[SET COMMENTS]
Gourgeist-L is a prominent physical wall able to handle top threats such as Machoke, Pikachu, and Choice Band Gourgeist-L. Synthesis provides it reliable recovery. Toxic cripples opposing walls such as Shiinotic, Vespiquen, and Vullaby putting them on a timer. Alternatievely, Will-O-Wisp hinders physical attackers such as Stonjourner and Trevenant, allowing Gourgeist-L to check them. Foul Play lets Gourgeist-L threaten Grass-resistant attackers such as Fraxure, Trevenant, and Gourgeist-L. Leech Seed is an alternative providing additional recovery and chipping the foe. It also helps other teammates to beat defensive setup sweepers such as Double Dance Klang and Cosmic Power Gothitelle. Whereas Power Whip is a powerful STAB move enabling Gourgeist-L to threaten plenty targets such as Hippopotas, Seaking, and Whiscash. Without an item, Gourgeist-L can wall Poltergeist users such as Choice Band Gourgeist-L and Trevenant lacking Shadow Claw. Moreover, it increases its ability to wall Knock Off users such as Pikachu, Machoke, and Persian.

Defensive Gourgeist-L is a good pick for every team looking for a good physical wall. Since Gourgeist-L checks VoltTurn users such as Persian, Seaking, and Pikachu, it gets quickly chipped by them and hazards, therefore hazard removers such as Vullaby, Hattrem, and Vespiquen are appreciated. Special walls such as Klang, Dusclops, and Vespiquen can form a solid defensive core with Gourgeist-L, the former handling Special attackers and the latter dealing with physical ones. Ice-resistant Pokemon such as Seaking, Klang, and Corsola handle Ice-types such as Silvally-Ice, Galarian Mr. Mime, and Beartic that threaten Gourgeist-L. Machoke is also a great partner that take care of Stonjourner, Ice-, and Dark-types that beat Gourgeist-L.

[SET]
name: Choice Band
move 1: Power Whip
move 2: Poltergeist
move 3: Shadow Sneak / Grassy Glide
move 4: Trick / Explosion
item: Choice Band
ability: Frisk
nature: Adamant
evs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]
Choice Band Gourgeist-L is an extremely powerful wallbreaker thanks to two strong STAB moves and a great offensive typing allowing it to threaten most of the tier. Poltergeist and Power Whip are extremely powerful STAB moves that can be easily spamed to break down teams. Shadow Sneak is a STAB priority move enabling Gourgeist-L to threaten faster attackers such as Galarian Mr. Mime, Lunatone, and Pikachu. If paired with Grookey, Shadow Sneak can be replaced by Grassy Glide, which is a stronger priority move under Grassy Terrain, allowing Gourgeist-Large to threaten bulkier faster attackers such as Stonjourner, weakened Silvally-Ice, and Stoutland. Trick cripples these same checks while also providing an item to itemless checks such as Gourgeist-L, Shiinotic, and Bellossom, allowing Gourgeist-L to hit them for strong damage with Poltergeist. Alternatively, Explosion enables Gourgeist-L to remove some of its counters such as itemless Shiinotic, Vullaby, and Zweilous after some chips, opening the door for another teammates. Thanks to Frisk, Gourgeist-L scouts opposing item allowing to know if it can hit the opponent with Poltergeist. A Choice Band paired with an Adamant nature maximizes Gourgeist-L's damage outputs.

Choice Band Gourgeist-L fits very well in offensive teams, especially Grassy Terrain offense. In fact, it can form a solid Grass spam core with Grookey and Trevenant, weakening their common checks such as Vullaby, itemless Gourgeist-L, and Ivysaur with Trick and Poltergeist, in order to clean with Grassy Glide spam. Ice-types such as Silvally-Ice, Glalie, and Galarian Mr. Mime make for great partner as they threaten most counters to Choice Band Gourgeist-L such as Zweilous, itemless Grass-types, and Vullaby. Gourgeist-L's ability to remove Ground-types such as Palpitoad, Hippopotas, and Whiscash is greatly appreciated by Stonjourner and Electric-types such as Pikachu and Dedenne, that struggle with them.

