Great team that needs to be rated

Hi, I'm CJorex and I'm a practised battler. Personally, I think this is my best team yet, but I would like some other peoples opinions, and some ideas of what can be changed.

Teambuilding Process

I started with the GyaraJolt combunation, because I thought it would be quite effective as these are two very powerful Pokemon, and they have excellent synergy.

I then decided I needed a more versatile Special Attacker. So I chose Latias, because she has nice bulk and can kill a few threats.

Next, I added another Physical Sweeper. I chose Lucario, as he has great synergy with Latias and Gyarados, and can revenge kill with ExtremeSpeed.

I needed a wall and hazard setter, so I chose the best there is, Ferrothorn, as he resists most of my team's weaknesses.

I needed a Pokemon to defend Ferrothorn, so I chose Flash Fire Chandelure, who is immune to both of Ferrothorn's weaknesses

I realised I was without a spinner, so I swapped Ferrothorn for Forretress, who could set up hazards and spin.

Forretress didn't really work for me, so I switched it back for Ferrothorn, and changed Gyarados to Starmie.

Suddenly, my only Physical sweeper was Lucario, who was just not bulky enough, so I exchanged him for Scizor and switched Chandelure for Terrakion.

It was suggested that I should switch Latias for Latios, and it was a good thing I did. I played around with movesets and items a bit, and at the moment it is doing very well.

The Team as it Stands

381.png

Latios @ Choice Specs
Trait: Levitate
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Timid Nature
- Draco Meteor
- Surf
- Hidden Power [Fire]
- Psyshock

Latios is my special Sweeper. He can OHKO just about any non-steel type with Draco Meteor, with other moves for coverage. Surf kills Rock, Ground and Fire types, Hidden Power Fire for pokemon like Ferrothorn and Scizor, the latter of which is OHKO'd, and Psyshock for Blissey. Latios synergises nicely with a lot of my team, especially Scizor, who is 4x resistant to Bug attacks and also resistant to Latios' other weaknesses, and Ferrothorn and Terrakion who do much the same thing. Latios is also resistant to the Fire attacks that kill Scizor and Ferrothorn, and is immune to the Ground attacks Jolteon and Terakkion fear.

212.png

Scizor @ Choice Band
Trait: Technician
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Atk / 8 SDef
Adamant Nature
- U-turn
- Bullet Punch
- Superpower
- Pursuit

Scizor is my main Physical Sweeper and sometimes I also use him as a Revenge Killer. Almost everything is scared of his Bullet Punch- the amount of stuff it can OHKO is AMAZING. U-turn to scout, Superpower to hit Steels. Pursuit catches frail Psychics and Ghosts, like Gengar and Alakazam, on the switch. I chose Sci
zor because he has 9 resistances and only one weakness, which several Pokemon on my team can take care of. As I said before, Scizor has a VERY large amount of resistances, and with his nice bulk, he can tank a few hits that would probably wipe out my other team members. The most important of these is his resistances to all of Latios' weaknesses, while also resisting most of Starmie's and one of Terrakion's.
135.png

Jolteon @ Expert Belt

Trait: Volt Absorb
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Timid Nature
- Thunderbolt
- Hidden Power [Ice]
- Substitute
- Baton Pass

Jolteon is my second Special Attacker, and can also Baton Pass Subs. Expert Belt is to fake a Choice item, as Jolteon Choice-locked onto an Electric attack is an easy switch-in for Gliscor, Landorus and Thundurus-T. While they switch in I can use Substitute, and hopefully Baton Pass out. Jolteon's main purpose is to lure out Ground-types, Volt Absorb and Lightningrod Pokemon for my other Pokemon to KO. It can also take Electric attacks aimed at my other Pokemon, especially Starmie.

121.png

Starmie @ Life Orb
Trait: Natural Cure
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Timid Nature
- Hydro Pump
- Ice Beam
- Recover
- Rapid Spin

Starmie is the Spinner on my team. It can spin away Hazards, Recover off the damage, and do some nice amounts of damage with Hydro Pump and Ice Beam. These two moves allow it to easily a lot of threats to my team. Starmie is pretty frail, so I generally don't use it to sponge attacks. All of its five weaknesses are countered by other Pokemon on my team- Scizor resists Grass, Bug, Ghost and Dark, Jolteon absorbs Electric and Ferrothorn also resists all those types, bar Bug.

