[OVERVIEW]

*Gourgeist's bulk and reliable recovery allows it to sponge many physical attacks with ease.
*Ghost teams appreciate Gourgeist's Ground and Grass resistance along with its reliable recovery, allowing it to check Ground and Grass wallbreakers.
*Leech Seed and Will-O-Wisp are valuable moves that wear the opposing team down while crippling physical attackers
*Frisk can be used to make predictions later on in the game, as Pokemon like Gengar and Chandelure appreciate the ability to tell whether a Pokemon such as Hydreigon is holding Scarf or Specs.
*However, it stacks a Dark type weakness while also being spike bait.
*Since Gourgeist has an abysmal special defense, most special attackers can come in on it and do considerable damage, as special attackers do not fear burns nor Leech Seed.
*Gourgeist's lack of offensive presence makes it passive and beaten by defensive threats such as Mega Venusaur, Mega Sableye, and Toxapex.
[SET]

evs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD

[SET COMMENTS]
Moves
========

*Leech Seed allows Gourgeist to sap the opponent's health, while whittling down their HP.
*Will-o-Wisp provides utility and cripples physical attackers.
*Synthesis is Gourgeist’s reliable recovery, and allows it to sustain throughout the match.
*Seed Bomb helps Ghost deal with Water, Ground and Rock threats, such as Seismitoad, Mamoswine, Tyranitar, and Manaphy.
*Foul Play prevents Gourgeist from becoming setup fodder to the likes of Mega Scizor and Dragonite, as both of them do considerable with a few boosts and Scizor can stall Gourgeist out with Swords Dance + Roost.

Set Details
========

*Having HP and Defense along with an Impish nature allows Gourgeist to serve as a physical tank
*Frisk allows Gourgeist to act as a scout, and reveals the foe's choiced items as well as their Z-moves.
*4 EVs are put into Special Defense to support its low special defense.
*Leftovers provides passive recovery, as well as cancels out burn, hail, and sandstorm.
*Bold supports the Foul Play set, and minimizes attack along with opposing Foul Play damage.

Usage Tips
========

*If the opponent lacks a grass type on their team, Gourgeist is free to spam leech seed.
*Pull double switches in order to get offensive pokemon like Gengar in safetly and to retain momentum.
*Always try burning a threat before hitting it with a Foul Play.
*Pay attention to Synthesis' PP. Try not to use Synthesis in front of Pokemon with Pressure, because Pressure will diminish the move's PP.
*Always burn a physical attacker before Leech Seeding it.
*If Gourgeist gets badly poisoned, switch it in and out in order to minimize the stacking residual damage.
*Try to weaken foes with residual damage enough so that sweepers like Gengar Chandelure and Mimikyu are able to revenge kill the weakened target.
*Sack Gourgeist at the right time so Frisk could affect the outcome of the match.
*Hard switch Gourgeist into Pokémon with setup moves in order to burn & Foul Play the Pokemon before it gets out of hand.

Team Options
========

*As Gourgeist is usually ran on Balanced Ghost, Mega Sableye and Jellicent are great team mates as they form Ghost's defensive core.
*Jellicent appreciates Gourgeist's ability to take Fire, Ice, and special attacks, and in return Gourgeist takes Grass, Electric, and physical attacks for Jellicent.
*Mega Sableye bounces back hazards, status, Taunt, and also acts as a nice Dark sponge.
*Additionally, Leech Seed supports Sableye's inability to hold Leftovers.
*As many offensive Pokemon on Ghost are frail, Gengar, Chandelure, and Mimikyu all appreciate Gourgeist's ability to sponge physical attacks aimed for them.
*Gourgeist lures in Fire attacks for Chandelure, which can also revenge kill threats such as Mega Pinsir and Weavile for Gourgeist.
*Mimikyu handles dark type threats, such as Mega-Sharpedo, Hydreigon, Greninja, and Weavile.
*Marowak-Alola provides Fire and Ground coverage, and along with Thick Club it is able to handle most Poison, Fire, and Ice type walls/threats.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

Ghost
--------

*Shadow Sneak over Seed Bomb/Foul Play can be used if you are lacking a priority move, but priority is usually better run by Mimikyu and Doublade.
*A Colbur Berry could be used to minimize Dark’s influence.
*Protect can be used to scout which moves choice users lock themselves in, and can be used in conjunction with Leech Seed.

Checks and Counters
===================
**Special Attackers** like Charizard-Y, Greninja, Kommo-O, and Nidoking destroy Gourgeist due to its low special bulk.

**Mixed Attackers** such as Mega Garhomp and Kyurem-B are able to hit Gourgeist on its special side and Jellicent on its physical side.

