh because nobody expects it to do much. They learn what it can do when they throw in florges to protect stall. It sets up in their face and just smacks things, Signal beam takes care of hydreigon, shaymin, and celebii while psyshock hits toxicroak and other stuff. The only thing to make this mon more op would be to give it psychic typing. The defense ev's are to help withstand physical priority attacks.

kabutops.gif

Water.png
Rock.png

Kabutops:
Ability: Swift Swim
Ev's: 252 attack, 236 speed, 20 defense
Nature: Adamant
Item: Life orb
Swords dance, Waterfall, X-scissor, Aqua Jet

This is one of my favorite pokemon of all time, I carry it on every rain team I make. Sometimes I feel like it can hear me when I ask it to flinch with waterfall when a game is on the line. X-scissor takes care of any grass or dark types. By the time you bring Kabutops in the other team should be worn down enough for it to sweep. The defense ev's are to help withstand physical priority attacks.

tornadus.gif

Flying.png

Tornadus:
Ability: Prankster
Ev's: 252 sp. attack, 252 speed, 4 defense
Nature: Timid
Item: Damp rock
Rain Dance, Hurricane, Grass Knot, Taunt

Tornadus is your second rain setter, it can grass knot water types to help weaken them and it can hurricane spam most other stuff. You can taunt pokemon to stop setups and you can outspeed other pranksters to stop them from taunting you and giving you trouble.

Threats to this team:

Sableye
: cause confuse hax

alomomola.gif

Blissey/alomomola
: this core beats this team

alakazam-mega.gif

MegaZam
: It traces swift swim

yanmega.gif

Yanmega: Don't let it speed boost on you

abomasnow-mega.gif

Mega Obamasnow
: wins weather wars and giga drains/seed bombs you to death

tentacruel.gif

Tentacruel
: Tspikes and water resistant (switch in golduck and setup on it)

I have many more rain teams but this is the one I use as a base to build others, message me in the underused room anytime if you have questions or want to try some other teams.

I don't ladder much but I'm at 1604 right now under the account gobosox2. I usually do tourneys in the underused room.

(Big shout out to Nightmare Vampire for helping me with this and a shoutout to all my friends in UU who said rain wouldn't work in gen 6)
Thanks for reading!

I really like your team but the thing is I would switch out golduck for Ludicolo for a few reasons one because it would deal with water types that might be a problem he can also be spc.def with a rain dish leech seed set or offensive with swift swim hydro pump giga drain/energy ball and ice beam im just saying that because i used this team a few times and golduck didn't do much torna took down most toxicroak I faced but the choice is yours
the Ludicolo set I used was:
Life Orb
Ability: Swift Swim
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Modest Nature
- Hydro Pump
- Energy Ball
- Ice Beam
- Rain Dance

That's definitely an option, swift swimmers are really interchangeable and I have a few teams with ludicolo. SD Ludi is another cool set to take care of bulky waters and rain dish is something I've wanted to try for a while. Thanks for the ideas man!

Have you ever considered using Politoed? It provides automatic rain, and can provide valuable team support. It would also free up another of your teamslots. However, if you did use Politoed, you would have really crappy team synergy, with 4 mons weak to electric and 4 mons weak to grass. Even if you don't use Politoed, I'd recommend Ferrothorn over one of your sweepers to provide some defensive support.

Fun team, Gobo. Although it uses some PU/NU pokes, it's very threatening, as I've experienced first hand:

First in foremost, what are your defence evs for? You should always discuss your decisions for that kinda stuff so other users can understand why you made those sets that way (I'm sure you have a good reason, the RMT community would just like to know it sort of thing). Once ORAS UU comes out, consider replacing Seismitoad for M-Swampert. Lastly, the biggest danger with switching something with Ludicolo is that your Yanmega weakness grows even higher.

Otherwise, this team looks good. As someone who's lost to it a couple of times, I can def say this is probably one of the most effective rain teams in UU, and is definitely worth a showcase.

Edit: You'll want to edit your sets so that they reflect proper import/export format. Further, include an import of your team in a /hide box.

Thanks for the help man, the defense ev's are to help them take the most common priority moves like espeed, mach punch, etc. and I'll put that in the the thread now. The import of team is at the very bottom in a hide box.

I just noticed it, you'll want to clean it up. My suggestion is to copy/paste before pasting.

I'm going to rate this, even though it is rain so basically 2-3 Rain Dancers + Abusers is all you need but whatever.

I'm not sure why you're running X-Scissor on Kabutops when you have a Signal Beam Golduck to bait Celebi and such, so I would suggest changing that to Stone Edge. Kabutops actually gives you a shot at breaking Blissey/Mola with Stone Edge and also lets you score the OHKO on Tentacruel at +2 and KO Abomasnow stock. I would also run speed creep on Sableye so you can get off a Taunt before opposing Sableye, because if they outspeed you they basically lose the game. Honestly, since Sableye is a suicide lead I would almost suggest just running 252 Speed EVs + Jolly in order to guarantee you'll be faster than opposing Sableye. I would also switch the Kingdra set to Mixed with Hydro Pump over Dragon Dance, since Hydro is going to be almost universally better and your win condition isn't really Kingdra, it's spamming Rain until the opposing team dies. The only other team based suggestion I would make is to use Toxicroak over Golduck. Toxicroak beats 6/7 of the Pokemon listed in your threats and provides a bit more of a solid defensive backbone vs shit like Mega Blastoise and Roserade, who would other just mop the floor with you. Just standard Life Orb should do the trick, but in case you don't know what that set is, i'll leave an import of the set below :] Nascar is still shit though but y'know nice and standard goborain :]

Once again, be mindful of your Yanmega weakness, even though Lochie's suggestion isn't wrong.
