Defog Kartana is a solid entry hazard remover that can contribute to wallbreaking if used at the right time. With its impressive 181 Attack stat, Kartana is often able to force opposing entry hazard setters such as Hippowdon and Clodsire out and take advantage of this to use Defog. Furthermore, its resistance to Stealth Rock and immunity to Toxic Spikes helps Kartana to switch into entry hazards multiple times. Synthesis provides Kartana with longevity, especially when paired with sun, which allows it to even outheal damage from defensive Landrous-T and Great Tusk's Earthquake. Grassium Z makes up for its loss in power and enables it to pick off weakened walls like Toxapex and Landorus-T, as well as threatening common Stealth Rock users such as Garchomp, Tyranitar, Hippowdon, and Clodsire. Knock Off hits Gholdengo for super effective damage. Sacred Sword can be used as an alternative choice to hit Steel-types like Ferrothorn and Heatran, which Kartana otherwise struggles with. However, missing out on hitting Gholdengo makes it less helpful in the current metagame. 120 Attack EVs allow Kartana to OHKO offensive Garchomp with Bloom Doom. while the HP investment ensures that Kartana survives Choice Scarf Tapu Lele's Psychic even after taking Stealth Rock damage. Mega Charizard Y has great synergy with this set, since it appreciates Kartana's ability to keep the field clear of Stealth Rock whilst also muscling through common special walls in Chansey and Clodsire. In return, Drought boosts Kartana's longevity by increasing the amount of HP Synthesis recovers. Kartana can also switch into rock moves against Mega charizard Y from opposing Garchomp and Choice Scarf Landorus-T, while Mega Charizard Y removes Steel- and Grass-Type walls such as Skarmory, Ferrothorn, and Tangrowth that this set struggles with. Due to its poor Special Defence, Kartana is vulnerable to special attackers that outspeed it, like Tornadus-T and Iron Valiant. This requires it to be paired with a good special wall that can check those threats, such as Tapu Fini or Slowking. Kartana can also struggle with entry hazard setters such as Mega Diancie, Heatran, and Skarmory due to its inability to force them out, so teammates that can limit them such as Slowing and Heatran make for good partners.

However, this is where its great partner Mega Charizard y comes in, as it switches into those walls with ease and OHKO all of them. u alr mentioned this before, no need to do so againDue to its poor spd, kartana is always vulnerable to special attackers that outspeeds it, like Tornadus-t and Iron Valiant. This requires it to be paired with a good special wall that can check those threats such as {insert}. Heatran deserves a special mention as it satisfies both of the criteria, and can set up stealth rock, which would deny the progress made by defog.