**Toxic** wears Gourgeist down and puts it on a timer.

**Status Blockers** shut Gourgeist down as status is Gourgeist's main way of doing damage. Pokemon behind a Substitute are troublesome for Gourgeist because it forces Gourgeist to depend on its weak attacking moves to break the Substitute.

**Powerful Z-Moves** tend to nuke Gourgeist hard and leave its HP too low to recover.

Sorry about the extra post, I didn't know how to change the title to WIP so I made a new threat, looking forward to delete the old thread. When I found out how to change it to WIP, it was too late.

Hey, the formatting is sort of right, but the content is pretty lackluster. The analysis may be in bullet points, but you must still write complete sentences. Also, please review the resources for the proper formatting of the set and maybe check out an example analysis or two in this forum to see the quality we're looking for. This is very difficult to check as it is right now. If you could polish this up, then tag me and I'll look it over. I don't want to QC Reject this without giving you a fair chance.

Alright Eien I made a few more changes. I just wanted to make as much progress at the one chance I got so I noticed some things that seemed out of place and fixed them. Now it is final that this is ready for QC.

AM QC check. This doesnt count for 1/3, but its still feedback on your work. Implement what you agree with and leave the rest for QC.

*Will-o-Wisp provides utility and cripples physical attackers.

*Seed Bomb helps Ghost deal with Water, Ground and Rock threats. Such as (give examples)
*Foul Play prevents Gourgeist from becoming setup fodder to the likes of Mega Scizor and Dragonite. Neither of those like setting up on gourgesit, especially once burned and leech seedeed. i get where youre going with this, but I think you could stand to clarify this.

Set Details
========

*Having HP and Defense maxed out along with Leftovers allow Gourgiest to do its job as well as it can.
*An Impish nature supports its already huge defense.
*Frisk allows Gourgeist to act as a scout. Elaborate on how it can scout, and what it does (ie finding the foes item)
*4 EVs are put into Special Defense to support its low special defense. You dont need to mention filler evs like this.
* leftovers bullet
Realy minir but bold is better if you run foul play, and thus might be worth the set details mention since foul play is on the set.

Usage Tips
========

*If the opponent lacks a grass type on their team, Gourgeist is free to spam leech seed. What about pokes like Char Y that use that as a free switch-in?
*Pull double switches in order to get offensive pokemon like Gengar in safetly and to retain momentum.
*Always try burning a threat before hitting it with a Foul Play. This isnt really true. Its decent general advice, but not nearly this applicable.
*Pay attention to Synthesis' PP. Try not to use Synthesis in front of Pokemon with Pressure, because Pressure will diminish the move's PP. no it does not. Synthesis doesnt target the foe, and is unnafected. You should conserve pp because gourgeist has only 8, not because of pressure.
*Always burn a physical attacker before Leech Seeding it. Again, too general and not alway true
*Use Leech Seed to bring sashes back, such as Gengar and Golurk. This isnt very relevant, as this requires you to hard switch a sash mon in and hope they click a status move just to get a sash (also pressuposes u run sash on gengar, and thta Golurk somehow only took 1 leech seeds worth of damage.
*Mega Sableye and Jellicent also benefit from Leech Seed as it supports their ability to take hit this idnt really a uage tip

Team Options
========

*As Gourgeist is usually ran on Balanced Ghost, Mega Sableye and Jellicent are great team mates as they form Ghost's defensive core.
*Jellicent appreciates Gourgeist's ability to take His first clause means the opposite of what youre trying to say. Reverse that. Fire, Ice, and special attacks, and in return Gourgeist takes Grass, Electric, and physical attacks for Jellicent. Jellicent also takes specs Keldeo, which 2hkoes ghourgeist
*Mega Sableye bounces back hazards, status, Taunt, and also acts as a nice Dark sponge. *Additionally, Leech Seed supports Sableye's inability to hold Leftovers. How does it support an inability?
And can set rocks

Ghost
--------

*Shadow Sneak over Seed Bomb/Foul Play can be used if you are lacking a priority move, but priority is usually better run by Mimikyu and Doublade.
*Magic Coat is helpful against hazard stacking teams, but mega evolving Sableye early in the game is a better idea. Ont actually run this, you have mega sableye
*Rocky Helmet could be used to punish contact moves, but this greatens the need to spam Synthesis. And most attacks gourgeist switches into (like eq) arent contact
*A Colbur Berry could be used to minimize Dark’s influence.
*Toxic could be used over Will-o-Wisp or Leech Seed, though Jellicent is a better user of it due to the fact that it can stall out entire teams with Acid Armor or Taunt. Why are we running acid armor jellicent?
*Protect can be used to scout choiced moves, as Frisk will determine if the opposing threat is choiced or not. Im iffy on this but if it stays mention it has nice synergy with leech seed.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Mixed Attackers** such as Mega Garhomp and Kyurem-B are able to hit Gourgeist on its special side and Jellicent on its physical side.

