Smeargle @ Miracle Berry
Ability: No Ability
- Spore
- Agility
- Baton Pass
- Substitute / Spikes

A more recent development in GSC OU offense, Agility + Baton Pass Smeargle uniquely supports slower wallbreakers. Giving Marowak and Belly Drum Snorlax a Speed boost fixes their most prominent flaw and lets them unleash their monstrous power on the whole tier. Unlike most other Smeargle variants, this set can be used effectively outside of the lead slot, as mid-game support, using Spore to incapacitate a foe and set up Agility for Baton Pass. Its last move can vary, with Substitute scouting for Explosion or status while giving teammates safer setup when passed. Spikes instead offers utility, freeing up a teamslot usually occupied by Cloyster, and Smeargle threatens every common spinner with Spore. Miracle Berry both keeps Smeargle useable against faster sleepers, like Nidoking and Jynx, and gives it more Baton Pass opportunities versus status users generally. However, Smeargle has terrible bulk, and Sleep Talk attackers like Snorlax and Zapdos can crush it even after Spore. Also, after landing Spore, an opposing phazer can easily shut down Baton Pass strategies.

In this SPL replay, choolio uses Smeargle to set up with a Speed-boosted Marowak, claiming the Raikou sacrifice and opening doors for his Zapdos later in the game. https://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/smogtours-gen2ou-604744

A more recent development in GSC OU offense, Agility + Baton Pass Smeargle offers unique support in enabling uniquely supports slower wallbreakers. The most popular abusers are Marowak and Belly Drum Snorlax for good reason: giving them Giving Marowak and Belly Drum Snorlax a Speed boost fixes their most prominent flaw and lets them unleash their monstrous power on the whole tier at +2 Speed. Unlike most other Smeargle variants, this set can be used effectively outside of the lead slot, as mid-game support, using Spore to incapacitate a foe and gain an opportunity to Baton Pass an Agility boost. Its last move can vary, offering utility in the form of Spikes while freeing up a team slot usually occupied by Cloyster and threatening every common Rapid Spinner with Spore, or Substitute, which can help scout Explosion or status and can be passed to a teammate for safer setup. Smeargle uses Miracle Berry to help deny status from the likes of faster sleepers like Nidoking and Jynx, achieving two purposes in preventing it from being useless while statused and giving it more opportunities to Baton Pass versus status users. However, it's worth noting that Smeargle has a few exploitable flaws, making it somewhat unreliable. Its terrible bulk means that it can't contest powerful attackers like Snorlax and Zapdos, especially if they absorb its Sleep and land a hit using Sleep Talk. After Sporing an opponent, its Baton Pass chains are easily shut down by an opposing phazer. set up Agility for Baton Pass.
