Golurk is a niche but effective wallbreaker in the tier, using its powerful STAB moves and coverage options to blow holes through defensive cores with ease. Dynamic Punch, with the accuracy assurance granted by No Guard, allows Golurk to disrupt foes that otherwise wall it and hits Dark-types like Umbreon and Krookodile super effectively. Stone Edge can be used to hit Flying-types like Salamence and Talonflame for massive damage. Substitute allows Golurk to scout, such as for a switch-in or status attempt from Galarian Weezing and Umbreon, safely while also disrupting Sucker Punch from slower Bisharp. Stealth Rock sets are quite effective at establishing entry hazards, as Golurk can threaten common hazard removal options like Cyclizar and Noivern. Choice Band allows Golurk to threaten 2HKOs on foes like Galarian Weezing, Hippowdon, and Chesnaught with Stealth Rock chip damage. Life Orb can be used to still hit the Galarian Weezing 2HKO benchmark without needing to lock into an attack. With a Colbur Berry and the allocated HP investment, Golurk can take a Sucker Punch from +2 Bisharp and a Knock Off from Choice Band Krookodile. No Guard allows Golurk to use its most powerful moves without the risk of missing. The Speed investment allows Golurk to outpace Wo-Chien and uninvested Bisharp. Tera Ground removes the weaknesses to Dark and Ghost while pushing the damage output of Earthquake to near unwallable levels, securing a 2HKO on Hippowdon with Life Orb and after Stealth Rock chip damage. Tera Fighting similarly flips the weakness to Dark, helping non-Colbur Berry sets more effectively take on Bisharp and Krookodile while also increasing the damage of Dynamic Punch enough for Life Orb sets to OHKO Umbreon.
With a potent offensive STAB combination of Ghost / Ground, Golurk is an excellent wallbreaker on balance and offense teams. Choice Band sets work best when given safe entry points against walls like Hippowdon and Slowbro, making teammates like Cyclizar, Jirachi, and Slither Wing important to lure them in and allow Golurk to fire off its powerful attacks. Hippowdon and Jirachi are notable teammates for Golurk for their ability to use Stealth Rock so Golurk can opt to run more offensive sets. Life Orb Golurk is susceptible to getting worn down by its own recoil and chip damage, making teammates like Healing Wish Gardevoir and Wish Umbreon especially valuable to maintain its health. Defensively, Golurk appreciates teammates like Cyclizar and Slowbro, as they can sponge the powerful Ghost- and Water-type attacks thrown at it from foes like Basculegion-F, Hisuian Zoroark, and Barraskewda. Offensive teams that rely on Sticky Web support from Ribombee can slow foes like Magnezone and Hisuian Goodra down enough to let Golurk wallbreak more efficiently, though it does activate Defiant on Bisharp, meaning Sticky Web teams should opt for a Colbur Berry to ensure Golurk can survive the Sucker Punch to remove a powerful threat. Substitute Golurk can afford to use Life Orb, especially on Sticky Web teams where it can bait the Sucker Punch from Bisharp and then throw out powerful attacks uncontested, as well as on teams that can give it safe entry points against slower foes like Registeel and Slowbro often.