name: Nasty Plot
move 1: Nasty Plot
move 2: Shadow Ball
move 3: Moonblast
move 4: Giga Drain / Fire Blast
item: Life Orb / No item
ability: Frisk
nature: Modest / Timid
evs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]
While weaker as the other sets, Nasty Plot Gourgeist-L is a threatening wallbreaker; as it doesn't share the same defensive counterplay as the other sets, it can allow it to lure in and beat some of its would be checks. Shadow Ball is Gourgeist-L's best STAB move, hitting most of the tier for at least neutral damage and targeting special walls such as Dusclops and Bronzor. Moonblast is an excellent coverage move removing Dark-types such as Zweilous and Vullaby, that are able to wall other Gourgeist-L sets. Giga Drain can be used as a secondary STAB move that lets Gourgeist-L break through Pyukumuku and provides it extra recovery. However, Fire Blast is an option that lets Gourgeist-L threaten common walls such as Klang, Vespiquen, and Shiinotic that take little from Gourgeist-L's other moves. Life Orb makes up for Gourgeist-L's lackluster Special Attack stat, whereas forgoing an item lets Gourgeist-L block Poltergeist from physical Gourgeist-L and Dusclops.

Due to its low initial power, Gourgeist-L needs a large amount of damage on its checks to beat them, therefore entry hazard setters such as Mudbray, Glalie, and Vespiquen are appreciated. Moreover, Gourgeist-L can act as a spinblocker to keep them up. VoltTurn users such as Silvally-Ice, Raichu, and Emolga can also chip Gourgeist-L's checks, additionally they can provide Gourgeist-L setup opportunities. Strong Special attackers such as Choice Specs Raichu, Choice Specs Mr. Mime, and Meteor Beam Lunatone can put specially bulky Pokemon in Gourgeist-L's range. Physical wallbreakers such as Stonjourner, Silvally-Ice, and Machoke threaten special walls that handle Gourgeist-L.

[SET]
name: Tank
move 1: Poltergeist
move 2: Shadow Sneak
move 3: Power Whip / Toxic
move 4: Synthesis
item:
ability: Frisk
nature: Adamant
evs: 72 HP / 252 Atk / 184 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]
This set pairs Gourgeist-L's great bulk with its good offensive capacities, it can check prominent threats such as Pikachu, Raichu, and Stoutland while retaining an offensive presence. Poltergeist is a very powerful STAB move that hits most of the tier for neutral damage and can break through walls such as Vespiquen, Specially defensive Klang, and Dusclops. Shadow Sneak is a STAB priority move letting Gourgeist-L threaten faster threats such as Mr. Mime, Lunatone, and Galarian Mr. Mime. Thanks to Power Whip, Gourgeist-L can threaten Dark- and Normal-types such as Morgrem, Galarian Linoone, and Persian, and also break through common walls such as Palpitoad and Hippopotas. Alternatively, Toxic cripples defensive checks such as Vullaby, itemless Bellossom, and itemless Shiinotic, but leaves Gourgeist-L harmless against Normal- and Dark-types. Synthesis provides Gourgeist-L reliable recovery, allowing it to sponge hits during the whole game. With 184 EVs in Speed, Gourgeist-L outspeed neutral nature base 60 Speed such as Whiscash and Oranguru. Alternatively, it can run 64 Speed which outspeed neutral nature Machoke and Octillery to increase its bulk.

Fast but frail attackers such as Emolga, Galarian Mr. Mime, and Persian appreciate Gourgeist-L's ability to cover priority users such as Grookey, Pikachu, and Persian and provide speed control to Gourgeist-L's team. Ice-type checks such as Klang, Corsola, and Wartortle are appreciated for their ability to wall threats to Gourgeist-L such as Glalie, Beartic, and Silvally-Ice. Due to its good bulk and Ghost-typing, Gourgeist-L acts as a potent spinblocker, therefore hazard setters such as Krokorok, Stonjourner, and Glalie make for great partners. If lacking Power Whip, Gourgeist-L is harmless versus Normal- and Dark-types, therefore Fighting-types such as Machoke and Hakamo-o are appreciated. Else Gourgeist-L foregoes Toxic and struggle with defensive Grass-types such as Gloom and Shiinotic, therefore attackers that beat them such as Galarian Mr. Mime, Emolga, and Silvally-Ice are potent teammates.