**Substitute** attackers tend to beat Gourgeist as status is unable to pass through substitute.

**Toxic** wears Gourgeist down and puts it on a timer.

**Lum Berries** tend to break through Gourgeist’s burns and allow the attacker to hit Gourgeist hard with a boosted attack.

**Taunt** shuts Gourgeist down and beats Gourgeist if it chooses to stay in.

**Powerful Z-Moves** tend to nuke Gourgeist hard and leave its HP too low to recover.
Im not really sure what to say for C&C. Theres justa ton of flaws, with stuff like taunt and sub that can be combined into status blockers while there isnt a spot for SE attacker os special attackers (which is somewhat strange since you have mixed). Most notably, many major threats like Char Y dont even appear here.

AM QC check. This doesnt count for 1/3, but its still feedback on your work. Implement what you agree with and leave the rest for QC.

I honestly cut most of the stuff down to make it more concise, I thought it would be too long. Eien suggested Acid Armor Jellicent on a team I made, so I thought I'd include that. Rocky Helmet could be for moves with low base power, such as Aqua Jet or unboosted Bullet Punches.

I'll write more tommorow. Am I still allowed to make more changes even with the enormous amount of mistakes?

Worried that Eien may shut down my post after one too many given attempts at this analysis.

Absolutely. That only becomes an issue if basic / too many things have to be fixed by the QC team.

[Overview]:
- Should also add Gourgeist-XL being able to check Water teams as well to alleviate pressure put on Jellicent and its resistance to Electric-type attacks also helps take pressure off Alolan Marowak utilizing Lightning Rod.
*Frisk can be used to make predictions later on in the game, as Pokemon like Gengar and Chandelure appreciate the ability to tell whether a Pokemon such as Hydreigon is holding Scarf or Specs.
- Part of this line should be removed (or actually removed entirely) because these examples are not that good. One of them being Chandelure in this sentence. Chandelure cannot do anything to Hydreigon, whether it's Choice Scarf/Specs and dies to it anyway. Another being Gengar can't do anything to Hydreigon either so that's out of the question too.
*However, it stacks a Dark type weakness while also being spike bait.
- Idek what you mean by that. Either elaborate or remove it.
*Though a wall itself, it is easily dealt with by common Pokemon such as Mega Venusaur, Mega Sableye, Toxapex, and much more.
- Just a nitpick here but I would say "It's easily walled by common defensive threats such as Mega Venusaur, Mega Sableye, and Toxapex.
- Talk about Gourgeist-XL being passive. It's lack of offensive presence causes it to be setup fodder to other threats.
- You should also discuss about Gourgeist-XL's weaknesses because there are a handful just like its resistances.
- Should also talk about how Synthesis is tampered with from weather such as sand, hail, and rain, which all three causes Gourgeist-XL difficulty to stay healthy.

[Moves]:
*Seed Bomb helps Ghost deal with Water, Ground and Rock threats, such as Seismitoad, Mamoswine, Tyranitar, and Manaphy.
- Move Manaphy to the front to match listing of types being used as examples.

[Set Details]:
*Having HP and Defense maxed out along with Leftovers allow Gourgiest to do its job as well as it can.
*An Impish nature supports its already huge defense.
- You can merge the Impish nature line with the one above it. "Maximum HP and Defense EVs with an Impish nature allow Gourgiest-XL to easily sponge physical attacks." Or something along those lines. I'd get rid of Leftovers in that line and make it a separate one.
*4 EVs are put into Special Defense to support its low special defense.
- I would just remove this line. 4 EVs don't really do anything for it anyway. It's just adding them so there's no EVs wasted or whatever.
*Leftovers provides passive recovery, as well as cancels out burn, hail, and sandstorm.
- Should say how it helps add recovery in conjunction with Synthesis and Leech Seed in regaining more health.

[Usage Tips]:
- Should discuss more about Leech Seed being used whenever possible. That even goes for a mon that is already seeded in case they would try and switch out. It's good for helping Gourgeist-XL continue taking hits.
- Also Synthesis should be talked about more towards when to use it. It has 8 PP so you should be careful about using it often.
*Pay attention to Synthesis' PP. Try not to use Synthesis in front of Pokemon with Pressure, because Pressure will diminish the move's PP.
- It doesn't.
*If Gourgeist gets badly poisoned, switch it in and out in order to minimize the stacking residual damage.
- I know that there's cases in which this happens to Gourgeist-XL, but it should rather avoid getting poisoned at all costs. It ruins its capability as your physically defensive wall.
*Sack Gourgeist at the right time so Frisk could affect the outcome of the match.
- Huh?
*Hard switch Gourgeist into Pokémon with setup moves in order to burn & Foul Play the Pokemon before it gets out of hand.
- Would be best to give examples of what Gourgeist-XL should switch into.