598.png

Ferrothorn @ Shed Shell
Trait: Iron Barbs
EVs: 252 HP / 88 Def / 168 SDef
Relaxed Nature
- Spikes
- Stealth Rock
- Power Whip
- Gyro Ball

Ferrothorn is the only defensive Pokemon on my team, but he is the only one needed. With all his resistances and just two weaknesses, he can take alot of hits, and with his decent Attack and powerful STABs, he has actually nabbed quite a few KOs for me. Ferrothorn's main purpose is, however, to come in and tank almost all of my team's weaknesses, which he does excellently. He isn't the best defensive Pokemon in the game for nothing!

639.png

Terrakion @ Choice Scarf
Trait: Justified
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd
Jolly Nature
- Close Combat
- Stone Edge
- X-Scissor
- Sacred Sword

Terakkion is my Revenge Killer, and with a Choice Scarf almost nothing can outspeed him. It's no wonder that he is widely regarded as one of the most dangerous threats in the metagame- he can easily sweep entire teams with his STABs, which is saying something. With Justified, I usually try and come in on a Dark-type attack, and then I can sweep from there.

Hi, CJorex! Nice team. I find your team is weak to entry hazards in general, such as Stealth Rock. Since Jolteon has to switch-in a lot, it will constantly lose health due to Stealth Rock. You also have two team members who are weak to Stealth Rock (Gyarados and Chandelure), which limits their number of switch-ins and makes them less effective offensive threats. I also find your team is weak to Terrakion, as it wrecks Chandelure and Gyarados with Stone Edge, while taking out Ferrothorn, Lucario and Jolteon with a powerful Close Combat. If Latias goes down, dealing with Terrakion becomes pretty tough. To deal with these problems, I find that a single change would help, which is to replace Ferrothorn by a Physically Defensive Forretress. Forretress is a great wall that lets you deal with Terrakion, and it also provides Rapid Spin support in addition to providing entry hazards like Ferrothorn was previously providing. Forretress synergizes well with Latias, as it can switch-into Dragon and Ice-type moves aimed towards Latias, while Latias can come in on Fire-type attacks aimed towards Forretress. Rapid Spin support is invaluable to your teammates, allowing your sweepers to be even more effective. Stealth Rock is an obligatory hazard every team possesses, as it helps deal with Volcarona and Dragonite, and it turns 2HKOs in OHKOs. Gyro Ball hits faster opponents, like Dragon Dancers, as well as Terrakion. Volt Switch allows you to escape from Magnezone's Magnet Pull, as well as occasionally providing switch initiative for your team, which adds pressure on your opponents' shoulders. Leftovers grants recovery, while Sturdy prevents Forretress from being OHKO'd at full health. The set can be found below. Cool team, and good luck!

205.gif

Forretress @ Leftovers | Sturdy
Relaxed Nature | 252 HP / 176 Def / 80 SpD
Stealth Rock | Rapid Spin | Gyro Ball | Volt Switch

Note: Use 0 Speed IVs for maximum Gyro Ball power.

Hi

Stall teams in general seem to be giving you a lot of problems. You are running without a spinner, and entry hazards are Stall's main source of damage, furthermore, most of your pokemon are either weak to Stealth Rock or vulnerable Spikes. Your team is also easier to wall for a stall team, as you do not have anything with great power and coverage, and most of your pokemon carry Life Orb which puts their lifespan on a timer, which is really shortened without any Rapid Spin support. Offensive teams shouldn't be a problem though as your team is very powerful. A first thing you could try is swapping your Gyarados for an offensive Rapid Spin Starmie with Recover, as it fits your team's playstyle perfectly because it is so powerful and fast and it is very, very difficult to block its Rapid Spin because of its great coverage and ability to 2HKO most spinblockers, meaning Stall's precious entry hazards will be dispatched fairly quickly. Recover is great because it allows Starmie to stick around longer while taking damage from stuff like Ferrothorn's Iron Barbs and hazard damage, otherwise it would be fairly easy to wear it down.

If you're finding yourself struggling against Thundurus-T because of its Volt Absorb ability negating Jolteon's Volt Switch, you should perhaps tweak Jolteon's moveset a bit. Jolteon is a great lure to most Thundurus-T expecting you to use an Electric move and you can use that to your advantage. Switching it to an Expert Belt version with Substitute and Baton Pass instead of the classic Choice Specs set would help you a lot, as Thundurus will be switching in while you set up your Substitute, allowing you to Baton Pass to a team mate in safety or simply hit it hard with Hidden Power Ice.