[SET]
name: Weakness Policy
move 1: Flame Charge
move 2: Power Whip
move 3: Poltergeist
move 4: Shadow Sneak / Rock Slide
item: Weakness Policy
ability: Frisk
nature: Adamant
evs: 72 HP / 252 Atk / 184 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]
Weakness Policy Gourgeist is a niche sweeper for hyper offensive teams. Flame Charge boosts Gourgeist-L's Speed and lets it remove weakened itemless Grass-types such as Gourgeist-L, Shiinotic, and Bellossom. Shadow Sneak lets Gourgeist-L remove fast threats such as Choice Scarf Mr. Mime, Raichu, and Emolga, since even after a Flame Charge, Gourgeist-L is slower than them. Rock Slide can be used in order to deal with Vullaby, however it has to forego its ability to hit fast attackers. The given EVs spread lets Gourgeist-L outspeed Modest Whiscash and Oranguru, and Galarian Mr. Mime and Galarian Linoone after a Flame Charge, while also giving it a bit of bulk to ease the Weakness Policy activation. Thanks to its Weakness Policy, Gourgeist-L can boost its Attack to high level, if it gets hit by a weak super effective move such as Vullaby's and Raichu's Knock Off.

Morgrem is a partner of choice for this set since it provides Dual Screen support which eases Weakness Policy activation and it also threaten Vullaby and Vullaby that wall Gourgeist-L. Psychic-types that also struggle with Vullaby and Zweilous such as Nasty Plot Gothitelle, Beheeyem, and Oranguru can weaken them for Gourgeist-L's sweep. Likewise, attackers that struggle with itemless Grass-types such as Machoke, Stoutland, and Raichu can weaken them for Gourgeist-L. Ice-types such as Glalie, Silvally-Ice, and Galarian Mr. Mime are able to break through Gourgeist-L's counters, making them great teammates.

Make toxic the first slash over will'o as its just a lot better to cripple walls then fish for burns this gen. I'd also just remove sneak and any mentions of it as you only have 1-2 real target for it (mime-g and a much more weakened mime because of filter) and things like leech seed (which I'd make the first slash) and to a lesser extent power whip have much more critical applications for dealing with things like klang and whiscash

I think the speed on gourg can also drop down to 40 to out speed max speed adamant grap. Octillery just isn't seeing any play in the meta thanks to Whiscash being the go-to choice for water wall breaker so I'd much rather just have the extra bulk and cut the extra creep.

Will-O-Wisp cripples physical attackers such as Stonjourner and Trevenant, allowing Gourgeist-L to check them. Toxic is an alternative that cripples opposing walls such as Shiinotic, Vespiquen, and Vullaby putting them on a timer.
Swap these two around given Toxic is going to be the new main and will'o the slash

Foul Play lets Gourgeist-L threaten Grass-resistant attackers such as Fraxure, Shift Gear Klang, and Tank Gourgeist-L.
4 Atk Gourgeist-Large Foul Play vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Eviolite Klang: 40-48 (12.3 - 14.8%) -- possible 7HKO
Replace the klang mention here for maybe like treve and swap tank geist here to CB geist as its far more common then the tank version

Power Whip is a powerful STAB move enabling Gourgeist-L to threaten plenty targets such as Hippopotas, Seaking, and Galarian Linoone.
replace linoone for whiscash as its a LOT more relevant in the meta right now

Whereas Leech Seed is an alternative providing additional recovery and chipping the foe.
I'd make a mention of leech seed helping to deal with bulky set up sweepers like ID klang and maybe some other if you can find some it helps with. Otherwise just a klang mention would do!

Moreover, it increases its ability to wall Knock Off users such as Pikachu, Flame Orb Machoke, and Grookey.
I'd just cut the flame orb part and say machoke in general as its useful for the max atk eviolite sets too and swap Grookey for persian or seaking as grookey really has fallen out of the meta

Defensive Gourgeist-L is a good pick for every weatherless team looking for a good physical wall.
I think weatherless is kinda needless here as we only have 1 weather it conflicts with (sand) and its not a super common pick. I'd just make a mention that it conflicts with sand somewhere and open this part up as "Defensive Gourgeist-L is a very good pick for any teams looking for a good physical wall" as just a more generic opener.

Since Gourgeist-L checks VoltTurn users such as Persian, Grookey, and Pikachu, it gets quickly chipped by them and hazards
I'd drop Grookey here as not only is it not extremely meta, but the terrain actually heals you which negates the chip so it kinda goes against the point you're going for here.

it gets quickly chipped by them and hazards, therefore hazard removers such as Vullaby, Galarian Mr. Mime, and Vespiquen
personally I think spin mime isn't really that great of a set, so I'd like to see Hattrem replace it here on the list for hazard denial but its fine to keep here if you'd rather just keep it to hazard removal. Just a suggestion.

Special walls such as Klang, Dusclops, and Zweilous can form a solid defensive core with Gourgeist-L, the former handling Special attackers and the latter dealing with physical ones.
Replace Zweilous here for something else because the best zweilous sets are physically defensive now. Probably for vesp.

