Snegurochka (Froslass) @ Focus Sash
Ability: Cursed Body
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Spikes
- Taunt
- Destiny Bond
- Shadow Ball
Named after a Russian folklore character said to melt when given the ability to feel love by her mother Spring, Froslass serves as this team's suicide lead. Her job is to get rid of any threatening leads such as Ferrothorn or Hippowdon by leading with Taunt to get rid of Spikes/TSpikes/Stealth Rocks setups, set up at least one layer of spikes, and finish them off with a Destiny Bond to take out their lead. Shadow Ball is used for coverage against mons such as Hatterene with Magic Bounce to counter Froslass's ability to set up Spikes.
Nane Sarma (Ninetales-Alola) (F) @ Light Clay
Ability: Snow Warning
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Aurora Veil
- Freeze-Dry
- Moonblast
- Encore
Named after an Iranian folklore character said to be the coming of winter and wife of spring, Ninetales serves as the followup to Froslass and as a secondary lead. Her main strategy is to set up Aurora Veil as soon as she comes out and, if possible, use Encore on mons that may try to set up hazards once the taunt from Froslass wears off if they haven't been taken out by Destiny Bond as well as deal with setup sweepers like Bisharp and Gyarados. Moonblast is used to discourage and take care of fighting type mons that may otherwise do big damage to the team such as Tapu Bulu and Kommo-o. Finally, Freeze-Dry is used to take care of those pesky water types like Toxapex that the rest of my team doesn't have a lot of coverage for.
Itztlacoliuhqui (Cloyster) (M) @ Focus Sash
Ability: Skill Link
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpA / 252 Spe
Naive Nature
- Shell Smash
- Icicle Spear
- Rock Blast
- Hydro Pump
Named after the Aztec god of frost and lifeless matter, Cloyster serves as an early/late game setup sweeper. Cloyster's main synergy is Ninetales, which covers it with Aurora Veil to set up at least one Shell Smash before taking out whoever he's facing with Icicle Spear, Rock Blast, or occasionally Hydro Pump. Focus Sash is used to give Cloyster a chance against fast Electric types like Zeraora and Regieleki. Cloyster was originally set up with White Herb, but I decided to forgoe that because of the extra defensive coverage of Aurora Veil and the needed counters against Electric types so that Cloyster could deal more damage in the late game and against Electric teams.
Boreas (Avalugg) (M) @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Sturdy
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 Def
Impish Nature
- Rapid Spin
- Avalanche
- Body Press
- Recover
Named after the Roman god of the northern wind and of winter, Avalugg serves as this team's main spinner as well as a bit of a defensive wall. Avalugg works to clear the field of debilitating Stealth Rocks, Toxic Spikes, and slightly less debilitating but still annoying Spikes. When those are cleared, Avalugg uses his heavy weight to his advantage by using Body Press to take care of Normal, Steel, and other Ice types, while using Avalanche to take care of hard hitters that resist or take less damage from Body Press. When threatened, Avalugg uses Recover to restore the HP he's lost and keep himself in the field a little longer so he can either take out his foe or switch out to clear more potential hazards.
Morozko (Darmanitan-Galar) (M) @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Gorilla Tactics
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Icicle Crash
- U-turn
- Flare Blitz
- Earthquake
Named after a Russian fairytale spirit of winter that mimics the intentions of those it meets (being mean to those who are mean to it and vice versa), Darmanitan is the heaviest hitter of the set and serves his role as an early game sweeper and cleanup killer. He uses Flare Blitz to deal with threatening Steel types, Icicle Crash as his main STAB move to beat out Ground, Grass, and Dragon types, Earthquake to deal with Rock, Poison, Steel, and Fire types, and U-turn to predict switches and deal cheap but strong damage to Psychic and Dark types. Darmanitan is used primarily in the early game where he can easily KO up to 3 or 4 Pokemon with Flare Blitz if they don't resist it and if needed can be kept until the late game to serve as a cleanup and revenge killer against strong types that can easily stomp through the team such as Rock, Steel, and Fighting.
Jack Frost (Weavile) (M) @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Knock Off
- Triple Axel
- Low Kick
- Foul Play
Named after a Norse personification of winter later brought to England and subsequently the United States, Weavile serves as the team's primary revenge killer. Weavile can pressure mons like Jirachi, Cloyster, Tyranitar, and Bisharp with Foul Play and Low Kick while dealing with and outspeeding Scarfed Gengar and Noivern due to its own Choice Scarf. Weavile also serves to punish setup sweepers due to its STAB Foul Play and deals with offensive psychic types with Knock Off. Triple Axel was chosen over Ice Shard and Icicle Crash due to its great damage output. Weavile synergizes with the Ninetales's Aurora Veil, allowing it to tank Moonblasts, and Avalugg's Rapid Spin, saving the fragile Weavile from a 25% hit from Stealth Rocks.