[Team Options]
*Jellicent appreciates Gourgeist's ability to take Fire, Ice, and special attacks, and in return Gourgeist takes Grass, Electric, and physical attacks for Jellicent.
- I think you mean the other way around.
*Mega Sableye bounces back hazards, status, Taunt, and also acts as a nice Dark sponge.
- Sponge Knock Off users.
*As many offensive Pokemon on Ghost are frail, Gengar, Chandelure, and Mimikyu all appreciate Gourgeist's ability to sponge physical attacks aimed for them.
- Both great special attackers that can apply pressure on defensive threats for Gourgeist-XL.
*Mimikyu handles dark type threats, such as Mega-Sharpedo, Hydreigon, Greninja, and Weavile.
- Take on Dragon-types as well.
*Marowak-Alola provides Fire and Ground coverage, and along with Thick Club it is able to handle most Poison, Fire, and Ice type walls/threats.
- Having the ability to set up Stealth Rock as well.

[Other Options]:
*Magic Coat is helpful against hazard stacking teams, but mega evolving Sableye early in the game is a better idea.
- Remove Magic Coat line. Doesn't need to be there and no use running it when Mega Sableye is basically a mandatory option.
*Toxic could be used over Will-o-Wisp or Leech Seed, though Jellicent is a better user of it due to the fact that it can stall out entire teams with Acid Armor or Taunt.
- Gourgeist-XL wouldn't run Toxic over Leech Seed.
*Protect can be used to scout choiced moves, as Frisk will determine if the opposing threat is choiced or not, and can also be used in conjunction with Leech Seed.
- I have a hard time understanding this because Frisk basically scouts out the item. I see no use for Protect either.

[Checks and Counters]
**Mixed Attackers** such as Mega Garhomp and Kyurem-B are able to hit Gourgeist on its special side and Jellicent on its physical side.
- I'm not inclined to believing that Mixed Attackers are even worth mentioning in the checks and counters section. Why would they need to attack Gourgeist-XL and not use their special attacks???
**Lum Berries** tend to break through Gourgeist’s burns and allow the attacker to hit Gourgeist hard with a boosted attack.
- I would really remove this section honestly.
**Status Blockers** shut Gourgeist down as status is Gourgeist's main way of doing damage.
- This is rather vague, expand more on this.
**Powerful Z-Moves** tend to nuke Gourgeist hard and leave its HP too low to recover.
- Like what?
- Missing Fire-types
- Ice-types
- Dark-types
- Stallbreakers

You're missing a bunch of content and important information on Gourgeist-XL and this really needs major fixing before it hits my standards anyway. I actually had to rush through the last part (checks and counters) since this is very vague and I don't want to spend my night going specific with this. You need to add examples too. Please review everything that I commented above and add them to the analysis.

Work on this!

QC Rejected 1/3

Right when I said I hate doing rejects..

Sorry but this is lacking too much detail. The fact that Misaka's QC is about as long as the analysis itself shows how much work would be needed to QC this. I'm not going to go in too much detail because Misaka basically covered most of it already but I suggest lurking in this forum a bit more and looking at some other analyses before having another shot at this. I don't want to discourage you from writing analyses but make sure you've understood the level of quality we require here and acquired enough metagame knowledge on the Pokemon in question before making another attempt.

QC Rejected 2/3

You're just missing a lot of what's very important for Gourgeist-XL. The Overview and Usage Tips sections really don't show me you understand what Gourgeist-XL is about other than just being a Pokemon that happens to have a lot of Defense. These are the three main problems that I can't overlook:
  1. "Excadrill" doesn't show up even once, and that's pretty unacceptable when Gourgeist-XL's biggest purpose is to counter Choice Band Excadrill.
  2. There's no mention of the other Ghost / Grass type Pokemon and when Gourgeist-XL should or shouldn't be used over them, which is absolutely necessary when Dhelmise is equally viable and has its own uses.
  3. No mention of the potential Fire / Water / Grass core that Gourgeist-XL excels in and what changes should be made to the team to maximize its effectiveness.
These are points that are especially critical to note because they're not immediately obvious to a newer Monotype player. There are more issues, mostly to do with lack of detail, but these three are too important and core to Gourgeist-XL to miss. When combined with just how much Misaka had to point out related to other details, this doesn't cut it, sorry.

I'll have to reject this as well. Locking.
