Thanks to its fantastic Eviolite-boosted bulk, defensive typing, and utility moves, Golbat functions as a great stallbreaker. Toxic, Taunt, and a Toxic immunity allow Golbat to easily shut down common passive walls such as Miltank and Altaria. Super Fang hits Steel-types, which are immune to Toxic, such as Klinklang and Alolan Dugtrio. Brave Bird instead allows Golbat to hit Thwackey and Sawk harder, in addition to being able to KO Poison-types such as Skuntank and Silvally-Poison. The EV spread enables Golbat to outspeed Qwilfish, Cramorant, and Sawk.

Golbat is best used on stall and bulky offense teams looking for a Pokemon to help check Fighting- and Grass-types. Stealth Rock setters like Miltank, Rhydon, and Stunfisk all benefit from Golbat's presence to handle these types, with Rhydon and Stunfisk handling Electric-types and Miltank providing Heal Bell support. Late-game cleaners such as Thwackey, Sawk, and Rotom appreciate Super Fang wearing down walls. Steel-types such as Klinklang and Alolan Dugtrio make great partners, covering Golbat's Rock, Psychic, and Ice weaknesses. As Golbat is reliant on Eviolite for its bulk, Pokemon that can take a Knock Off such as Gourgeist-XL and Silvally formes are appreciated. Entry hazard removers such as Articuno, Altaria, and Kabutops compensate for Eviolite barring Golbat from running Heavy-Duty Boots.

Despite Golbat's middling Special Attack, Nasty Plot sets are plausible thanks to its great bulk and typing providing setup opportunities. It has great coverage options in Giga Drain and Heat Wave for Rock-, Steel-, and Ice-types. Defog sets also find a place in Golbat's toolkit, seeing it perform as a defensive pivot with U-turn.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Steel-types**: Steel-type Pokemon such as Klinklang and Alolan Dugtrio are immune to Toxic and resist Brave Bird, walling Golbat without Super Fang and hitting back hard with their attacks.

**Electric-types**: Electric-type Pokemon such as Rotom, Manectric, and Morpeko resist Brave Bird and threaten Golbat with their STAB attacks.

**Rock-types**: Rock-type Pokemon like Rhydon, Lycanroc-N, and Kabutops resist Brave Bird and threaten Golbat with their STAB attacks.

**Ice-types**: Ice-type Pokemon such as Articuno, Jynx, and Piloswine threaten Golbat with their super effective STAB attacks. Jynx, however, cannot switch into Brave Bird without the risk of being OHKOed.

The EV spread enables Golbat to hit the base 85 Speed benchmark consisting of Qwilfish, Cramorant, and Sawk whilst increasing bulk in defense.

The combination of Toxic and Taunt, whilst being immune to Toxic itself, allows Golbat to easily shut down common passive walls such as Miltank and Altaria. Super Fang is used to hit steel-types which are immune to Toxic and resist Brave Bird This makes it sound like you run both on one set; the Toxic immunity is what makes them annoying for you such as Klinklang, and Alolan Dugtrio. Brave Bird allows Golbat to hit Thwackey and Sawk and harder, in addition to being able to knock out Pokemon immune to Toxic A bit poorly phrased because you generalize it here but Steel types, which are immune to Toxic, aren't hit by BB; I'd prolly rewrite it to Poison types and list Clefairy as a special case or remove Clefairy such as Clefairy and Skuntank. The EV spread enables Golbat to hit outspeed the base 85 Speed benchmark consisting of Qwilfish, Cramorant, and Sawk whilst increasing bulk in defense.