Last thing, you should probably consider swapping Leech Seed for Stealth Rock on Ferrothorn. Stealth Rock is the best entry hazard available as it will hit every team as nothing is immune to it, while Flying types and pokemon with Levitate are not affected by Spikes at all, and the damage SR causes on the long run will just be invaluable for you. To me it will be much more useful than Leech Seed on your Ferrothorn considering you have a lot of offensive power.

Sets:
Starmie @ Life Orb
Natural Cure
Timid
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
-Hydro Pump
-Thunderbolt
-Recover
-Rapid Spin

Jolteon @ Expert Belt
Volt Absorb
Timid
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
-Thunderbolt
-Hidden Power Ice
-Substitute
-Baton Pass

Good luck!

Thanks, I'll try them. I mainly chose Gyarados to form the GyaraJolt combination with Jolteon, but I think Starmie will work. Although I sort of need Gyarados for coverage with E-quake and stone edge, and without him my only physical attacker will be Lucario. Expert Belt on Jolteon will probably work, though.

First of all, Leftovers on Jolteon, period. I'm a huge Jolteon fan (yes, it is my fav pokemon), and I spend a lot of time using it in my team, with that set, and what I have learned there are few items that can "work" on Jolteon, Leftovers is the best. It recovers the half HP that you lost in a Sub, and works awesome with that Volt-Switch trapped CS Rotom-W.

Ice Beam instead of Thunderbolt on Starmie. You have one of the fastest Electric-types pokemons on your team (Jolteon) and you are needing a powerful Ice-type move, so why don't use it on Starmie?

Shed Shell on Ferro. You just cannot keep using Ferrothorn with that set. You are not using a rain team, so your Ferro becomes so susceptible to HP Fire Magnezone. Even if you turn your Ferro set to a Specially Defense one, Magnezone cans OHKO your Ferrothorn, so Buldooze isn't an option.

Specs Latios instead CM Latias. You have a great Dragon/Ice type moves coverage, so why don't use a "hit and run" strategy on a Specs Latios? Draco Meteor, then run. Specs Latios is one of the most feared pokes out there. (Use the standard Specs set, but with Psyshock instead Trick for those annoying Blisseys)

Choice Band on Scizor. That's your solution to Gengar and Alakazam. With a STAB Bullet Punch you get an OHKO on both, and, well, CB Scizor is such a bitch, isn't it? (That's why I have him in my team lol)

Choice Scarf on Terrakion. CS Terrakion is the best revenge killer, so you will run a dual revenge killing system: Specs Latios for the slow ones, CS Terrakion for those boosted or CS users.

For that ground weakness change EVs on Ferrothorn to be more defensive than specially defensive, because you don't have to

...Well, that's why I have to say about youre team, with that changes it becomes pretty offensive. See ya!

Thanks DaveScottMustaine, I will try those out. However, the reason I run Expert Belt on Jolteon is to fake a choice set and lure in Pokemon like Thundurus-T.

I would definitely like to make Latios Expert Belt. It allows you to stay in and not be set up for your opponent. You run a pretty offensive team, so giving your opponent a free turn is not the best idea. Your team struggles with Scizor and making it expert belt will help with that weakness.

Additionally if you are running Shed shell on Ferrothorn, please consider leech seed over one of your attacking moves. It's great recovery for magnezone if they wanna come in on the switch and you can switch out to jolteon to take their hp ice. You can set up spikes first, so that magnezone will ALWAYS be taking some sort of damage, while you will stay relatively safe with jolteon taking on magnezone.

Lastly, I would try out Leftovers > Life Orb on starmie. Recover and Rapid spin don't go very well with Life orb. Unless you change the moveset, Leftovers seems superior.

Contrary to what Chimpakt has mentioned, I think you should keep Life Orb on Starmie. Since you have Recover, you have less to worry about when it comes to residual damage. I would also recommend the use of Expert Belt over Choice Specs on Latios since it is such a great lure for Scizor that are looking for a free kill. This is a great team, and to be honest, I cannot suggest any new members, seeing how anything I suggest could mess up your team's synergy and efficiency. Nice team, and good luck!

Thanks, I'll try Expert Belt on Latios. It does annoy me when Latios is locked onto Draco Meteor and my opponent brings in a steel type, and Heatran is also annoying when it comes in on HP Fire.

Just had time to glance over this, but shed shell on ferro in most cases is a waste of a moveslot, leftovers is much more beneficial for recovery and simply put decent predictions allow your ferrothorn to not be trapped by a magnezone.
