Thanks to its Grassy Surge ability and lack of better Terrain inducers, Grookey fits the unique niche of setting Grassy Terrain to support its team. Under Grassy Terrain, Grassy Glide is a strong priority move which enables Grookey to threaten faster threats such as Stonjourner, Galarian Mr. Mime, and Raichu. U-turn lets Grookey safely bring teammates that take advantage of Grassy Terrain, but also weakens Grass resists such as Ivysaur, Bellossom, and Shiinotic. Knock Off cripples common defensive threats to Grassy Terrain teams such as Vullaby, Gloom, and Vespiquen. Wood Hammer is a powerful attack, which can be used to let Grookey faint from recoil, enabling a free switch-in for Grassy Terrain abusers. Due to Grookey's low Attack stat, Choice Band is the preferred item in order to be less passive and be able to revenge kill faster threats such as Mr. Mime, Persian, and Raichu after Stealth Rock. However, Terrain Extender is an option which gives Grookey's teammates more turns to abuse Grassy Terrain at the cost of making Grookey far more passive. Hammer Arm is an option that hits Klang super effectively, but Grookey prefers to use other moves and hardly has room for it.

Bulky setup sweepers such as Gothitelle and Bellossom appreciate Grookey's Terrain support to abuse Grassy Seed. Moreover, strong physical Grass-type Pokemon that learn Grassy Glide such as Gourgeist-L and Trevenant are great partners that appreciates Grassy Terrain support, since it gives them a very strong priority move in Grassy Glide while also boosting their Grass-type STAB moves. They also form a strong Grass spam core with Grookey, able to weaken Grass-type checks for each other. Since Grassy Terrain abusers are weak to Ice-, Flying- and Fire-types Pokemon such as Stonjourner, Wartortle, and Carkol are potent teammates that also enjoy the extra recovery and weakened Earthquake from Grassy Terrain. Moreover, Grookey and Grassy Glide abusers struggle with Grass-type resistant walls such as defensive Gourgeist-L, Gloom, and Shiinotic, therefore Pokemon that can take advantage of them such as special Silvally-Ice, Ivysaur, and Vespiquen fit well with Grookey. Furthermore, Klang threatens Grassy Terrain teams, since it can setup on Grookey and other Grass-type attackers and can break through Grassy Seed users, therefore Grassy Terrain teams need counterplay to Klang such as Lampent, Machoke, and Shell Smash Wartortle.

Thanks to its Grassy Surge ability and lack of other better terrain inducers, Grookey fits the unique niche of setting Grassy Terrain to support its team (Grassy Terrain as a move still exists in ZU, so it's not impossible to have a gterrain team without grooky / with grooky as the only setter; this new language makes room for that). Knock Off cripples common defensive threats to Grassy Terrain team such as Vullaby, Gloom, and Vespiquen. Wood Hammer is a powerful attack which can be used to let Grookey faint from recoil, enabling a free teammate to abuse from the remaining turns of Grassy Terrain. Due to Grookey's low Attack stat, Choice Band is the prefered preferred item in order it not to be to passive and easily abused be able to revenge kill...(the not as passive part already implies that it's not as easily abused. Instead, an example of what CB allows Grookey to specifically revenge kill or break would be better; Raichu and Persian are 1HKOd by Grassy Glide after Stealth Rock, for example. It also contracts the opportunity cost of the next point). However, Terrain Extander Extender is an option which gives Grookey's teammates more turns to abuse Grassy Terrain at the cost of making Grookey far more passive.

Calm Mind Swoobat is Grookey's partner of choice since the Grassy Terrain activates its Grassy Seed. Moreover strong physical Grass-type that learn Grassy Glide such as Gourgeist-Large and Trevenant are great partners that appreciates Grassy Terrain support since it gives them a stronger priority move in Grassy Glide while also boosting their Grass-type STAB moves. They also form a strong Grass spam core with Grookey, able to weaken Grass-type checks for each other. Since Grassy Terrain abusers are weak to Ice and Fire, checks to these types such as Stonjourner, Wartortle, and Carkol are potent teammates that also enjoy the extra recovery and weakened Earthquake attempts from Grassy Terrain (a small bonus but significant nonetheless). Moreover, they also struggle with Zweilous and Vullaby, therefore teammates that deal with them such as Mr. Mime, Silvally-Ice, and Raichu are appreciated (See below). Grookey and Grassy Glide users are walled by Grass-type resistant Pokemon such as Gloom, defensive Gourgeist-Large, and Shiinotic, and that's why Pokemon that can take advantage of them such as special Silvally-Ice, Ivysaur, and Farfetch'd make fit well with Grookey. (physical IceVally may have issues with Wisp / sap, whereas special is a much more relevant breaker to specify here. Also, fetch isn't the most relevant, and something like Vespiquen could be a more accurate example here if you agree) (see below)

QC 1/2! A threat for Grassy Terrain teams is Klang, as it can counter sweep the Grass spam users and frail Swoobat if it's not already setup, and also enjoys the passive recovery and Earthquake nerf. A question I have is why does the "they also struggle with Zweilous and Vullaby" sentence have a " walled by Grass-type resistant Pokemon such as Gloom, Defensive Gourgeist-Large, and Shiinotic" sentence right after it? Aren't they saying the same thing? I'd try to reorganize the ending to both include Klang as a check to watch out for, and give some clarity to the checks-and-teammates structure that's here.

Feel free to add or ignore any suggestions :)

ADD REMOVE COMMENT You mention "Terrain Extender", so I wasn't sure if adding it to the item part would be needed.