Ice-resistant Pokemon such as Seaking, Klang, and Corsola handle Ice-types such as Silvally-Ice, Glalie, and Beartic that threaten Gourgeist-L.
Add mime-g to this list as its the go-to ice type to beat right now

move 3: Shadow Sneak / Grassy Glide
move 4: Explosion / Trick
item: Choice Band
ability: Frisk
nature: Adamant
evs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
I'd swap trick and Explosion. Trick pretty much lets you break the exact same stuff Explosion might look to but without the needed chip it would take to get stuff like vullaby into kill range of explosion.

While good, its weird you're leading with this and just glossing over what makes the mon so scary, namely poltergeist and power whip being extremely strong STAB options you get to just spam and break teams down with. I'd definitely lead talking about those 2 first and save this for after

Thanks to Explosion, Gourgeist-L can remove some of its counters such as itemless Shiinotic, Vullaby, and Zweilous, opening the door for another teammates.
I'd mention "after some chip" as it fails to ohko any of them.

spaming powerful priority Grassy Glide and weakening their common checks such as Vullaby, itemless Gourgeist-L, and Ivysaur.
This part doesn't really make sense to me. The idea with grassy terrain teams is you want to break down these pokemon with the use of trick and strong poltergeists so that way you can clean with grassy glide after they're removed. You don't spam grassy glide on them to break them down as it does minimal damage to any of this. Unless I'd understanding this part incorrectly in which case it should probably be more clearly worded.

Gourgeist-L's ability to remove Ground-types such as Palpitoad, Hippopotas, and Whiscash is greatly appreciated by Stonjourner and Electric-types such as Pikachu and Dedenne, that struggle with them.
Replace Dedenne for Raichu as its the only electric (aside from surf pika lure sets) that actually doesn't care about bulky gounds.
name: Nasty Plot
move 1: Nasty Plot

move 3: Moonblast
move 4: Giga Drain / Fire Blast
item: Life Orb / Colbur Berry
ability: Frisk

I'd slash no item instead of Colbur and slash timid after modest because it forces CB geist into shadow sneaking instead of going for a speed tie

While weaker as the other sets, Nasty Plot Gourgeist-L is a threatening wallbreaker, as it doesn't share the same defensive counterplay as the other sets.
I'd change it to something like "as it doesn't share the same defensive counter play as the other sets, it can allow it to lure in and beat some of its would be checks" as the luring and beating the CB variants checks and counters are really what drives the set to being good.

whereas Colbur Berry lets Gourgeist-L more easily deal with Dark-types such as Linoone-Galar, Zweilous, and Morgrem.
I think this clearly shows why colbur is worse then no item. Remove this and replace it for why no item blocking poltergeist is good.

therefore entry hazard setters such as Vespiquen, Carkol, and Palpitoad are appreciated.
I'd reword this to list rockers (and more relevant ones then carkol) first, and then spikes/tspikes second.
Shadow Sneak is a STAB priority move letting Gourgeist-L threaten faster threats such as Mr. Mime, Lunatone, and Raichu
you pretty much resist whatever raichu wants to do to you aside from knock off which you're itemless for. I'd replace it for something a little more threatening to geist like regular mime

With 64 EVs in Speed, Gourgeist-L outspeeds Adamant Machoke and Modest Octillery, enabling it to threaten them with its powerful STAB moves. Alternatively, it can run 184 Speed EVs to outspeed neutral nature base 60 Speed such as Whiscash and Oranguru to the detriment of bulk or power.
Honestly I'd make 184 speed the standard to hit with 64 being the alternative set you can go for to get some extra bulk. Out speeding whiscash is such a huge point to hit in the meta right now

Ice-type checks such as Klang, Corsola, and Wartortle are appreciated for their ability to wall threats to Gourgeist-L such as Glalie, Beartic, and Silvally-Ice.
Replace Glalie with Mime-g as its a lot more of a common ice type to have to wall out

Due to its good bulk and Ghost-typing, Gourgeist-L acts as a potent spinblocker, therefore hazard setters such as Glalie, Whirlipede, and Carkol make for great partners.
Ideally rockers (and more relevant ones) come first!

If lacking Power Whip, Gourgeist-L is harmless versus Normal- and Dark-types, therefore Fighting-types such as Grapploct and Hakamo-o are appreciated.
Replace Hakamo-o for machoke as its a lot more standard of a fighting type
