Bug
========
Vivillon has one powerful trick, Compound Eyes Sleep Powder which nearly guarantees it will be starting the game off strong with a sleep for strong early momentum. However, as direct competition to Bug's other special attacking options, even ignoring Volcarona, Vivillon stands out as an especially appalling option. Frosmoth with the right support can potentially freeze Flying, Ground, and Dragon teams into a fine mist while Choice Specs Yanmega helps out greatly in breaking Poison teams. And that is ignoring just going all in with physical breakers with only Volcarona as a special attacking threat.

[SET]
Vivillon @ Focus Sash
name: Status Utility (Bug)
Ability: Compound Eyes
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Hurricane
- Sleep Powder
- Stun Spore
- Tailwind

[SET COMMENTS]
Focus Sash Vivillon finds a singular niche on Bug teams due to its wide variety of status moves and Compound Eyes allowing it to often lead off and immediately make progress. Hurricane deals with annoying Fighting- and Bug-types such as Iron Valiant and Lokix if its Focus Sash is still intact. Sleep Powder shuts down opposing leads such as Araquanid and Hippowdon then can use Stun Spore to threaten switch ins attempting to remove Vivillon like Kleavor or Ting-Lu. Finally, Tailwind gives additional speed control as Vivillon goes down enabling teammates such as enabling Bulky Volcarona variants to outspeed Choice Scarf Urshifu-R without a boost.

Setup teammates such as Swords Dance Scizor and Quiver Dance Volcarona greatly appreciate the free turns granted by Vivillon's Sleep Powder giving them a much easier time to setup. Both can also check threats for Vivillon should it be used outside of the lead slot such as Scizor handling Rock- and Fairy-types like Kleavor, Hatterene, and Flutter Mane while Volcarona melts through Steel-types like Corviknight and Gholdengo. Choice Scarf Kleavor provides Stealth Rock support through Stone Axe along with elimitating Fire-types like Volcarona and Iron Moth and greatly appreciates the Stun Spore support and Tailwind to outspeed opposing Choice Scarf users like Iron Boulder and Greninja. Forretress can remove Stealth Rock with Rapid Spin to preserve Vivillon's Focus Sash while also bringing it in safely with Volt Switch should its talents be needed later in a game. Furthermore when equipped with Rocky Helment, Forretress can deal with threats attempting to counterlead Vivillon such as non-Punching Glove Urshifu-R and Triple Axel Meowscarada. Araquanid provides Sticky Web reducing the need for Tailwind in the first place and allowing Vivillon to get the jump on the likes of Choice Band Dragapult and non-Choice Scarf Urshifu-R. Lokix utilizes First Impression to easily remove Meowscarada and Iron Boulder while also using Knock Off to check Gholdengo.

Quiver Dance serves as an alternative option over Tailwind as it can make use of the free turns granted by Sleep Powder or attempts to mitigated it through the likes of Protect from Gliscor to start setting up and break through a team. However, it is stuck realistically with only Flying STAB for reliable offensive pressure rendering it useless at actually threatening Status Absorbers like Gholdengo and incapable of threatening Steel- and Electric-types long term.

As direct competition to Bug's other special attacking options even ignoring Volcarona, Vivillon stands out as an especially appalling option. Frosmoth with the right support can potentially crush Flying, Ground, and Dragon teams into a fine mist while Choice Specs Yanmega helps out greatly in breaking bulkier Steel and Poison teams. And that is ignoring just going for another physical breaker such as Lokix or Slither Wing. But Vivillon does have one powerful trick in Compound Eyes Sleep Powder which nearly guarantees it will be starting the game off strong with a sleep. (I would order this around and talk about the upside on vivillon first then talk about its flaws / competiton.)

EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Hurricane
- Sleep Powder
- Stun Spore
- Tailwind / Quiver Dance (Move this to OO and explain as well why it's just a poor option due to vivillon being a poor setup sweeper + you basically wasting your sleep turns which overall, mono flying stab is just awful)

[SET COMMENTS]
Vivillon finds a singular niche on Bug teams due to off its access to a wide variety of status moves and Compound Eyes allowing it to often lead off and immediately make progress. (would mention focus sash in the intro as well as this is like the main purpose of the butterfly: Sash lead that can either trade with a mon thanks to sash or fire off a sleep to enable setup sweepers.) Hurricane deals with annoying Fighting- and Bug-types such as Iron Valiant and Lokix if its Ffocus Ssash is still intact. Sleep Powder combined with Stun Spore can shutdown opposing leads like Araquanid and Greninja and then paralyze an attempt to switch into a threat to remove Vivillon like Kleavor or Ting-Lu. (this reads weird, i would mention the mons your shutting down [basically what are you sleeping first, then mention the paralyze targets.] Would also change the sleep target on gren as overall vs vivillon bug, your starting off with a mon that can pressure it ohko it on the spot, bypassing the sash in meowscarada clicking Triple Axel. I would mention like another mu like hippowdon ground instead.) Finally, Tailwind gives additional speed control one more burst of speed (there is no other burst of speed viv provides as stun spore is hinder the opp's speed=Speed control.) as Vivillon goes down enabling teammates such as enabling Bulky Volcarona variants to outspeed Choice Scarf Urshifu-R without a boost. Alternatively, Quiver Dance makes use of the free turns granted by Sleep Powder or attempts to mitigated it through the likes of Protect from Gliscor to start setting up and break through a team. (OO, refer to above.)

Other (viv is not a setup mon its enabling its setup teammates.)

Forretress can remove Stealth Rock with Rapid Spin and bring Vivillion in safely with Volt Switch should its talents be needed later in a game while also handling priority from the likes of Hisuian Samurott and Scizor. (Can remove these examples as I would just specify matchups where vivillion wouldn't be used as a lead and appreciate the volt switch support because otherwise this line is not needed as again thats the butterfly's job. Basically mus that have anti viv leads for example: Urshifu-R Fighting and Water, Meowscarada Dark and Grass, but you dont have to mention grass lol. Some Ghost / Dragon comps with Band Pult.) Araquanid provides Sticky Web reducing the need for Tailwind in the first place and allowing Vivillion to get the jump on the likes of Barraskewda and Choice Scarf Great Tusk. (odd example since barra is exclusive on rain water. and is overall still faster than us via rain turns. I would mention non-Choice Scarf Urshifu-r instead as that is a pain in the ass for bug teams overall + just anti leads vs Vivillon. But even then i would change tusk example as well as viv doesn't really care about getting the jump on tusk as its purpose is to just trade lol thanks to focus sash. Band Pult is great example.) Lokix utilizes provides First Impression to easily remove Meowscarada and Iron Boulder while also using Knock Off to check Gholdengo.

Poison teams. And that is ignoring just going all in with physical breakers with only Volcarona as a special attacking threat.
