Welcome to the second edition GSC Grand Slam! We are back for another season of thrilling GSC competition spread across five lower tier single elimination tournaments.

The format consists of five separate tournaments: The GSC Ubers Open, The GSC UU Open, The GSC NU Open, The GSC PU Open, and the GSC ZU Open. Depending on your performance in each Open, you will be awarded points. The point system is the same as the one used in Smogon Tour, Smogon Classic and previous years of Smogon Grand Slam (see this for further explanation). When all the Opens have been finished, the eight players with the most points will qualify for playoffs. There, the battlers will duke it out in a single elimination best-of-five series until there is one GSC Grand Slam champion.

Signups for each Open will be posted after the first round of the previous Open is posted. Here is the list of the five Opens and the dates each signups will be posted:
If a tier shift happens to occur during a round, it will not be taken into account until the following round. Please also keep in mind that this tournament is entirely GSC and does not include metagames from future generations.

Replays are now required for all matches.

Be sure to join the GSC Discord if you have any questions or wish to ask a host about a decision. The spreadsheet will be run by vani, and I'll have a link to it in this post once it's ready.

The GSC Grand Slam regular season has concluded and it is now time for playoffs. Huge thank you to our dedicated hosts AV11, cherryb0ng, Akeras, a fairy, and vani!

Without further ado, here are our participants!
1. dawnbuster - 19pts. (80.00%)
2. MrSoup - 14pts. (75.00%)
3. BeeOrSomething - 13pts. (84.62%)
4. zben - 13pts. (68.75%)
5. BigFatMantis - 12pts. (68.75%)
6. SANKE CARP - 10pts. (66.67%)
7. Alice Kazumi - 9pts. (64.29%)
8. Rubyblood - 8pts. (58.33%)

Honorable mention to Isa, who vacated their 8th seed spot with 8 points and a 100% win rate.

Quarterfinals
1. dawnbuster vs. 8. Rubyblood
2. MrSoup vs. 7. Alice Kazumi
3. BeeOrSomething vs. 6. SANKE CARP
4. zben vs. 5. BigFatMantis
All sets are best of five, defined as first to three wins. The higher seed will pick the first tier to be played (out of Ubers, UU, NU, PU, ZU) and the loser of each match will then pick which tier the next match will be played in. In the event of a tie, the match will be replayed in the same tier. Replays are mandatory.

This week's deadline is Sunday, June 23rd at 11:59 PM GMT-4

Good luck everybody!

  1. Winningest lower tiers vs SPL champion Dawn vs Rubyblood
Dawn being the lower tiers personified and the hardest working gsctuber doesn't surprise me to see him as first seed. But he is to lower tiers what Rubyblood is to OU, so I don't think you can find a more striking counterpart to Dawn than this year's SPL champion. A man known for his insanely good results with prep time, I honestly couldn't picture a more fitting opponent for the first seed. This will be the most interesting bout of them all and I give the edge to dawn but you can't count ruby out.
  2. The Overachiever vs the new challenger Mrsoup vs Alice Kazumi
Mrsoup is the likeliest to win in this matchup. Considering the amount of accolades he has gathered, it really speaks volumes to the depths of his understanding of GSC, which is far greater than mine or that of A.K.
  3. Clash between two strong up and comers Beeorsomething vs SANKECARP
this prediction seems quite easy for me, despite the fact that we are comparing two champions and two players I respect. Sanke Karp is showing a lot of skills as a player in the field of GSC which may or may not be new for him, but aside from what I can assume must be his best tiers in PU and UU based on previous tours, I think Bee would be able to give him a run for his money in more than two or three matchups.
  4. Classic matchup Zben vs BFM,
the two strongest players not to have won one of the tournaments, with a dead even win ratio of 68.75,%, and competing in the lower tiers of gsc for what feels like a good three years now, these two have made names for themselves for their unique brand of play. It's so hard to say which one will come out on top because they regularly meet each other in a number of playoffs and know each other's style. My only question is whether Zben shoot himself in the foot by building a team so left field it's actually right.

Semifinals
1. dawnbuster vs. 5. BigFatMantis
2. MrSoup vs 6. SANKE CARP
All sets are best of five, defined as first to three wins. Game Predicts

Ubers: dawnbuster

dawn did really well in Ubers open and continues to do well in UPL, sanke fell out in round 1

UU: dawnbuster

pretty unmatched team choices wrt opponent and consistently good gameplay, while sanke may have gaps here and there

NU: SANKE CARP

feel like sanke has been trying a good bit and dawn I just feel like hasn't been as sharp in NU (though I don't blame because there's not really been much with the tier since NUCL/ALTPL ended)

PU: SANKE CARP

he won PU open, and he played some in ALTPL (+ dawn struggled a lot in PU in ALTPL)

ZU: SANKE CARP

This could really go either way, will probably come down to team choice and key turns though I do think sanke's team choice has been a lot more homogenous but I've liked his gameplay a little more in the tier and he generally seems more comfortable

Overall: SANKE CARP 55:45 dawnbuster, could totally go either way and it might actually just be 50:50
