Gran Torino

With the film being released on DVD and Blu-ray, I decided to check out one of the best films of 2008.

The story begin with Walt Kowalski (played by Clint Eastwood), a retired Korean War veteran, recently widowed and is angry at both the world and his family. Thao, a shy teenage from the family next door is pressure by a gang by his cousin to steal Walt's prized possesion, his 1972 Ford Gran Torino. He fails as the conflict was stopped by Walt. Walt eventually befriends Thao and his family and is seen more of a father like figure to Thao.

I really liked this movie as Clint Eastwood manages to act rather well, not to mention the fact he directed well. Although the cast didn't have much big name actor/actresses, I thought it was flawless as there was not a single weak moment in the film. The dramatic twists and turns are enough to keep the audience at the edge of their seats and wondering what will happen next.

Gran Torino, aside from being a top notch film, deeply shows that Clint Eastwood still has it even at the age of 78.

Final Verdict: 9/10

I love how this movie has shown how todays youth act reckless and disrespectful towards older generations who have way more experience and wisdom. Im glad I saw this movie. :)

the brilliance of clint eastwood still being able to be taken seriously as an action hero while playing nothing more than an angry old man is what really sold this film for me

eastwood's acting was great, the movie was really powerful. acting from almost everyone else was noticeably subpar, however. eastwood alone redeems it to the level of a remarkable film, though! possibly my favourite movie from 2008.

also some friends of mine played a drinking game wherein each time clint eastwood grumbles you have to take a shot, and im pretty sure they were wasted after a few minutes.

What surprised me most about this film was how funny it was. I was laughing my head off at all of Walt's little quips and mannerisms. The tongue-in-cheek racism was brilliantly done and Eastwood's delivery was perfect every time. Yet despite that, as Glen pointed out, you could still take the character seriously, as well as the story and its message, which is a testament to just how well crafted the film was overall.

I'm not sure if I'd go as far as saying that it is the best film I have seen this year, but it is definitely the most underrated.

I watched the movie on my trip to Hershey Park, it killed the mood of Hershey Park but it was amazing. I was filled with awe in the end.

My mood was back up on the rollercoasters though.

I had one question though, when the girl came back she was only beaten right? Nothing more?

Movie was pretty good. The advertisements definitely gave it the wrong kind of hype, much like Inglorious Basterds, so I was caught off guard. There is plenty of good racial humor among other things. However, I felt like I knew how the movie was going to play out after the first 15 minutes. Doesn't have much "re-play" value either. still gets 9/10.

Awesome, I thought this movies value would be lost to the masses but it seems like it hasn't. barring some bad child actors, I loved it and bought the DVD.
