(WIP Analysis)

[Overview]
- Has an excellent speed tier, only outsped by Raticate and Luvdisc. It also speed ties with Plusle, Minun, and Haunter.
- Has a way better physical movepool than special movepool. This is a bummer since its attack stat is fairly mediocre.
- Unlike most other Grass-types, doesn't have to rely on Hidden Power Grass for STAB.
- Generally outperformed by other Grass-types, mainly Tangela and Bellossom.
- Fairly decent check to a lot of the Water-types in the tier.
- Very frail

[SET]
name: Special Attacker
move 1: Leaf Blade
move 2: ThunderPunch
move 3: Crunch
move 4: Hidden Power Fire
item: Leftovers
nature: Timid
evs: 252 SpA / 252 Spe / 4 HP

[SET COMMENTS]
- Timid nature is used to speed tie with other Timid 95 base Speed Pokemon in the tier.
- Leaf Blade is the main STAB and it can do a critical hit decently often, which can screw up a lot of the Water-types in the tier.
- ThunderPunch is used to hit Flying types.
- Crunch is used to hit Haunter and Chimecho.
- Hidden Power Fire strikes Bug-types, other Grass-types, as well as Mawile.

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]
- Modest may be used for more power, though Grovyle prefers speed tying with Plusle, Minun, and Haunter.
- Crunch can be replaced with Dragonbreath, though Dragonbreath provides little use outside of neutral coverage and the paralysis being a nice feature.
- Quick Attack with a Rash nature can be used, though since Grovyle is frail, lowering his defenses further isn't recommended.
- Grovyle likes having a special wall partner such as Lickitung to take care of Special attackers that can KO Grovyle.
- Grovyle may be paired up with Magcargo or other Fire-types to have a better chance at beating Bug-types, Opposing Grass-types and Mawile.
- Graveler is a pretty good partner for Grovyle since Grovyle can beat the Ground and Water types Graveler hates, while Graveler can hit Bug, Fire and Poison types.

[Other Options]
- Endure plus Petaya or Liechi berry.
- SubPunch
- HP Ice
- Substitute + Endeavor
- Dragonbreath
- Iron Tail
- Sunny Day + SolarBeam
- Pursuit
- Quick Attack
- A Choice Band set can be used for surprise factor, though is generally outclassed by Raticate.

[Checks and Counters]
- Haunter
- Shelgon if not using Dragonbreath.
- Special walls; Wigglytuff, Lickitung, Kecleon
- Fire-types; Flareon, Magcargo and Charmeleon
- Flying-types
- Easily revenged by Hitmonchan
- Poison-types; Swalot, Roselia, and Venomoth in particular.

Please keep in mind that this is my first Gen 3 NU analysis. (I'm likely to do another NFE next) I may get some things incorrect, and I apologize for that. Basically what I plan to do is make analysises (I know that's not a word) to NFE that are listed on the unofficial viability rankings.

There's literally no point to a Choice Band set, remove it. Sure it's fast but if I'm going to use a fast, frail CBer I'm going to go with Raticate who at least gets STAB and will hit nearly three times as hard with a Guts boost lol. The surprise value doesn't mean much when you're not acquiring any "surprise" KOes.

The only niche Grovyle has is that it's extremely fast as a Grass-type while retaining a decent amount of power, meaning it doesn't need any set-up to become dangerous unlike Bellossom and Tangela, which lets it check every Water-type in the metagame and have a chance at beating Plusle and the birds.
